Fun Texas Honky Tonk

Friends brought me here to see a Texas band play - the Kevin Jackson Band. The cafe is split into 2 parts. The first is a restaurant and it was fairly busy at dinner time. The second is the club part, where they still serve food but music is prominent and they do have bands in on a regular basis to play live. I, of course was in the later part. Since we haven't eaten we ordered dinner here. The menu only consisted of a few items, so I went with the easy choice of their Cheeseburger. It arrived quickly and was very good. The most important part of the visit for me was the atmosphere and the music. Both of which were excellent. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the band was great. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Overall a great for some quick eats and great music. Would definitely come back here to see that band play again. Had a great time!

My wife and I drove from Plano TX to the restaurant. I have been searching for the best chicken fried steak in north Texas. This is definitely one of the beast chick fried steaks I have ever had, you can cut it with your fork and the gravy was outstanding. I wanted to drink the gravy by its self. Highly recommend making a date and traveling here and enjoy the food.

Nice little diner

This was my first time at Rocket Cafe. Friendly service. Ordered a 1/2 lb cheeseburger with steak fries. The burger was excellent and very filling. Fries were good too. Nice little place but they are closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Service and food really good.

We almost left because there was a sign that said please be patient one cook is recovering from surgery but decided to try it anyway. No wait what so ever. Drinks came immediately, then appetizer came then we thought here comes the wait. Nope....food came shortly thereafter. We were completely surprised!! Very good food a day they were pretty busy.

Everyone was nice and courteous

We were out on a Sunday afternoon cruise when we came across this cafe. Everyone was nice and courteous. We had the cheeseburger and fries. OMG that was a pretty tasty burger. 🍔 We will definitely be back to try something else.

A Hidden Gem

The drive to the restaurant on 813 was fun with lots of twists and turns. The restaurant was all Texas in theme and decor and was clean and nice We were placed at a table in a niche next to the ramp. The waitress was friendly but business like. We ordered the pork chops and the fish and shrimp. The wait was a little long but the restaurant was packed on a Friday night. We had dinner salads that were small but very good.Salad dressing was liberal and the salad was topped with cheddar cheese. The pork chops consisted of three large chops with hush puppies, Texas toast, and mixed steamed vegetables. Wife commented that they were very good and rated them 5 of 5. My fish and shrimp consisted of two pieces of fish, 5 shrimp, 2 hush puppies, and fried okra. The fish was grilled and seasoned well. I could not guess the seasoning but it had a slight belated bite indicating some pepper. Overall each bite was great and did not need the included red and tartar sauce. We both had leftovers after enjoying two great meals. The prices were fair for the times and the quantity gave you a good value for the money. This was our first visit but we are looking forward to returning. PS the drive back on 813 in the dark was challenging and I would not recommend driving it any way but sober.

CHICKEN FRIED STEAK IS REALLY SMALL

CHICKEN FRIED STEAK: We moved to Midlothian recently and heard about Rocket Cafe and their large Chicken Fried Steak. WE ended the day on a Thursday nite after looking at Bluebonnets. We sat down at 5pm and told the waitress we were going to share the Large Chicken Fried Steak. and we ordered and extra bowl of Fried Okra. When you look them up on Google and see every menu that is posted you will find the Large and Small Steak on the menu's. When it came out it was just a little bigger than a hamburger patty. The waitress knew we were there for the first time and made no mention they only had one steak. She never smiled or said a word. I ask why steak. was. so small and she said thats the way it is. Steak was good but not worth $16.00 THE PLACE SHOULD PUT A MENU ON LINE. WE WILL NOT BE ORDERING THE CHICK FRIED STEAK AGAIN.

If you go away hungry it is your fault. However last few times here in the past, we have had servers that were not too friendly. We never go away hungry though and the price is reasonable.

NO WHERE GOOD AS THEY WAS ONCE WAS

My first time here was 2 years ago and it was amazing - but tonight was the worse. Let us start with the parking lot across the street from you that has a 1 ft drop from road to the lot (not really made for anyone driving a car) Yes, there was a 45 min wait just for a table - it is the weekend and you should expect to be slammed - then it was a 30 min wait for cold food that I could not cut with a knife - I and my husband both had the chicken fried steak and the gravy was hotter than the meat, your okra tasted as if it came out of the freezer, your green beans tasted as they come from a can and your so-called toast was bread covered in butter not even brown. Yes, I said something when we left and your man at the cash draw said "I'm sorry we were slammed and only have 2 cooks but if you come back again we can make it right. WHY THE HELL WOULD I BE BACK?

No taste burger

I was at the bar for a pool tournament, and ordered a burger. I am sorry to say the meat had no taste what so ever. The char in the meat, tasted like the grill had no been cleaned in a very long time

Real deal chicken fried steak

An authentic home cooking restaurant. I have only ever had their famous chicken fried steak. Very nice and a very good portion. The white gravy is very tasty but possibly a bit much. I would recommend asking for either a lighter serving of gravy or having the gravy served separately. Half way through my steak I was having to scrape off most of the gravy.

Delicious steak. One of our favorites. As my husbands says it is a real porterhouse and not a t-none. Absolutely delicious! ! The chicken fried steak is delicious as well.. neat little place with a nice atmosphere. Has a bar attached, with pool tables and dance area.

Rocket Needs a Boost

I was not overly impressed with the food. The service however, was 5 star. Great job guys! Our waiter was attentive and helpful in menu selections. Rockett Cafe leans heavily on its “club” atmosphere and caters to the locals. It’s mostly a bar where you can get a burger/steak. If you need an extensive menu, this is not the place for you. I chose to come here specifically though to try the burger (based on the great reviews). I discovered my burger to be on the very dry side and it just had a different kind of taste than I am accustomed to. I got the distinct impression that my burger was sitting back under a warmer, with a few other burgers for awhile. Odd that the waiter never asked how we wanted our burger cooked. One size fits all?? It should have been hot to the touch with juice pouring out when it reached my table, it was not. The fries were bland at best. The O rings were probably the best thing going, but they needed salt as well! My stars are for the service, not the food. But I do think it’s possible others could potentially enjoy this place better than us. The folks around us seemed to enjoy their meal. It’s just not for our family. Our kids left food on the plate and it wasn’t because the portions. Overall Impression: Call NASA, this Rockett needs a boost.....

This place is awesome. food is great and large portions . We go as often as possible. Huge chicken fried steaks and pork chops. great fries . Just really good country food and music at night although I have not been there for that
