What a Great Restaurant !

I stop here at every chance .... a real taste of Waco , and the best overall restaurant I know of... I bring groups of 2-7 drivers here for lunch on our way to DFW area, it has become almost mandatory, fantastic lunch special menu, under $7, I have eaten my way thru the menu and never had a bad meal .. nobody can say a bad word , food is excellent, prices are great and service is excellent ! This place is a Must Try and ...bet you can't stop at one visit !

Where Locals and Tourist Enjoy Good Food

George’s is a very clean and spacious place to enjoy conversation and good food. It has the Big “O” which is an 18 oz goblet of ice cold beer. The wait staff is well prepared to deliver excellent Texas hospitality to all guest. They are prompt and attentive to customer’s requirements and are glad to make recommendations from the lengthy and diverse menu. They are known for their Chicken Fried Steak,which great. They offer it as a lunchtime special, it is a dinner menu item, and they offer a premium portion for Japanese steak. There is a great number of sides to choose from, large portion salads, and other chicken, beef and fish options. Try the bacon wrapped crazy chicken wings...much like a chicken wing and jalapeño popper. While we do not live in Waco, George’s is on now on our list as a primary place to eat on return visits.

Enjoyed dinner at George’s with some of my family. Staff was welcoming, our server was friendly and she was helpful with recommendations! I chose the BBQ Brisket Sandwich with a Side order of Onion Rings.....excellent choice! Now when I say side order of onion rings....don’t be fooled because they come out to the table and it is a hefty portion (enough for two people)! Will definitely go back the next time I am in the area.

This place got good reviews on trip advisor but I think the reviewers must have all been college students. We had chicken fajitas (chicken was overcooked). Spanish rice was very bland and they really should offer retried beans as the default with the meal, instead of the other plain beans. The blackened redfish was good.

Heard the chicken fried steak was best ever. We did not find it to be that great and the gravy really, really needs some work. It tasted like milk with flour and no seasoning. Come on, if a restaurant is going to hang it's hat on the chicken fried steak, you need to have some gravy with flavor. The green beans, onion rings, mash potatoes, brocolli salad and house salad were all good. The mac and cheese also needs a make over. Very plain and not much flavor. The beer was really nice and cold and the prices for everything was reasonable. Service was excellent too.

Very Good Saturday Lunch!

Arrived around 1230pm Saturday for lunch and was told wait would be 25 minutes, but it was a very short 10 minutes! Carlena was our terrific server. Hubby selected the Elite chicken fried steak and declared it very good. I had the very unique pulled port tacos (2) that were very good. Great menu - lots of choices - good prices

Don’t Both With Breakfast at George’s

Memorial Day 2021. George’s lobby was absolutely packed with people wanting breakfast at about 10:20 AM. Their hostess said about 10-15 minute wait and that served breakfast til 10:40, so we decided to stay. About 5 minutes later at 10:25, the hostess announced that the kitchen had decided to close early for breakfast and start serving lunch. Who wants lunch at 10:30 in the morning, especially on a holiday? The result was predictable—everyone left.

Ordered takeout from George’s #2

I had a huge chef salad that neither of us could finish- I appreciated them wrapping the grilled chicken in foil so it didn’t get cold on the way back to the hotel. Hubby had grilled salmon dinner which he said was very good. We certainly had large portions for a good price and they tasted good. Three pluses!

A great local find!

We were with a large group that had dinner there tonight, and it was a nice meal. Our table ordered a wide variety of things, and everyone was pleased with what they had. Portions were big, and service was good. (Food was slow coming out, but they were busy.) George’s was recommended to us by a desk clerk at our hotel, and it didn’t disappoint. I’d go back for sure. I had the seafood feast (three large coconut shrimp, blackened tilapia on dirty rice, three chicken strips, two sides, and rolls). All items were delicious!

It was ok...

I was disappointed they didn't have flavored coffee creamer and when i tried to order their Big "O" hash, the waitress informed me that they were out of the breakfast potatoes that goes in the dish and they could replace it with hash browns (and it was only 9am!). I said that was fine! Then it took them 30 mins to get our meal to us....I was surprised it would take that long. But once my meal was there, i was disappointed because my dish was cold! Not sure i would go back....

Had a couple “locals” recommend George’s because they have a wide variety of foods and it’s all good so they said! We arrived at 3:25 and were seated promptly with a sweet waitress. The menu does offer a wide variety of foods and southern plate lunches for ~ $13. We asked since we are seniors if we could order from the lunch menu for smaller portions and were told NO since that ended at 3p! Not being terribly hungry, I opted for a couple sides after asking if the okra was fresh or frozen and being told it was very crispy and so good… turned out to be frozen. The garlic mashed potatoes were good as was the slaw. My friend ordered the meatloaf which was a healthy sized portion and covered in a tomato sauce. The meatloaf tasted very bland though with little to no seasonings. The rolls were nothing special either. The best thing about our visit was our waitress, Abby, who was very attentive and sweet! If I’m back in Waco, I’ll pass on George’s though.

Birthday meal gon bad!!

Not very happy. Came out to celebrate my brother's birthday. First off restaurant was too hot, we brought a cake a the icing melted,the food came out in waves instead of all together. My sister ordered fajitas that had to be sent back because they were not hot,plate wasn't sizzling and the birthday man ordered a chicken fried steak that was too salty for him to eat,when asked if he could get a refund our server took forever to come back so he ended up paying for something he couldn't eat. When the manager finally came out she became defensive and asked why did he pay, we were tired of waiting for you to show. What happened to customer satisfaction and service. You could've put it on a gift card like I asked and because it was his birthday meal he didn't enjoy.

A Must Go!

This place was recommended to me by my brother in law. I took his suggestions 100%. Had the chicken fried steak and the crazy wings. Crazy wings are boneless wings stuffed with cheese and jalapeño then wrapped in bacon and deep fried absolutely fantastic juicy and full of flavor Country fried steak mashed taters and Texas style green beens. Steak cooked perfectly and the sides were great as well. The gravy needed a little extra salt and pepper but was still very good. Out of 5 starts they get the full 5 service was attentive and friendly!

Underwhelmed

Wellllll, I can say I was underwhelmed by my dinner at George’s. I went with the Tex mex option and had the chicken fajitas. The chicken had absolutely no flavor and the onions/peppers were not too much past raw veggies. Disappointing If you are conscious and wear a mask, you will be the only one wearing one in this restaurant. No staff were wearing masks either. Just a warning if you have concerns. They do have curbside pickup.

Huge Meals

Food was quite good - the chicken fried steak was excellent. However, it would have been nice for the server to point out how huge the portion is and that half a portion is an option. Unless you are really hungry, the half portion would be more than plenty, especially with two sides!
