We LOVE the food at El Farol and have been going there for over 30 years!
This is the typical small family, hole in the wall Mexican Food restaurant. And we LOVE it!
Its simple, not fancy.
And the food is simply good.
This place IS under rated.
Don't let the strip mall drive you away.

My wife had wanted to try this place out since she used to go here with here family when she was younger. So one night when we couldn't figure out where we wanted to go for dinner I headed over to there place. It was a week night and it was not crowded at all so I wondered if I had made a good choice. Neither of us were real hungry so I decided on the shrimp tacos and my wife chose the fish tacos. Well I have to tell you the food was great. I loved the shrimp tacos. and I will go again. They were grilled shrimp not fried, which is my preference. Simple but fantastic. My wife felt the same for the fish tacos. The price was very reasonable as well. Now the draw back, like I said it was pretty empty, but we were eating our dinner, and someone was mopping the floors of the restaurant, and they were mopping with pine-sol. Don't get me wrong i use it too, but it is not what you want to be smelling when you are eating dinner.

If you're looking for a fancy dining room or fancy surroundings this is not the place for you if you're looking for good quality Mexican food you need to stop at El Ferrell's. The build your own selections with a couple of sides makes for a great inexpensive meal

Excellent food! Very friendly hostess and waitstaff. Food came out quickly and was hot. My husband had cheese enchilada plate with beef taco and loved both. I had the carnitas taco dinner with blue corn tortillas (you have to request blue corn tortillas- no extra charge). The tortillas were especially good and the whole meal was simple food that was perfectly tasty! We’d definitely return.

We ate here for the first and last time today for a late lunch. They were not crowded and seated us immediately.
Service: this was prompt, courteous and always helpful. This is their high mark.
Prices: Reasonable and moderate to low for most items. $
Food: various in the level of the quality; the chicken fajitas were excellent, crispy and well prepared as were the vegetables. The Tacos and Enchiladas, however, were poor to mediocre in preparation and flavor. My chicken enchiladas were still cold on the inside from the refrigeration and had no special flavor or sauce inside with the meat and flavor relying wholly on the sauce and cheese topping on the outside of the enchilada; and the sauce was nothing special and neither was the cheese. Also the chips served with the meal were tasty and nicely heated but the salsa was poor in quality and flavor and at best was watery and too mild; and I like and want mild salsa. As the food is the best reason to visit a restaurant I would only give this a 2 to 2.5 on a scale of 5.

Many years ago I found El Farol. It’s become a mainstay PERFECT MEXICAN restaurant for me. HIGHLY recommend you try this. There is one catch. You will never want to go anywhere else for Mexican food again. They can’t be beat!

I haven't been to EL Farol for quite sometime and was looking forward to a nice lunch with friends...Service was good...however I ordered the half &half bean/cheese plate for an appetizer...when it was delivered it was lukewarm...the cheese chips were almost impossible to pickup without losing the cheese...making it difficult for sharing without having to help each other...not very appetizing when too many fingers on the food !!
My quesadillas were made like folded tacos rather than the usual flat style cut in pie shapes ?? The other food served was mediocre. Making this visit a bit disappointing.
It will be a while before I give it a try again.

Our lunch group of about 12 people left relatively uninspired by the food and service at El Farol. Although not overly crowded for a weekday lunch hour, service was slow -- it took over 20 minutes to take our orders, then 20 more for food to arrive. Constant reminders to bring chips and salsa, drink refills, and even utensils were heeded, but not promptly. The server seemed inexperienced, at best. Lunch was good. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal, which was delivered on piping hot plates. That was good. But the meals were just average Mexican/American fare -- so average (not bad, just not outstanding), that there is little else to say. I would eat there again if in the area with an appetite for Mexican, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

They have some unique dishes that can't be made at home. Cheese enchiladas have a great mole sauce, the soft tortilla ground beef tacos are tasty, and the chicken chimchangas are very good. We usually get the bean dip chips appetizer, which is very good. The rice is also good. The tortilla soup is bland, and I have poured the salsa into it. For the most part the food is consistent, but we've been a few times when the cook clearly didn't follow the recipe. I drive 30 minutes to eat here once a month.

When I lived in SLC this is the only place hubby and I would go for Mexican food........we probably went at least 2 times a month, if not more. We never had to wait to get seated and they bring you "free" chips and salsa. The Chimichanga is to die for and almost every other thing is good too. The only bad thing is that they don't have a liquor license, so no Margaritas (bummer)

My apologies to El Farol. I hate to write a bad review but I must do so here. We ate here in May 2015 and had a terrible experience. The service was good and the prices were fine but the food was absolutely terrible. We have been talking about that meal for about two weeks now because it was so bad. The owners/cooks really need to spend some time throwing out their current recipes and start over from scratch. I really hope they can get their act together and come up with a better product. Their food is just plain bad. Sorry.

This is a good, cheap, fast lunch. It is pretty mild for mexican food. The service was very good and friendly.
