Ate here while visiting friends. Really fantastic food and service. Great beer and cider selection. I can't believe how good this is considering how out of the way it is. Well worth looking for it if you are anywhere close.

Yes, number one of one in Barnard, but I'd say number one in Barnard and Woodstock and beyond. Our excellent, professional, and helpful server let us enjoy drinks and appetizers in the garden (sublime buttermilk onion rings, cod and potato croquettes, tomato bisque, rhubarb soup), and then move inside for one of the tastiest brisket preparations I've had. Truly local,... More

Went with friends, has gnocci which was delicious, others had soup, which they loved. Our waitress was great and the drinks were yummy. The spot is beautiful.

What a building, beautiful wood beamed dining room for the formal, cool tavern for casual. We ate out-side, where our waitress was very attentive, but also unobtrusive. The food was great, and wonderfully different from our usual urban fare. A little pricy, but worth the trip.

Fabulous food and ambience. A bit off the beaten track between Barnard and Woodstock but worth every effort to get there. Menu features locally grown/raised food and the beer menu is superb. The staff was awesome...knowledgable about food, flora fauna and history.

We love this place and eat at Max's Tavern often. Everything one orders there is great. We don't eat meat but do eat fish. Lately there has been a real lack of fish or vegetarian options. It is beginning to impact whether we go. Hope they add a couple of non-meat options.

We had two meals at the Barnard Inn and Restaurant and both were excellent. The decor in the Tavern was rustic with a lovely view of the gardens. The menu is anything but rustic. Lots of local items with creative preparation.

This was a beautiful, quaint restaurant close to the Maple Leaf Inn. We had the Sloppy June which was delicious. The menu was somewhat limited and a touch pricey but overall it was a very good dining experience. I would go back there again.

A somewhat limited menu with excellent unique choices. My meal was excellent. I had the wiener schnitzel made with chicken. It was an extremely generous portion. Nice casual environment. Excellent service. A little remote and my GPS had trouble providing the routing. Quite a variety of beers offered. People next to us had ordered a spinach salad. It looked amazing.

Great Food, Friendly Staff. Not a large dinner room, which made it more personal and romantic. Hot Cider Rum...Mmmmm
