Went here hoping for a light dinner and drinks and was a little disappointed that there weren't too many affordable options - entrees ranged from $20-$30 or small appetizers for $8 - $15. Found my vodka soda drink at $11 to be pricey too.

We stopped in for a quick light dinner on a Saturday night. We only needed a light meal. Opted for tomato bisque, Max's salad and the cheese plate. All were good. Tomato bisque excellent and rich for a winter night. Friendly and quick service. Nice and warm ambiance.

We just had the Inn put on a holiday dinner for our business. The price turned out to be $200 per person for an adequate meal. The food was adequate in quality but much too much was prepared and none was offered for take-home.

Very cozy, popular inn. We were lucky to get a table. The service was excellent. If you need to wait to for your table, there is a fire pit outside.

Very small tavern; food was good but overpriced; what was strange about it is the fact that they did not serve burgers and their idea of the viener schnitzel is a chicken cutlet instead of traditional veal cutlet. It was served with a small scoop of mash potatoes and a few string beans. It was about $22-23. Expensive, but the... More

Absolutely go to the Barnard Inn Restaurant, but avoid the Formal Dining Room. From what we could tell by reading reviews and perusing the inn's website, we thought Max's Tavern would be more like a sports bar. Reservations at the dining room required a $20pp non-refundable deposit and there is a fixed-price three-course menu. We didn't realize that the same... More

Ate a quiet dinner late on a Sunday night at Max's Tavern (I don't think they are usually open Sunday evenings but had special hours for the busy October season). Max's Tavern was rustic and quaint, and the food, while homey was of the highest quality ingredients, techniques, and flavors. I have major appreciation for the amazing gluten free options... More

We had a meal at the Tavern which was quite good. We enjoyed the atmosphere there, even if it all was a bit perfunctory and seemed like they might be wanting us moved through the system quickly. It's a lovely and lively place and not to be confused with the main restaurant. But, we'd go back again!

This restaurant has been recommended to us by several of the locals. Definitely worth trying despite the drive. Recommend eating in the tavern versus the formal dining room. The tavern is more of a fun atmosphere. Same menu as formal dining room. Food was delicious. Loved their roasted tomato soup. Staff was friendly too.
