Perfect First Evening on South Padre

We drove from Houston and found it took longer than expected to get to the Island. It was getting late when we arrived. We headed straight to Laguna Bobs since it was advertised as a good late night option. A cold draft beer, a fried seafood basket and listening to a very good band was a great start to our trip.

Nice Location Friendly Staff

We went out for happy hour drinks, and a meal. The location is great to watch the sunset over the Laguna Madre. The food selection was limited, but what was on offer was prepared well. The live music was a bit of a disappointment. The live performers would ask the audience for their favorite artists, but he did not know anyone's music request. Unless the audience request Kenny Chesney, he did not know the songs. Hopefully, that was just a fluke with the entertainment. My real reason for choosing this location was to view the sunset, so I was not too disappointed.

Great Sunset Beach Bar

Really nice low key beach bar on the bay. Good spot for watching the sunset. Drinks are good and the bar food decent. Food is peal and eat shrimp, burgers,wings etc. There is not a lot to say about a beach bar

Terrible service

Ceviche is served with crackers. I am allergic to wheat. Asked for corn tortillas (they don’t have tortilla chips) in place of crackers and indicated we would pay extra. Bartender said point blank to my request “we don’t do that”. This is all after they had already deserved the ceviche to us. Really rude. Take your money? They do “do that”.

Go with low expectations and you will not be disappointed

Music was way too loud and not very musical. For me, I’d rather hear a single or a duo without recorded backup tracks. The boiled shrimp was really good, but the mahi tacos were very very dry.

Laguna Bobs (formerly Wahoo’s) has always been one of our favorite places to go to on the bay. Our family owned a condo there for several years and have continued to frequent this place on vacations after moving out of state for 20 years. Our daughter turned 21 in January and we wanted to take her while visiting the island this past week. We went a couple of times and really enjoyed the service. Our last night, we decided to go back. A different bartender was working and refused to believe that my daughter’s drivers license was valid and would not serve her. He was very rude and unprofessional. After all these years, we will not be back. What a shame. They might consider more experienced bartenders or investing in a scanner to do their job for them.

Kept coming back

I think we ended up coming back to this bar three times during our visit. We'd try somewhere else and then say, "Let's go back to Laguna Bob's." One of the singers who was there was amazing--Greg Mathers. They also have a resident cat, so it was fun to interact with yet another island feline! In addition to the cocktails, we recommend the fried pickles and the Maui Wowie burger made with fish.

Drinks !

I was sober & ordered a rum & coke. It was lame, so I ordered a "Long Island Iced tea". It was slightly noticable, as my rum & coke should have been. I paid $18 plus tip & left to go next door to Tequila Sunrise where the drinks were much better & stronger & better priced. I've no affiliations with either place. Just sayin.

Great: bar, food, sunset, atmosphere

We came at around 17:30 looking for a dinner with sunset, and we found some good spots here. The terrace has gas heaters, so it was warm all evening. Live music was nice! And food is very simple but very delicious.

Great place to watch the sunset and listen to music

Recently went with a friend. For dinner. We had two appetizers. Ceviche. And shrimp. Both were good. We love the bands that were playing. The drinks and beer are well priced. There is an additional charge if you use your credit card however.

We went on Friday night for the live music, which was advertised to start at 9 PM, but didn't start until 9:30. Small dining area and mostly outside uncovered. Food was average in taste and price. A typical beach bar.

Very good restaurant/bar

We enjoyed our first stop here recently, so we returned a second time. Food by Dido and drinks by bartenders Tom and Jeff were all excellent. We loved relaxing and enjoying the bay view while we ate lunch on two consecutive days and enjoyed their music. Will return when we are back in town.

Lunch with my kids

Stopped in with my two kids for lunch. Great atmosphere on the water in walking distance to other shops. The staff was very friendly. My kids shared a fried shrimp basket and fried pickles. It was awesome. I had the blackened fish tacos with fries. Great. Came with some tasty remulade sauce. I really enjoyed it. We will probably come back before we leave!

Lively Atmosphere

Spent part of an afternoon here for drinks and live music. The place is on the water and was packed. The musicians prompted some audience participation - lots of singing and dancing to keep everyone entertained. Beer was cold and reasonably priced.

Great outdoor patio

We were riding bikes by & heard good music on a Sunday afternoon. We stopped & enjoyed music, food & outdoors. We had shrimp baskets. I like their idea of ordering at their bar, when you are ready. Then within 10 minutes our food was served at our table & was good. Very enjoyable!
