Eat here only if you have plenty of time

If you have 2 hours for supper, consider this restaurant. The food is decent but the service is excruciatingly slow. Also, the wide open floor plan makes for a noisy meal in a non-private setting. In a hurry find another place!

Small town BIG service great food...

Stopped by for breakfast and did we have a breakfast. I had chicken fried steak and eggs and beans and hash browns. Wife had Huevos Rancheros and it was well presented and was DELICIOUS. Our waitress took care of us and service was excellent. Loved it will stop every time I am in Zavala.

Nobody gives you a menu when you arrive

After 5 minutes seated at table no one gave me a menu so I left. I know they saw me as someone said go ahead and sit down . Poor service. Frustrating.

SLOW SLOW SLOW !!!

SLOW SLOW SLOW !!!! Wednesday evening, We had a group of 10, called ahead! Only a few tables occupied. Waitress was adequate, but took almost 1 1/2 hrs to get our food!!!!!! When it came, it was good, but definitely NOT worth the wait!!!!

How do you screw up steak???

Who thought the concept of chicken fried steak with cheese and gravy was a good idea? At least this place’s version is definitely not a good idea! We came here after people in Laredo raved about the chicken fried steaks. My then fiance and I went and of course, it was nasty. Two bites later, I asked for a to go box and so did my partner, who had spat out his steak after one bite. The waitress asked us why we wanted to get one so quick- did we not like the food? I lied and said we had to leave. We boxed the food up and paid - and left the to go boxes on the table. Service was okay but definitely not worth the drive to Zapata! My husband and I then went to Dairy Queen to get some better food. That, too, was a disappointment. All in all, this place is the pits (no pun intended). I mean, if you can’t get the steak right, then what hope is there for the rest of the food???

Should not be your first choice

I brought a group of clients here and came away very disappointed. The restaurant looksattractive from the outside. Inside it is a large open area that resonates the noise. The food is at best mediocre. The steaks were tough!! Shoe leather comes to mind. Can't imagine you can't get a good steak in Texas. A sea food dish was mostly "krab"- not the real article. There was octopus in the dish that could not be chewed. Although the wait staff was substantial the wait for food was excessively long even though the restaurant was not crowded.

Don’t order the steak

This restaurant advertises itself as a steakhouse but has only a handful of steak options on the menu. Two of our group order the rib steak and both of them found it to be inedible—tough and mostly fat. Also the service was slow and poor. Soup course was never cleared from the table. Side dishes were missing. Not a good experience.

Don't go here ever unless you're a local

If I could give a zero review I would. Waitress got drink order wrong for starters. We waited over an hour for our order which never did come. We watched people who came in after us get served, still we waited. Asked someone where our waitress was, still nothing. Finally tracked her down, she said "it's coming", it didn't. We ended up leaving, paid full price for order we never received. What we did eat- chips, salsa & margarita we're bland. I hesitate to suggest the lack of service was because we were obviously out of Towners but it appears to be so.

Great Food

The food was good and hot when we got it. They put plenty on your plate. Even with quite a few people, the wait time wasn't that bad. Prices are good.

Appalling service, didn't have the opportunity to try the food!

Ahhh... where to start? Walked in around 7 pm on a Friday. Restaurant was quite busy and so we waited 10 minutes to be seated. Waited another 10 minutes to be addressed. Ordered 2 margaritas. They arrived a half hour later. We ordered food at the same time. 45 minutes later still no sign of food. Flagged a server as ours seemed to have disappeared. She was good enough to check only to find out that they hadn't even begun to prepare our food in the kitchen. No apologies except to say they had a big table come in and were busy with them. By now our margaritas were done so we simply told them to cancel the food order and we'd leave. Went to the front desk (empty as usual) to pay for our 2 drinks. Check came to $17 & change.We were flabbergasted at the price for 2 very mediocre drinks. We asked to speak with a manager about our experience. Informed that none was working tonight. Then asked to speak with a supervisor... none was working tonight either. Evidently the staff were running the place alone without any supervision. Hard to believe that a restaurant of this size had no supervisory staff on duty. We will NEVER go here again... sad really, as we frequent Zapata often to go fishing on Falcon Lake.

Yummy!

A group of 12 of us went for dinner. We were seated in a large room in the back, which was perfect so we could visit!! We had 2 waitresses. They we very polite, friendly & efficient! I had large fried shrimp, which were delicious, side salad was so yummy. I loved the pickles on the salad!! We had also ordered fried pickles & mushrooms to share with the group, all delicious! Everyone in the group was very pleased with their meal. We definitely be back !!!

Food was warm, homemade and took about 45 min to receive. They serve a warm local macaroni soup that taste local. Mexican cheese enchiladas were melted cheese in corn tortillas. Nothing to write home about. When hungry this will do. Girls are very friendly.

Service was excellent Food was not

Carmen was an excellent waitress. I was hopeful and because service was so good, I gave this a 2. The entire score came from that waitress experience. The food was honestly the worst Mexican food I have ever had eating out. I was pretty bummed because I was on the border and thought I would get a pretty good meal. The cheese enchiladas were inedible and tacos had no flavor. Rice was ok.
