Popped in while visiting friends in the area. The staff was efficient despite being busy. I have a lot of food allergies so I appreciated that the wait staff was able to answer all of my questions about the menu with confidence. Prices are in line with most eateries these days and you get a generous serving. Great value. Great service. I'll be back the next time I'm in town.

Lunch special is awesome

We came here for the buy one get one half off burger lunch special. The burgers were huge! And delicious. Our server (blonde lady) was very kind and quick. Will definitely come back some night to check out the beer selection- it's a whole wall.

What happened to this place?!

This place used to have the best burgers around. It is horrible now. I don’t know what the new owners are thinking. Food quality has completely changed. The burgers were drive through quality at best. Meat wasn’t seasoned, they changed the buns which got soggy immediately. The fries have changed, they hard and narrow instead of the wedge fries they used to have. Onion rings are gone. $12-$14 for a burger, side not included, and I would have been more satisfied with Whataburger. Sadly, we won’t ever be going back to what used to be one of our favorite places for lunch.

V4519YUcarlypI'm disappointed to hear this is your feedback about The Taproom - especially given that we just won Best Burger in Hays County via San Marcos Daily Record for the second year in a row! While we have made some changes to the food -- mostly away from pre-packaged frozen items to homemade -- the burgers have not greatly changed. Meat is still seasoned, and the buns are the same sweet sourdough buns served at Taproom for the last 30 years (unless you ordered a quarter pounder burger, which is a new item served on a sesame seed bun, as indicated on the menu). Fries are the seasoned wedge fries -- it sounds like you visited us during our struggles with record high inflation and supply chain issues and might have been served one of our temporary "substitutions" when getting the original wedge fries was not cost-effective -- rest assured: the old ones are back. And we do have onion rings -- they are now homemade instead of frozen. As for prices going up --- that is a regretable necessity. But, I can't think of a single restaurant that hasn't been forced to increase prices during the past year. Thankfully, we recently reduced our customer pricing, as our supplies have finaly come down on certain items (by the way, you can add a side of fries, tots or sweet potato fries to any burger for $1). If you do decide to revisit us, I encourage you to share any of your feedback with our staff or ask for a manager or myself -- it is important to me that long-standing customers of The Taproom understand our updates and changes as we navigate a post-Covid, high-inflation restaurant ecosystem.

I would not send my dog here. We ordered the Thursday lunch special which clearly includes the drink. The website and printed menu both clearly said that. The mean waitress insisted we were wrong and charged us extra for one drink. I insisted we deserved another soda that came with the lunch special and she insulted me again. I gave up and ate the mediocre burger. Go anywhere else In town to be treated decently.

Hi there. Though your review is older, I am one of the new(ish) owners, having purchased the business in November of 2021. I do want to point out that we are still offering the lunch specials -- with fries and drink included -- and al the staff is educated about exceptional service and the specials. I hope that when you swing back through San Marcos you consider us again.

Hello Carrie, I apologize that you found a hair in your food. We strive for cleanliness and to avoid cross-contamination in all our food prep and service. Did you alert this issue to your server or a manager on duty? We would have been happy to comp your meal given the circumstances. As for parking, we do have 10 designated spots in the back of the building, but as we are located in the historic downtown it can be hard to find a spot to park -- even for our employees! We always suggest ride sharing or utilizing one of the city-designated parking lots.

A highlight in our visit to San Marcus! Great service, good food, nice portions! My husband loved the atmosphere and I was so grateful for a cool clean place to kick up my feet and get some grub. I would go again!!!

Beer Heaven

Our group of 12 had a blast! We started with appetizers of chips, salsa and queso, fried pickles and chicken wings. We washed it down with several different varieties of beer. Tons of options! The burgers are great and the ribs were tasty (but not hot in the center bones). Our group had a lot of fun playing live trivia hosted by “Geeks who drink”. Championship for us btw. Nikki was our server and did an amazing job taking care of us all night.

Excellent burgers!

We visited the Tap Room for dinner. If you are in the mood for a great burger, this is the place to go! They have a huge selection of beers on tap, but this day I was there for the burgers. I has a “works burger” which came with bacon, two cheeses and some other great ingredients. It was all served on their slightly sweet bun and was an epitome of deliciousness! It was a great burger and the wedge fried potatoes were a tasty side. Great food!

Tucked in on the downtown square in San Marcos, Texas, the Tap Room is the watering hole for the town. Loads of varieties of beers on tap, in addition to a long list by the bottle. The food is legendary and the service was off the charts. The Tap Room is also on the Texas Bucket list and has a menu item related to that visit. Our very large group was accommodated with ease and everything was served in a timely manner.

Came here to watch an Astros game while out of town. Bartenders were more interested in chatting up their friends than serving us. It’s a cool location, but our last time to visit.

Tasty Burgers

Burgers are homemade with fresh ingredients. Loved the crispy onion rings and wedge fries on the side. Wife ordered the spicy burger which was also very tasty but not spicy at all. Not the cleanest place to eat but what can you expect from a bar located near a college.

Gotta have the ribs

Brought family for the ribs, even though I had the fish and chips. Everyone loved the ribs but the fish and chips weren't as good as before. It was the holidays and the student crowd was out. That made it a better time to enjoy the place. Excellent selection of beer.
