We were just passing through on overnite, and did not expect a small town to have such a lovely restaurant w/very good food. We ate on the porch on a beautiful evening (lovely garden outside), and Maria and her staff were friendly, attentive and efficient....and happily allowed our Golden Retriever to sit under our table. Delightful summer salads (large portion) w/peaches/berries & greens. My husband enjoyed the smoked ribs platter/board while I enjoyed the seared scallops. As we sipped a glass of wine before dinner, Maria also brought us a small appetizer plate of some fabulous local cheese called (?) Quarck from 5 Generations farm....unusual & very delicious. Hope we get to try the desserts next time!

Culinary gem in the NEK
Parson’s Dinner House, located in the old parsonage in the town of Barton, is a must visit in the NEK in Vermont, or if you are heading through the area on your way to Canada. The food, the service, and the hospitality are exceptional. Prices are manageable depending on what you order, but the portions are very generous. The Chef’s complimentary “amuses- bouches” made up of homemade cornbread and tortilla chips with a local cheese dip and homemade salsa verde gets your taste buds going and you feel immediately at home. The menu changes seasonally, but if the lobster bisque is on the menu it is a must have with its generous servings of lobster. The blanquette de veau on the appetizer menu is a delight. The menu is quite extensive with something for everybody. The entree options are wide ranging, all deliciously prepared and makes it difficult to pick one. For the finale, a pot de crème, profiteroles or crème brûlée are all prepared in house and are mouth-wateringly delicious. Overall Parsons is a fantastic dinner experience. We have been multiple times and now that they are open again after the devastating flood damages from early summer, we will be coming back frequently.

Amazing! Restaurant is located in a cute old farmhouse. The wait staff gave us just the right amount of attention. The pre meal warm cornbread, goat cheese, chips and salsa were perfect. The lobster bisque was mind blowing, and the fruit and arugula salad was delicious. They have a great drink menu too. A must visit if you’re in the area. Will definitely be going back!!

You must eat here. It is wonderful! The menu is unique and delicious. The service is friendly and they are taking pandemic safety precautions. They also have some outdoor seating. We had the wild mushroom appetizer, fish n chips, salmon entre, cheesecake, and strawberry shortcake. Give this place a try!

We have had two wonderful meals at Parsons. The owner is a delight and it comes through in the atmosphere and food.
The smoked trout was light and delicious and the corn soup is rich and worthy.
If visiting from New York, you will not be disappointed.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in the NEK of VT. The husband / wife team have created an upscale casual dining experience with attentive service; fresh, locally sourced, prepared to order unique dishes in a comfortable, welcoming environment. Standard cocktails ( and a nightly special concoction)are offered along with a solid wine list and decent house wines by the glass. Maria (owner/pastry chef) creates delicious desserts. We had the maple pie- fabulous! My favorite aspect of this restaurant is that they are not focused on “turning tables “ during a dinner service. Each drink/ dish comes out in its own time. The result is an unhurried, relaxed, civilized dining experience - like in Europe - an anomaly in the US! Definitely make a reservation as they book up especially on the weekend.

A happenstance brought me to this quaint little house/restaurant. From entrance to exit, this was delightfully unexpected sophistication for a small town in Vermont. The country pate was to rave about to those like me who make it the Julia Childs way. And the cream of celery soup with balanced herbs and sweet potato richness was over the top. Kudos to the chef and his wife Maria. Fantastic.

First time in this delightful spot. Seated in a timely manner and served drinks upon arrival. Everything sounded so tempting so between three of us we tried five appetizers. The two men raved about the pork belly mac 'n cheese whilst my favourite was the wild mushrooms and also the calamari and and also Caesar salad. Entrees were outstanding (sticky chicken , veal and colossal shrimp) Attentive and personable service made for a memorable evening. A five star experience and worth a two and a half hour drive!

This is a wonderful find in the NEK. The decor is simple, soft jazz plays in the background, and the farm-to-table food is outstanding. Save room for dessert. The owner makes them herself from ingredients from her own yard. I am trying to figure out when I can get there again and I live in New Jersey!

This was a wonderful experience. We were fortunate to be served by the incomparable owner and Pastry Chef, Maria. She was awesome. It began with the cornbread plate (blueberry) and tortilla chips and salsa. Never had cornbread so moist and delicious. We shared the Calimari…the aioli was to die for. Lobster bisque was excellent. Hubby had the Caesar salad which was also excellent (I had to taste). We both had the scallops and the “rose” cheesecake. Still can’t figure how they got the cheesecake inside. From beginning to end….just excellent. Met the chef…great man and excellent chef. Three rooms for dining and decorated with taste and in keeping with the age of the building. Very impressed. Made more reservations and can’t wait to go back.

We had the opportunity to have date night after way too long… we choose a new wonderful addition in fine dining to Orleans county and the Northeast Kingdom. The ambiance, fabulous selection of appetizers, entrees and wine were absolutely divine along with the presentation and maple pie. Thank you for a great evening we highly recommend to others and look forward to our next visit.

Beautiful setting, great food. Cuisine includes seared scallops, Arctic Char, Vermont Sticky chicken. All expertly prepared by Executive Chef Steve Vazzano. Desserts by Pastry Chef Maria Hill are stunningly beautiful. Servers are gracious. When in Vermont’s NE Kingdom, make the trip to Barton for an evening with friends you won’t soon forget.
