We arrived from out of town around 4:15 PM hoping for an early dinner, however, the lunch menu ONLY is available up to 5:00 PM. The chef makes no exceptions and will not accept any dinner orders prior to 5:00 PM. So we made due and ordered a few limited items (soup & salad) since we were hungry, but didn't want sandwiches/wraps (I don't care for their lunch menu, but the dinner menu looked good). Then we were informed that we couldn't get liquor at an upscale restaurant ~ very disappointing! It must be impossible to get a liquor license in Utah ~ I'm surprised coffee isn't banned as well! The best part of our limited 'lunch' was the beautiful design of the restaurant, large floor to ceiling windows, and AMAZING views of St. George with the mountains in the distance. We would be interested in lodging at the newly renovated 'Inn on the Cliff' (next door) on our next trip and dining @ Cliffside during their strictly designated dinner hours in order to enjoy the views again. Unfortunately, Cliffside doesn't serve breakfast. This is THE place to dine outside on the porch when the weather permits (even with a marginal lunch menu & no cocktails) as the location is perfect. The prices are the highest in St. George, but the views are worth it...

Hello WorldSprinter18, Thank you for your Review of Cliffside Restaurant! We appreciate your input and sharing your experience with us and others! We are sorry about the wait you had for the dinner menu. Unfortunately, due to the switch from our lunch to dinner menu, our kitchen needs time to prepare the fresh food for the evening! We are sorry that you had to wait and hope you understand our limits. We take great pride in providing great service, a eloquent atmosphere, and jaw-dropping views. It sounds like you just got that experience, which is great. Our Hotel, Inn on the Cliff, offers great prices and the same views! We would love to have you dine with us again and even stay at our Inn on the Cliff! Jeremy, Assistant Manager

My husband and I were traveling to Idaho Falls from Southern California and needed a reasonably priced hotel stopover for the 12-hour journey. We're delighted to have stumbled upon this hilltop gem. The room was upscale with wonderful balcony sunrise and sunset views. We were tired and the delivered dinner from the onsite restaurant was superb. My husband ordered the fried eggplant (vegan) and I ordered the spinach salad with the chicken/mashed sweet potato entree. Delicious! And the breakfast delivered to the room was appreciated before we hit the road. Staff was very accomodating. We look forward to staying again. Thanks everyone.

We were staying at the inn adjacent to the restaurant and it was suggested that we make reservations since it was a weekend night. We arrived about five minutes early and did have to wait, but they were very busy that evening. I think they did a good job to keep distancing. The wait staff all wore masks, some of the hostess staff, not all. There are tables with enough distancing to make it comfortable and most with views of the city and surrounding mountains. Our waiter was Ben, who was very efficient and especially since it was a busy night. However, we not given a list of the nightly specials. It was something I overheard the waitress recite to the table next to us. And although the service was quick and the food was quite tasty, thought the prices a bit high for the entrees.

Front desk staff barely cordial. Waited 15 min for a window table requested at reservation. Waited 15 min for Olivia asst mgr our server to appear at our table. She was friendly but failed to inform us there was a charge to sample a wine I was unfamiliar with. Waited another 15 min for our drink order to be delivered. When she brought the bread 15 min later she apologized stating there was a problem with our salad order and they didn't arrive until 15 min after that. After salads completed, entrees took another 15 minutes to be delivered. Sent the fish back to be cooked more but it was returned unchanged. Gave up at that point. Made the mistake of asking for the desert menu which only delayed getting the check which if course took forever to run the credit card. Caesar salad and watermelon feta salad were good as was hubby's salmon. View at sunset is spectacular. What was asst mgr doing waiting tables? Clearly they were very short staffed.

Thank you for your review of Cliffside Restaurant and I'm sad to see your previous review has been replaced with just two stars. We pride ourselves on having great chef inspired meals with wonderful service to match and I'm sorry we didn't meet your expectations this time, but I'd like to address your concerns. I've pulled up your reservation summary to make sure I have the most accurate details. Although every guest requests to be seated at a window when they make reservations, our window tables are always based on availability. When you arrived at 6:00pm for your reservation, all of our window tables were occupied with other guests. You informed the hostesses you wanted to be put on the wait-list for a window table who had you seated within 10 minutes at a window table in the center of our restaurant. I'm glad you got to enjoy the beautiful St George sunset from that table. Because all of our food is made fresh for every guest, it does take longer than some faster food type restaurants. Our average guests dining experience from start to finish is anywhere from 1.5 - 2 hours. I see from your reservation details you were finished in the middle of that time frame. I apologize that you didn't get the enough attention from your server and I've discussed this with her to make sure she is more attentive. Though she is an assistant manager during the day shift, she is part of our service staff in the evenings. In Utah, by law, any liquor consumed must be paid for which is why there was a $2 charge for tasting wine. I've talked with your server to make sure that going forward the price is known when a guest orders a wine tasting. I hope you chose to dine again another time to make up for the experience you had. We'd hate to lose a valued guest.

All I can say is the chef is ambitious and unsuccessful at it. The fish tacos were tasteless. The sofrito the wahoo was marinated in would have been better if they bought it bottled from Smith’s just down the road. The “black bean and corn salsa” was basically corn and black beans mixed together without anything else. That's salsa? The NY Strip was cooked properly but not butchered properly. I had to spit out gristle, twice. The blue cheese steak fries had a few clumps of blue cheese. EH. Overcooked green beans too. The waiter was friendly but incompetent and this comes from someone who worked his way through grad school as a waiter. I ordered a doppelbock lager. They were out and he proposed a porter? Lager vs Ale? My wife’s beer had to wait for me to select a new drink which took way too much time. The main courses arrived while we were only halfway through our salads. As a waiter, we called this the bum’s rush. Yet there were empty tables so need to get us out of there fast. Rule one as a waiter, especially with a steak, gives the customer a chance to take a bite and then check on it. It took a while to get him to get some added salsa to the horrid tacos. He was not around. They were kind enough to not charge us. Other tables got bread and butter. We didn't and weren't even offered any. He offered us the check but never asked if we wanted dessert. I have a personal rule when traveling which we violated by eating here. Never ever eat at a restaurant that has a view of anything famous or special. We are here because we were lazy, stayed at the hotel, which we loved and the restaurant had good reviews. This restaurant has a phenomenal view of the mountains and crapy food.

We brought gourmet friends from Miami, Florida, to Cliffside for a nice dinner with a view of our new hometown and were horribly embarrassed. We were all tired from hiking all day, but the snooty young receptionist refused to seat us until our appointed reservation time even though most of the tables were empty. The food was not good; our guests ordered the "12-hour spare ribs" and found them to be undercooked, tough and chewy. The poorly trained waiters had to be asked to remove old appetizer plates filled with shrimp shells, reached across our guests to pick up and serve plates, and had no idea how to pour and serve wine. The wine list was iinsulting. Wines that wou;dn't qualify for a fraternity party were marked up 500%; the only passable wines, which would sell at $15/bottle retail even in Utah, were priced at more than $100/bottle. Obviously, this place relies on its view and caters to Mormons who are unaccustomed to better service and food, much less decent wine with their dinner. For a nice meal with a view, it's worth driving to Springdale rather than being insulted at Cliffside.

The address listed here is wrong; it is 511 S Tech Ridge Dr St George, not 511 S Airport Rd? Odd! Second, you would think the view would be great but mediocre at best...overlooking many buildings way below and any mountains or canyons were very distant. Our server was wonderful; she was organized and attentive! But none of that mattered if the food were great. Soup, salads and entrees for two people were just under $100. No appetizers, no dessert, no drinks other than water. We eat out alot and that was steep, certainly for the quality of the food. The clam chowder was cool at best; the butternut squash soup was so thick you could eat it with a fork. The Almond Crusted Idaho Trout was so totally smothered in sweet cranberry mostarda that it drowned out the wonderful flavor of the trout. When I scraped off the cranberry sauce, there was a huge puddle of the liquid under the trout. It made it horrendously sweet. I was told I could have the buerre blanc on the side but not the cranberry mostada....crazy because it ruined the dish! If it had been more of a dipping sauce it might have worked. The Four Cheese & Pear Pasta was decent but again, wicked sweet. Also, when you serve a wedge salad with Romaine, you leave the customer with a plate full of limp dark green tops. I know it sounds and looks cool but not so great eating! Glad to leave!

Stopped here in June and had a great lunch. We usually kind of avoid hotel restaurants, but I am glad we didn't this time. Our family of 5 all tried different plates and everything was delicious, burgers, fish, and chicken. I would say it is a legit restaurant with a chef that cares that is connected to a hotel and not a hotel restaurant. The dining room has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the town and surrounding scenery from its location at the top of the hill (bluff? mesa?? IDK). There is also an outdoor patio to choose from. Our server was great and ended up recommending a drive through Snow Canyon State Park, a really nice spot that we would have otherwise overlooked.

I had the berry salad & coconut crusted shrimp; my husband had the burger. They were both excellent! The service from Mano was impeccable; the chef even offered us a free dessert because he thought he'd gotten something wrong with my husband's order. There was nothing wrong with it, but we appreciated the gesture. The view was also great & we loved the lighting, ambiance, & background music.

Our dinner experience left a lot to be desired. The view was the best part of the experience. The calamari was dry and tasteless. My poorly trimmed NY strip steak was almost cold long with all the unnecessary stuff piled on it and the soggy cold fries. Our server took it back to be refired but it did not help. The chicken was just ok and at least was hot when served. The wine was actually warm and the weak attempt to cool it off by the server was inept. She even brought out glasses of ice so we could pour our wine in them. Who does that? We chose this restaurant based on reviews so will go with an “off night” as it appears many people have had a better experience.

We were glad to be able to get out. We had not been to the Cliffside before. We went there for lunch. All Covid 19 guidelines were adhered to. We went for an early lunch. There were only 3 other tables of guests. We were seated by the window. Magnificent view, great atmosphere Our orders were taken in a timely manner, but then it kind of went down hill. The coconut shrimp were over cooked and close to being burned but they served them to us anyway. It took 45 minutes for us to get my wife’s Cobb Salad and my Fish Tacos. I had to get waiters attention to get drink refilled. The food was good but service fell short. We will go back, the view was worth it. Just hoping that starting back up they were having some hiccups. I still tipped well, glad people are going back to work.

Do not judge this book by its cover. Approaching this restaurant all you see is a plain motel, but boy are we glad we got out to eat. The food and view can’t be beat. We got the coconut shrimp with a delectable orange dip and a chefs salad that the chef split for us to look just like the bigger version. Very nice. Good social distancing and everyone was wearing masks.

I held a birthday party for hubby and friend, so not being from Utah we thought we'd get there early and get a drink at the bar. There was NO bar, they served only beer and wine at the table that must have food ordered to be served either item. The high school girls up front were immature and the three of them chatting, but we finally got seated and ordered wine and beer. Our reservations were for half hour later so appreciated being able to sit down. Waiter ignored us until I asked him why he was ignoring us, then he got attentive. No problems the rest of the evening. Food came and was decent but a tad overpriced for everything being alacarte. The view is excellent and everyone had a nice evening which is priceless .

This restaurant has a lovely view and judging by the reviews the food is rated highly. I noticed there was no background music for ambiance which I found odd and made the room sound more like a cafeteria than a dining room. Good for the over 40+ crowd. Would not recommend if you are looking for cocktails, or dining with friends or even younger couples. If felt dated and stuffy, stuck in the past. If you are from out of town and looking for a restaurant that is trendy with good food. This is not the place. If you are taking your parents/grandparents out for a dinner, they will be impressed.

We have eaten at the Cliffside Restaurant several times. We tried a variety of dishes this time and were thrilled at the freshness and flavors. Portions are very generous. We enjoyed tomato soup, shrimp special , garlic fries, and watermelon with feta salad. Delicious.
