I was looking forward to eating here, but what a let down. This restaurant is clearly resting on its rating. I’ve found a nice restaurant has servers that either are very nice and accommodating or act like they are doing you a favor by taking...your money. Our was the latter. I ordered the pork loin. $28 and they overcooked it. Imagine eating a steak that was cooked well done and you chew and chew and chew - that was my meal. My date got the swordfish which was the size of a large scallop. $148 bill for two uninspired, poorly cooked meals. Just overall so disappointing. I’ve had my experience here, and it will be my last.More

Arrogant Hen of Wood is the kind of place that thinks they are cutting edge cuisine, but if you had your grandmother try it she’d slap the back of your head. Understandably the menu was limited coming out of the pandemic, but it was so...boring we considered leaving before we sat down. They murdered the pork, 5 minutes overcooked, but the spaetzle was tasty. The swordfish had a solid topping but was also a bit over, the size of a sand dollar and was served with nearly raw kale. That was the entire dish lol, for that $$. A clear money maker dish for Hen. Mint zucchini was the most interesting dish, a side for $8. Overall pretty uninspired and a menu from the 90s. Go elsewhere.More

Comfortably social distanced. Delicious food, attentive staff. Highly recommend. Would go back in a heartbeat. I am a vegetarian that is gluten free and they were able to accommodate without trouble. My husband has no restriction and enjoyed his crispy rabbit and Hen of the...woods appetizer. Great wine/drink list.More

My husband and I recently dined at this trendy restaurant. Overall, the food was excellent. The salad with the root vegetables was excellent and we loved the mushroom toast. We had the short ribs which are offered only as a shared entree. I generally love...short ribs, but these were not as good as I've had other places. While short ribs generally have a high fat content, the first one I tried was all fat and almost no meat. I also didn't love the flavor combination. The biggest disappointment, though, was the limited selection of wines by the glass. My husband had to drive quite a distance, so we did not want an entire bottle, and given their menu, there should be more nice reds by the glass - I want to say there were only 5 or 6 to choose from, and some of those were Hen of the Wood's own label. The wines by the bottle were limited, as well. I feel they would benefit from providing more options. Our server was friendly and competent.More

This was my first time visiting Burlington and I'd heard so many good things about this restaurant. It definitely lived up to the hype! The mushroom toast was amazing, and we loved the rabbit pasta dish as well. Our waitress was very helpful and recommended...a fantastic white wine to pair with my meal. We had the polenta and broccolini sides, both of which were great. We dined here in August 2020, so it was great to see the restaurant putting an extra emphasis on COVID-19 precautions. We ate outside and we were at least 10-12 feet from the other patrons. The servers wore masks and took a lot of care to make us feel safe and comfortable. All in all, a wonderful experience!More

I was extremely disappointed by my birthday dinner at HOW. I made reservations weeks in advance and was very excited for our dinner, expecting delicious food and at least a decent experience. Unfortunately, what we got was a mediocre meal and a less than average...experience. The meal started on a positive note with delicious crackers and cheese and good, albeit expensive, rolls ($7 for 4). The courses that followed were good, but nothing special. Short ribs and duck were well cooked, but the flavors were off. Cod cheeks were greasy and had a rather overpowering sauce. Chocolate pots de creme were very good, but I make them better at home. Needless to say, I was less than impressed. As for the service, we ate outside and could barely see our meal. Although it was night, the umbrellas were left up, obscuring the light from the street lamps. I asked for a candle, but the waiter told my husband he could turn the umbrella light on. My husband turned on the light, but it did nothing. I still had a difficult time seeing my food. We have eaten outside all summer, and this was the worst experience we had in terms of lighting. Finally, diners should be aware that the restaurant requires diners to wear a mask at all times that a waiter is at the table. I clearly understand the need for safety as I wear my mask all the time I can’t social distance and I even refuse to eat inside a restaurant. However, it’s very difficult to eat a meal or drink a glass of wine when the waiter is coming back-and-forth to the table and we have to put masks on and take them off each time. At one point, I had to put the mask on when I had food in my mouth. I wanted to tell the waiter to stay away while we ate, but I was just too annoyed at that point. All in all, I will never return to this restaurant. There are much better options in Burlington and the surrounding area.More

We have travelled extensively and often select restaurants etc based upon reviews. This place defies good reviews. Our server, Adam was one of the most unfriendly, arrogant and incapable we have ever experienced. The food was mediocre, expensive and small potions. The menu was limited and...unimpressive unless you want Vermont cheese. You pay extra for bread. Any kind of potato was not available with steak. Burlington has many fine restaurants . This is not one of them. Stay away!More

They seem to have COVID-19 all figured out at this popular Burlington restaurant. We felt safe as it was our first time dining out in almost 5 months. The menu was abbreviated from what they use to offer, but the selections were all superb. Great...attentive service and no issues with food. We will be back!More

Absolutely spectacular!!! My 17 year old and I both thought the service, atmosphere and food were some of the best we’ve ever experienced (and we travel the world a lot!). The commitment to supporting local food sources while being incredibly inventive was memorable, excellent and...delicious. Don’t miss this one!More

We arrived a bit early for our reservation. We were greeted warmly and directed to the bar. What was nice was we were told in advance that someone would come by and take our order. I thought this was great as sometimes being directed to...a bar you fend for yourself. Our table was ready before we got our drinks but the drinks found us no problem. The food was delicious and pricey. We had some food delivered to our table that wasn’t ours and sat at our table for a few minutes. I am glad I went but don’t feel the need to rush back. If I did I think the bar seating would be fun to watch the chefs do their thing. This isn’t a large restaurant and is a bit noisy. It has a great atmosphere that would draw me back.More

This is a high end restaurant and I would doubt if dogs, other than assist dogs, would be permitted. At least, I'd like to hope that that's the case. There are some places where it's OK for dogs to be - this just isnt one... More

Yes. I believe so. The party next to me ordered a vegetarian plate and I overheard that they thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

I don't think so given that reservations are hard to come by. To be honest, I'm not sure
