The Publyk House has a wonderful dining terrance with beautiful views. The restaurant has a local “favorite spot” vibe. The service is excellent! Staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The wine list is very good and affordable. The meals are of generous portions. We...saw that all patrons were taking leftovers with them when leaving, as we also did. The menu has nice variety. The Publyk House is not high cuisine, but serves food that is very satisfying and flavorful. My companion and I would return again, when In the area.More

We walked through the hedge from our hotel next door for dinner. We had driven all the way from Cape Cod so too tired to look elsewhere for a meal. We were not disappointed. The Baked Cod was so good I'm still daydreaming about it....My companion had the prime rib which was the special of the night, and he also enjoyed his selection. The wine cellar was pretty empty that night according to our waitress but she was still able to find us a pinot that was to our liking. We sat outside so we could enjoy the views of the Green Mountains around us, and watch the sunset. It was lovely all the way around.More

We were a little disappointed that they no longer served calf's liver, featured on their on-line menu. But the substitute meatloaf was delicious. Pretty much no-frills food, cooked and served well. Some tables have great views; others don't. Best to reserve pretty far in advance....My NY steak was beautifully grilled, but the piece of meat itself isn't going to make Peter Luger nervous, a bit tough. Hey, it's Bennington and not Brooklyn, and the Publyck House is just fine.More

We enjoyed lovely meals, on two separate evenings, at the Publix House. Food was great, service was great, and views really nice. We sat outside both nights. The warm bread with maple butter is addictive. Full bar with lots of special drinks, and a decent...enough wine list. Vermont cheddar mac n' cheese makes a tasty appetizer. One night we had a reservation, and the other night we did not, but it was hopping both nights so recommend calling ahead and make sure they can accommodate you.More

Quick summary: very good food based on traditional American fare. Gorgeous view from the deck. While tables are well-spaced, COVID practices could be improved -- shareable salad bar comes with your meal; no staff wear masks. Could use a cheese plate to showcase Vermont cheeses....Inside dining room and tavern area, too. We stopped by this place on the recommendation of our hotel. The food is preparation is excellent, centered on traditional American fare. The mains come with a garden salad, delish homemade bread, and appropriate side, and priced mostly in the $20's, including steak dishes, but some into the $30's. (When was the last time you saw a turkey dinner on the menu?) There is a variety of meats, fish, pasta dishes. Most apps are in the $teens, an include crabcakes, calamari, etc. Desserts are mostly $9, including a delish-sounding blueberry and nutmeg cheese cake, flourless chocolate cake, and key lime pie. Full bar, with creative cocktails, craft beer, and wines by the glass (most$8-10) or bottle. My husband and I had items from the specials of the day - "Queen" size prime rib with a choice of sides (I had the excellent mashed potatoes) for $25.95, and my husband had the shrimp and pasta dish (a number of nice, big shrimp in the dish - $21.95.) All was fresh and tasty. We were pretty full, although the dessert menu looks very attractive. What was missing - a good cheese plate. With all the great cheeses from Vermont, this would have been something to make room for. IMHO, it would also be a great addition to the pub menu to share with drinks. Due diligence: we were rather put off at the lack of COVID safety practices, but we decided to stay anyway (we are vaccinated.). The tables are pretty well-spaced, and we dined outside with a gorgeous view of the Green Mountains (and fresh air.) However, the salad that comes with the meal is serve-yourself at the salad bar, and no one seemed to clean the utensils that everyone used between diners. No staff were wearing masks. Menus were reused between guests. I assume that they practice reasonably good behaviors in other ways, e.g. with handwashing, but this place feels like pre-COVID times for most precautions. If they improve the COVID precautions, this restaurant would rate five dots. To be honest, we might visit again if in the area again, but probably not until the COVID danger subsides more.More

It had been awhile since our last visit to The Publyk House, but we were there a few nights ago and again enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. It was a beautiful evening, and we sat on the outside deck overlooking the mountains and the...Bennington Monument. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. The excellent salad bar is back again, and the loaf of whole wheat bread with maple butter was tasty as usual. We all enjoyed our meals and look forward to returning again when we are in the area.More

This was my husband and I's 1st time at a restaurant since pre-covid and our 2nd time here and we were very pleased! We were able to get a reservation on the patio for 7 when calling at 530. The ambiance was just what we...were looking for. The sunset and view was the perfect background for our 5 year wedding anniversary. The bread was warm and the accompanying maple butter was tasty. We didn't buy any to take home but I read on their site that you can. My favorite part of the meal was the lobster bisque. I consider myself a soup connoisseur and this was soooo good that I'm still thinking about it. We shared the calamari (chipotle aioli for the win!) and we both had a watermelon mule. It was tasty but not sure I'd pay $12 per drink again. I'd say it felt more like $8-9. For entrees, I had the king prime rib and my husband had the fisherman's platter. The portions were huge so we ate till we couldn't move and still brought leftovers home! Very happy with our visit. The service was great, the view unbeatable and the food very well done. We will be back for special occasion/date nights!More

We came here to celebrate our son's birthday and it was a great choice. Outside seating was full so we didn't get to look at the view as much though. We did have an excellent meal and good service. They have a nice selection of...food and specials. They did run out of the Prime Rib just as we were ordering though. Reservations were required because of capacity controls. We hope to return and enjoy the outside seating.More
