I always look forward to Hell's Backbone Grill after spending time in the canyons. It's near Boulder, Utah (population 222) and is the only bar in town, I think. The menu changes frequently, and the organic food is sourced locally. It's casual yet elegant, with amazing food and great service. A really eclectic menu. You can stay at the nearby... More

This restaurant was definitely one of our favorites during our vacations in September. It is amazing the quality of the ingredients, the freshness, the combination of flavors and colors. It was a surprise for us to find it here. No offense as in NYC many times we feel as 3rd category and robbed when it comes to freshness and quality... More

We came across this lovely restaurant while on a 3 week road trip. We stopped in for breakfast and didn't want to leave! The place is quaint and cozy and the service was excellent. We enjoyed eggs, french toast and coffee--all delicious. The surroundings are beautiful and so peaceful...a perfect place for a relaxing meal. We will make sure to... More

You will be hard pressed to find a more inventive or better quality meal in this part of Utah. I have read other reviews where people complained about the service and menu options, but really, people! The wait staff are local residents who are working a part time job in the middle of nowhere (albeit a very beautiful nowhere)... We... More

Thoughtful, delicious food, much of it locally grown. What a change to have such amazing meals. Worth the extra effort. Staff superb and attentive.

Read about Hell's Backbone so drove back into cell range to call ahead for a reservation. Server was very friendly and gave us insightful suggestions into both the menu and our slot canyon hiking plans. I had a cold so they sized up the soup for my entree - delicious. Had fried green tomatoes for the first time - amazing!... More

Imagine one of the finest meals in the middle of nowhere. That's exactly what we experienced in Boulder, Utah a couple of weeks ago. At our table was a large, well-prepared pork chop, a home-baked meatloaf, and a pumpkin-habanero jenchilada (yes! that's how they spelled it). Very nice! I recommend reservations because they were very busy. People know about this... More

Had dinner there one night when on a hiking tour. Good food, and friendly and helpful staff. I was with a group, and we all had different entrees ... there were no complaints, just "boy, that was really good"

Finding a culinary delight in small town Utah with a nice alcohol selection is a miracle. This place is a miracle. Great service, fantastic well prepared food with a seasonal farm to table selection. It is expensive but well worth it.

If you live anywhere in the Intermountain west and have discussed the great scenery of Highway 12 through the middle of southern Utah, you've heard about Hell's Backbone Grill in Boulder Utah. We finally made it there and it totally lived up to its reputation. Yea, I'm comparing it to some of the best dinners we had in Paris last... More
