We were not impressed with the new menu. If you do not eat red meat or dark meat, you only have one chicken option. No pasta dishes. Main entrees usually do not include a side...you pay extra for that. Our food took a hour to...get to us. The management was gracious, however, and apologized several times. For the price, we will not be going back. The food that we did get was good, but not great.More

Amazing food and service! Clinton and Chef Jacob have really created a winner. We’ve been several times for dinner and once for brunch and the ambience, service and, of course, the food were all fabulous. I’m so happy to be able to have Jacob’s food...again. There is nothing comparable outside of Austin or Dallas. What a wonderful setting and fabulous menu! A must try if you are in the area!More

Had a quiet lunch with my mom and sister while shopping in Salado after Christmas. Barton House was the only open restaurant it seemed on that day! We all had the BLT which was really good. Fries were different and very good. We shared the...mushroom appetizer which was disappointing. The description said it had sausage, which sounds spicy and flavorful. We go ground beef that was unseasoned. We were in a tiny dining room that had it's own lavatory which was actually good since my mom can't walk very well. I've visited for dinner in the past also and Barton House is OK. They have a large wine selection.More

Our group had dinner reservations for 6:30; we were seated as we arrived. I was one of the last to arrive and was seated at 6:25. I got water and iced tea at 7:10 - the first attention our table received since I was seated....We had pre- ordered our food selections, so one would assume adequate preparation and staff would be taken care of..... Salads came around at 7:45. Entrees arrived at 8:15, dessert at 8:35. Our group had plenty of time to dig out pens and write or draw on the white paper covering the tablecloths! The quality of the food was great - easily worth four stars. Salads were fresh and flavorful, the chicken fried steak ( which most of our group had opted for) was tasty, with a crisp panko coating. The accompanying vegetables were tender-crisp. The potatoes were warm rather than hot and the gravy was very sparse in relation to the meat portion. Lemon marzipan was light and lovely. Eighteen persons were seated in the room and one server was assigned. She was lovely and trying, but not effective. Things didn't begin to move along until a couple of other staff members were assigned to assist. The other half of our group was seated in an adjoining room with comparable issues. The restaurant is actually an old home, converted, so each dining area is a separate room We were seated in the basement, so stairs and such were a logistic for staff to deal with, too. The ambiance is ok and the food really is good. I would not recommend it unless you have lots of unplanned time to linger, and you grab a snack before you go. Waiting that long for food and staring at an empty water glass is not acceptable to me.More

This lovely old building has been restored in a delightful fashion. The Salmon eggs Benedict were good but the plate was a bit sparse. It could have used some fruit accompaniment. Server was very attentive and efficient.

My husband and I went to Salado November7-10, 2019. We went to have dinner the first night we were there at the Barton House. The staff was so incredibly kind. The prices were great, the food DELICIOUS,and the service wonderful. Something came up just as...our food was getting ready to be served to us and my husband went to speak to them and ask if they could box up our food to go. Without hesitation that got right on it and also asked if there was anything else that they might do to help us. We will be going back to dine there the next time that we visit Salado, which will be sooner than later ❤️! Thank you!More

Fun day in Salado with friends - shopping local stores and dining/drinkomg at the Barton House - refreshing mimosa's on the patio in the morning, lunch of wonderful kale ravioli, and dinner on the patio - with Pinot Grigio and amazing candy bacon and cheese...appetizer tray and chicken tenders and salad. This was such a fun place to be we actually had three stops in one day! Debbie Sheffield was very friendly, inviting and set the tone for an incredible experience! The food and service at Barton House was excellent, our waitress Bula was exceptional every visit! Fellow patrons were very friendly and welcoming too! We will definitely be back!More
