This is a wonderfully elegant upscale restaurant. It is downtown Temple, TX and all parking is on the street, but there is plenty available. We had reservations (recommended) and arrived a few minutes early but we were seated immediately. Our server was a wonderful lady by the name of Chavon. She was excellent and very attentive without being there too much. She was personable and enjoyable to be around. We ordered steaks and they were cooked to perfection and the taste was out of this world. These were probably the best steaks we have had anywhere in the world. They were fairly busy, but our food came out at exactly the correct times and was very well presented. One thing I don't like is that NOTHING comes with your meal. You have to order every item, including sides, separately and pay extra for each. As expensive as this place is, one would think the sides could come with the entree. My steak was $57 and you would think a baked potato and salad could be included at that price. Do not come here unless you expect to pay a lot, but it is a great experience and is worth the money. They have an extensive wine list from about $35 on up to $1000+ for a bottle, so knock yourself out!!! We ordered a filet mignon, the ribeye steak, baked potatoes, deserts (creme brûlée is wonderful), and a $60 bottle of wine (that costs $25 at any store). Our total bill was $300. To be fair, they have a lot of items on the menu that are much less expensive than the steaks. Their menu is fairly extensive. So, to rate this restaurant fairly, I cannot compare it to a "standard" place. The food quality here is certainly well above standard and the service and ambiance is top tier. I do think the pricing is high, but it is what it is. Understand before you go in that it is expensive and just enjoy yourselves! Overall, it was an exceptional experience and we will be going back. Very enjoyable.

We decided to try Cheeves on a reference from friends. I have eaten at steak houses from NY to CA and all over in between and this is now considered the best cut, trimmed, seasoned, cooked perfectly to order steak I've ever eaten in a restaurant. The closest is a place in Lexington, KY but don't recall the name but they were ranked in the top 10min the country. We started with the crab cake appetizer and I've never had them prepared like this before. It was a remoulade, sriracha with something else mixed in and was spectacular. It was savory and slightly spicy...amazing. We then split a wedge salad which was pretty good. They definitely make their own blue cheese dressing. Then I had the 16oz prime Ribeye while my wife had the 10 oz filet. Again, perfectly prepared and unparalleled in steak house fare. My only complaint is they were busy when we arrived and we had to flag down our waiter 15 min after being seated just to get our water so we placed our order too. We asked about our wine and he had no clue what he was talking about. When dropping $90 on a bottle I don't like it to be a surprise. However, a lady cam buy to fill our water and asked for someone else who could describe our selection and she happened to be the owner....problem solved! From that point on it was awesome. If you are in Temple, TX and want a great steak I strongly recommend Cheeves. You won't be disappointed!

Three years ago I went to Cheeves for dinner. The food was good, very over priced, and came with extraordinary delays. This week I tried again. The restaurant still serves good food, at highly expensive prices. Once again, after getting drinks and the appetizer, the main course serving was delayed by one hour and 15 minutes. Cheeves occupies the top price category in Temple Texas. From my experience, I feel that prices are very unreasonably high, and the issue of being left unattended with lengthy delays during dinner is unacceptable. I will look for another choice for future high end dining.

My husband and I have been treating ourselves to meals at Cheeves for the last 12 years. We have enjoyed an excellent meal in a pleasant atmosphere every single visit until last night. For starters, there was a VERY LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS group of people seated behind us. Not only were they loud, but they were swearing. I do not make reservations and spend $300 on a meal to hear someone at the table behind me drop the f-bomb!! While our waitress was sweet, she wasn’t very good at all. Way too much time passed between courses (restaurant was not even close to being full) and we had to ask for bread. Our food was not hot when we got it. We could see the kitchen from our table; our food had been sitting for a while waiting to be delivered to our table. Another odd occurrence was the fact that there were two children hanging around the kitchen. We had been looking forward to a nice meal out, and we were very disappointed.

If there was any way to leave 0 stars, I would definitely do that. One star is too much. A colleague and I dined at Cheeves on a recent weeknight. We had 8:00pm reservations. I am a long-time customer from Plano, Texas and I go to Cheeves any time I am in Temple. When my colleague and I arrived for our reservation, we waited at the hostess stand for about 10 minutes. There was no hostess working, and It was clear that no one was going to acknowledge us, so I found the only waiter around to ask him if we could get a table. I said we would be happy to sit in the bar if we could be served dinner there. He said okay and we had a seat there. No one came to our table in the bar. Not to give us a menu, to take a drink order, or tell us they noticed us. Finally, we sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant hoping to get someone's attention. When I was finally able to flag a waitress down, she was very rude but told us to sit at a very small table near the kitchen (Even though 80% of the tables were open). We were extremely hungry so we quickly ordered our drinks, a dozen oysters, two Fillet Mignons, mushrooms and potatoes. We were so shocked when we were served. The Blue Point oysters were so small and several of them had no meat at all. I’ve never seen anything like that. The ones that we did manage to get any meat out of tasted fishy and had pieces of shell in the oyster, as they were not shucked properly. The fillets were tough and overcooked. The mushrooms and potatoes were absolutely horrible. It seemed as though they had been setting out for a long time. The mushrooms were cold and potatoes were dried out and crusty. We did not eat any of it. We were so disappointed. It is such a shame to see how the restaurant has gone so downhill. A reheated frozen meal would have been better. I emailed the restaurant directly twice, and got no response. That was the worst part, because I have had so many satisfactory meals at Cheeves before.

While visiting family in Temple we were taken to Cheeves Bros for a relative's birthday dinner. The location and decor was charming but the dining experience (both quality of the food and especially the service) left much to be desired. There were only three other tables in the restaurant when we arrived and despite having a reservation we were left standing unattended at the entrance for several minutes. This was not a great inconvenience to us, but an indication of poor service/culture as one of the waiters walked directly past twice (on his way to and from resetting another table) without greeting or even acknowledging us. A miminum of "Welcome to Cheeves, My colleague will be with you momentarily" would have been expected at an establishment claiming to provide decent service. Once seated our server was curt and unhelpful. She would rush off before taking complete orders and at two points in the evening disappeared or was inattentive for long periods of time. This despite the fact that there were only 1-3 other tables in the restaurant and for the majority of the evening we were her only customers. As for the food: the blackened seafood fondue was delicious and by far the highlight of the visit. I had the 16 oz Ribeye -it was cooked as ordered but was over salted. It was a satisfactory steak, but not outstanding. Given that the restaurant portrays itself to be Temple's leading steak house...I would have expected much more. The Ribeye would have been perfectly acceptable at a $30-40 price point, but fall far below the bar for it's $75 price tag. The truffle mac and cheese was "nothing to write home about." We had two orders of mini beef wellington at the table and both were underwhelming. The accompanying mushrooms, shallot merlot reduction was terribly over salted and the pastry puff was poorly executed. It was overcooked/burnt on the bottom but undercooked/doughy on the inside. All in all, it was a disappointing evening. Poor value for money. I wouldn't return.

We have been customers of Cheeves for over 6 years since our move to this area. We had reservations on December 22 for dinner to celebrate our birthdays. After having our salads, a couple was seated at a table next to us no more than 2-3 feet away. We have both had COViD and do not want to repeat the experience. We thus asked to speak to the manager. When he came to the table he said it was the holidays, and it was thus difficult to socially distance tables. We told him that was not a legitimate excuse. He said we were willing to take a chance by coming out to eat and thus the seating close to others was not a problem. He said it was a virus, and everyone was going to get it anyway. We said he had a poor attitude and if he or a family member got it he might change his mind. He arrogantly said he would not, so we asked for our meal to go. His cavalier attitude was unbelievable. We have a always enjoyed eating here, but never again. I guess it is OK to disobey regulations for the holidays so he can make more money.

I was looking for a good steakhouse in Temple and thought Cheeves would fit the bill. They have a nice website, very impressive. I was able to make reservations online, the menu items looked tasty, and we were seated right away, but that is where the good reviews end. The Beef Wellington Appetizer was a sliver of meat in a ball of dough, almost missed the meat if I hadn't cut one open. The main course came out more cold than warm. I was really hoping for a good steak, but Texas Roadhouse steak would have been better, and way less expensive. For the price of this restaurant, I was really expecting more. I was expecting at least what other high end restaurants, charging similar prices, served, hence my title, disappointing. I won't be going back there.

My Boss and I were traveling to Central Texas for the week with work. We enjoyed different meals at local small businesses, we chose to have steak tonight, in lieu of a traditional chain restaurant we picked Cheeves Bros. Steakhouse, the environment was nice, no wait for a table, somewhat wait for service but understood that several parties were seated at the same time, we ordered our steaks a filet mignon, and a NY Strip steak with sides, both cooked perfectly, appearance flawless, and great taste. The strip and sides were very tasteful and perfect. The filet mignon however not even a quarter of the way in my boss pulled out a long hair from his steak, he stopped eating disgusted at what he found, explained and showed the server the hair, she was very sympathetic to what he found, and went to discuss what was found with the back staff, he was offered another steak, but at this point he was beyond displeased. A different server asked my boss again if he wanted another steak to which he was polite and simply stated he had lost his appetite and not interested in trying another steak. I had finished my meal very awkwardly while our server returned again offered my boss another steak and apologized, and offered an excuse from the back staff that it wasn't a hair he had found, but in fact a basting brush used on the steaks. Already disgusted this did nothing but make the matter worse. We were done and bill was given to us, my bosses steak was not charged and removed, only charged for his drink and side. We travel and dine out for several weeks on end and this has been the most unsettling experience we have had in what we considered a very upscale establishment in the Temple area. No fault to our server, but definitely not handled well with the management of the establishment. I only hope others did not have a similar experience we did.

My wife and I went to Cheeves Brothers for a late lunch. It was about 1PM when we arrived and we were two of six customers in the main dining room. My wife ordered the PENNE DAL GIARDINO (I copied that because my typing is poor!) and I got the Tenderloin Diane. We had the mini crab cakes for an appetizer and a great glass of Chardonnay. Our server, Dee Dee, was fantastic. Her professionalism coupled with a great sense of humor added greatly to the experience. The mini crab cakes were wonderful. Perfectly flavored and cooked. My wife's Penne dish was absolutely fantastic (according to her) and, frankly, my Tenderloin Diane was perfectly cooked to medium rare (as I asked for it) and the sauce/mushrooms were phenomenal! What a great place. Yes, it is quite pricey - but the foods are perfectly prepared (my great appreciation to the chefs!) and served. It was our special day out - so Cheeves Brothers foods and service were both elegant and exceptionally in the more than outstanding category!

We went to Cheever’s because we had one meal with our out of town guests. I told them it was the best fine dining in Temple. This meal lived up to the title. We all started with salads which were fresh, crisp and very tasty. My rib-eye was equal to any Midwest steak I have had. The pasta dish was delicious. The fish was perfectly prepared. The filet was well worth the trip by itself. We had two bottles of wine both were excellent. My only problem with the meal was we did not have room for dessert. If you have only one meal in Temple this is the place.

I come here when I’m not bothered by spending a couple bucks on amazing food. I have yet to be disappointed. And the desserts are AMAZING to top it all off. The drinks are outstanding, the appetizers are mouth watering, the entrees are incredible, and the desserts...Well....let’s just say it’s hard not to make noises while eating them

The food was amazing and the service was excellent! We will be returning! We went for my birthday and saw all the negative reviews and were a little concerned, but decided to go anyway. We had reservations and were seated immediately at a nice quiet table for two. My husband was not sure about which Texas draft beer he would like so the waitress brought three little glasses for him to try. All of the beers were excellent, but he chose the dark amber. We order the shrimp cocktail and the shrimp was perfectly cooked and seasons with an excellent shrimp sauce. It was so good we ordered another one! My husband ordered the blackened Redfish and I ordered the Georgia Bank Boat scallops both came with herbed basmati rice. Even though we ordered another appetizer our main meal came out in plenty of time for us to finish our second shrimp cocktail. The redfish was perfectly cook with a lightly backened coating and the sauce was to die for! Creamy with spinach and mushrooms over the rice. My scallops were cooked to perfection with a lemony caper sauce over the rice. Our sides were the aspergrus and the truffle mac and cheese. Both of the sides were excellent! Our last treat was the Creme Brulle with both raspberries and blackberries on top. When the waitress brought out the desert she also brought me a rose for my birthday. It was the perfect end to a wonderful dining experience.

Had dinner w family following an unplanned visit. Have been to Cheeves many times over the years. Hoped the recent events hadn't had an effect on the steakhouse. I wasn't let down. I had the 8oz filet with merlot reduction and sautéed spinach. It was a treat. I had a traditional bleu cheese wedge as a starter. It was a fabulous meal paired with a house cab. It did not disappoint and I look forward to many more years of frequenting one of my favorite steakhouses in Texas. Thank you for not letting me down!

Two couples celebrated anniversaries together at Cheeves and we had an excellent time. Service was great (DeeDee was superb) and our food came out of the kitchen in the proper amount of time. Our food was cooked to perfection. I had filet mignon and have never had better! This is certainly an upscale restaurant, so expect to pay high prices. I can't afford this all the time, but sure enjoy it when I can. The reason I cannot give it 5 stars is that the restaurant needs to decide what it is. I understand the economics, but it has both a sports bar and upscale dining in virtually the same room. If you want a sports bar, then wall it off. When I eat out for an exceptional experience I don't want tv's and people at a bar distracting me. IF you want to have both, then cut your prices on the restaurant side. All in all, we had a great meal and will come back I'm sure.
