Living locally in Smithville, I like to support the local businesses as much as possible. I decided to have a dinner at the Back Door Café and was not impressed. Going inside it is a nice relaxing atmosphere. The waitress hands you a single piece of paper with the daily menu items to order from. To keep it simple the... More

After reading great reviews we decided to meet friends for lunch at the Back Door Cafe. While the service was excellent, the meal was not up to par. The chicken-fried steak tasted like it had come from a pre-fab supplier in the frozen state and heated, as did the chicken fried chicken. The rice and green beans were nothing special.... More

Great atmosphere and service, but the pork chop was amazing! Melted blue cheese and bacon pieces on top, yummy! I would definitely recommend trying it out.

I was there on Friday March 4th, 2016 for a conference dinner and the food was delicious. While everyone else had the meat and raved over it, I had the vegetarian meal. I'm not sure what the dish in the bowl was, but it was delicious!! (Any idea what it was???). The staff were friendly and made sure that we... More

This is a small unassuming cafe, but the ordinary-ness stops @ the door. Known for the coconut pie, the chef is world-trained and prepared some of the best food I had ever had. The salads were so fresh with dressings unmatched. I had the pork chop with potatoes & vegetables...delicious. My friend had the salmon with vegetables & mashed potatoes,... More

A cozy cafe with really good food that changes on the menu with what the chef finds available. Have a seat, order, and walk through the connecting door to an amazing antiques store to find a treasure while you wait!! BYOB or choose from the drink list. Nice location to watch the parade should you be in town for that... More

Love the menu choices. They are limited but certainly well priced. The steak and the chicken fried steak are amazing.

This is a charming little restaurant. We enjoyed our meal but it's not the high end place some describe. My husband got the chicken fried steak - full portion - and be aware it was VERY generous. The half portion is probably a normal meal.

Nice place to stop for lunch. Portions are enormous: you get a main course with two sides, plus unlimited chili and a salad bar, for only $1 more than chili and salad alone. They could use a more upscale coffee maker, but really, it's a pleasure to find a place like this in a town too small for a McDonald's.
