Wow! This place has fresh, quality baguettes like none other! Crunchy, fresh. This is truly a bakery, not just a storefront.

I was visiting helath-conscious relatives and disparing of what we would be eating when they suggested going to August First. The atmosphere is informal andsimple, with outdoor seating available. I was quite impressed with their array of salads (full dinner plate size), protein bowls and sandwiches. The combinations are wonderful, including some usual (the Vermonter) with others that are more... More

We LOVE this bakery, they have the best French bread we've come across outside of Paris. We were in Burlington for 2 nights recently, found this place the first morning (thanks to TripAdvisor!) and liked it so much we chose to return there for our second morning (and there are so many yummy places to choose from!). We loaded up... More

A nice local bakery but the breakfast sandwiches and baked goods were disappointing. I asked for “whole grain” expecting bread but it was a pretty large whole grain roll … much more bread than I wanted. I ordered egg, cheese and bacon and that was completely overpowered by all the bread. I tried “gutting” the roll, but the cheese had... More

We were mother and daughter (older teen) looking for a quick bite. This locale is a perfect place for excellent bread, sandwiches, soups, and local fare. It's just so genuine, including an occasional cob web (but not dirty), real people, really good food and an nice atmosphere. There are a few seats outside with shade umbrellas. Happy that we tried... If you are like me tired of eating hotel breakfast, then try this place for a pleasant surprise. What constitutes a good breakfast freshly prepared on site? How about a hot coffee, a bacon/egg/cheese sandwich(and many more choices on the menu), plus extremely friendly service staff. It is all here at the August First in Burlington Vermont.

All types of breads and sandwiches. Had sausage egg and cheese on a baguette. Delicious!! Family enjoy their meals as well. Decent price clean and the coffee was good to. Able to sit inside and out. They even made some yogurt for the baby!!

Strong characterful coffee and a savoury egg and sausage sandwich. Help from the staff to charge my mobile. And finally a toasted, straw coloured, pop of a macaroon which was memorably delicious. I recommend!

We felt lucky to find this spot, away from the church street scene. Fresh backed goodies, fresh prepared egg sandwiches. Inviting atmosphere - Wi-Fi free! Books are available to read and/or buy. Eat inside or out. This is not a place to pop in if you are in a hurry, Very relaxing.

This place was right down the street from our hotel. We wanted to eat here and it did not disappoint! You walk in and check the Chalk Board and order. I had a great egg sandwich on Brioche and my girlfriend had the granola with warm milk. Coffee is self serve which I like. Of course we took some baked... More
