Excellent all the way around. First the service was great, especially sine a basketball team showed up at the same time we did, and they were already busy. They took our drink orders immediately and shortly afterwards ou food order. Everything arrived in a reasonable...amount of time, definitely not slowed down by the crowd. Second, the food was impressive. Everything remind me of sitting down to a homemade meal in the south. Fresh green beans and mashed potatoes, and a chicken fried steak you would have to see to believe. I ordered the medium and couldn't finish it, I can't imagine how big the large is. Highly recommend.More

Flew our airplane in to Eastland (KETN; incredible FBO there) and grabbed the courtesy car to go to Mary's. Had seen it featured in an episode of the Texas Bucket List tv show. Absolutely the best chicken fried steak we'd ever had, with enormous portions....I mean GYNORMOUS sized portions. Super friendly staff, got to meet Mary who is an absolute hoot and a sweetheart. Go hungry; you won't be disappointed. Their burger is absolutely HUGE so it takes a while to cook and they warn you as such. We will absolutely return - it's truly a Texas gem.More

Maybe better than Mom's. Nothing to say but to add to others, the best CFS in Texas (which means the world). None of that ridiculous breading that is found at chain restaurants. Great black pepper cream gravy is a must and Mary does it in...spades. A treasure in the hinterlands. Well worth the four minute drive from I-20. I have never been able to not order the CFS but the nachos on other tables looked really good and if you are into chicken livers, this is probably a must stop. I would love to get a burger but the chicken fried is sooo good.....More

First trip to Mary's in 8 years. Food is as good as ever (Best CFS) in Texas. Prices have increased over the years, but that's true everywhere. Atmosphere is still the same (none) but the inside did get a paint job and grease removal. Will...we go back ? You bet. PS Mary still takes the orders.More

We stopped to have breakfast at Mary's as we left GOTL to head to our next destination. The 4 of us had a great breakfast, but more importantly the staff was outstanding. They took the time to just have conversations with us. It was such...a wonderful homey feeling. I don't know if we will ever get back to Mary's but I would definitely seek them out again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.More

90% of the establishments in Texas that serve CFS, do not know what they are doing. Most serve cheap cuts of meat and then cover it up with breading and gravy. Not Mary, you will never find a better Chicken Fried Steak. This is the...True Real Deal and a exactly the way CFS is supposed to be prepared and served.More

If you only go once, you have no choice but to order chicken fried steak. This is a Texas tradition. I think they make them on a flatiron. I know they have much more on the menu and if you go more than once, I'm...sure other items are great too. Enjoy!More

Mary’s is one hopping place. There are no Other choices in town. We drove 1 hour to try it again after contracting COVID there in 2020. We gave it two years. It’s really crowded and I didn’t see any precautions being taken to Prevent any...contact. Our waiter could not have been nicer. He was friendly and was working hard. The chicken fry was good. I asked for real butter for the baked potato and they had none. Crazy. Only whipped vegetable margarinetype stuff. We will wait a while to return.More

We visited Mary’s Café following a weekend trip to Possum Kingdom Lake when we realized how very close we were to the best fried chicken steak in Texas. We arrived at about 11 a.m. on a Sunday morning and already found a place packed with...locals. Service was prompt and attentive and friendly. They handled the crowds well, even though a sign in the restroom noted them being short of staff due to the pandemic. We all ordered the chicken fried steak because that’s what we came for, but it was hard to choose that with so many other tempting offerings on the menu. Watching the various items being delivered to the tables around us we knew we would have to return. Everything looked amazing. Abundant portions and definitely fresh made. Even ordering the small chicken fried steak, half of my meal ended up in a to-go box. The presentation is rather unique with the chicken fried steak portions placed atop toasted Texas toast. At first I thought they skimped on the gravy only to have a large bowl of white gravy placed in the center of the table. With that we were able to add the perfect amount of gravy to the mashed potatoes and the chicken fried steak and even the biscuit as desired. One of my dining companions thought the potatoes were too lumpy, as she preferred a more whipped mashed potato; however, they were absolutely perfect to me. Absolutely sated, we still ordered pie for dessert and they were scrumptious. We definitely will be back, but next time we will order our pies first and share meals.More

People will drive two hours just to go to Mary's. I am one of those. Friday or Saturday night dinner, prepare to wait. In all of my travels, I cannot think of a chicken fried as good as Mary's.

We stopped by for dinner on our way to Dallas because another family member said it was good and had the "Best Chicken fried steak". I don't know where they have eaten but It was far from the best I had ever eaten. The gravy...was good. They also charge for an extra plate if you share a meal ( my husband and I shared a meal but used the same plate and still got charged). I know where we WON'T be going back.More

Came out to dinner here for the second time hoping it would be better, but it was worse! Appetizer of queso was burnt (not sure how they managed that), refried beans with crusty outside, greasy chips, soggy tamales, sirloin well done when asked for medium...rare. They recooked a new sirloin and it came out medium and it was also MUCH thinner than the original (I guess that was our punishment for sending it back. Such a disappointment.More

My uncle and aunt took us to Mary's Cafe and my uncle insisted that I get the "Large Chicken Fried Steak". They had told me how huge it was and I gave in and ordered it. There is no way I could eat this steak....I am a large man and a healthy, or make that unhealthy eater. In my 20's through 40's I may have been able to eat this but only in the event that I wanted to make myself miserable. I am now 64 and ate about 1/3 of the steak. We took the remainder back to my uncle's and aunt's house and the four of us had Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs for breakfast the next morning. The steak was sooo big and also sooo good.More
