What a fun and unique restaurant! Two moms (I was one of them) and three kids trudged into this place in the blazing heat on a Thursday afternoon in July. We were greeted with kindness and ice water. After a brief wait, we ducked into one of the awesome levels of this cool dive and had the sweetest waitress! She... More

This place is a neat little lunch spot in San Marcus. Cute atmosphere and great food. I had the tuna salad and it was delicious! Very different from the typical. They serve Maine soda which is great! It's a little noisy due to the basement style layout. Overall I definitely recommend.

Ask where a nice non chain place would be that I could escape after outlet mall shopping. This was recommended by two clerks. Downtown and off the beaten path. I had seared tuna steaks. 2 nice portions served with fresh green beans and wild rice. Very very good. Little load but ok.

We live in Kyle, TX, about 10 minutes north of San Marcos, and over the years, I've heard lots of good reviews for the Root Cellar Cafe. Recently, my wife suggested a late lunch here, and I'm glad she did. It was around 1:30pm, and inside the restaurant was pretty crowded, with a 25-30 minute wait. We opted to sit... More

This place is located near Texas State, so when we went for lunch we were surrounded by academia. This is a brewery also, so they serve craft beers. The lunch was tasty. I had the Mandarin Salad. The Citrus Sangria was cool and refreshing. The sangria was made with white wine, champagne, and fruits.

Looking for something different for lunch, away from the usual fast food. Saw billboard, however a little way of the beaten track. The service was polite and very friendly, valued recommendations, different menu, surprising and nice.

Was walking through town heading to the pizza joint when I bumped in to someone who suggested this place. The atmosphere was nice and the art was very cool. We ate burgers, salads, chicken cordon, pasta, and some artichoke spinach dip. All were very good. Great place to eat and hang out! I really want this artwork!!!!

Have been here several times for dinner while visiting San Marcos. Gets better every time. Kind of a basement European bistro feel, with great gourmet food, craft beer and wine. Quiet enough to talk. Hip enough for college kids with their parents, professionals and tourists with tastes that aim above hamburgers and pizza. Seafood. Salads, appetizers, soups, a good variety... More

After a day of shopping at the outlet mall, my friend and I used Trip Advisor to locate a restaurant that was for us, off the beaten path. Based on the recommendation of other reviewers, we settled on the Root Cellar Cafe and we were so pleased with our choice. The burger with a side of fried asparagus was outstanding.... More
