Causeway is a modern bar and hangout serving up cocktails, espresso, and great food from the grill. Established in 2014 as a café and coffee shop in Port Isabel’s historic Lighthouse Square district, we have expanded into a full bar and grill, bringing a city-style pub to South Texas, with the region’s best craft beer selection and trained espresso experts. Our back garden patio has views of the water and the bridge to South Padre Island — called the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway, it’s the landmark we’re named after. Sit indoors or street-side, and you’re right in front of the Lighthouse, built in 1852. Enjoy great coffee in a cafe setting — stay for lunch, dinner, drinks and entertainment.…
Ate at the Causeway on Feb 12 on a spur of the moment decision Wife ahd one of the largest taco salads I have seen and I had crunchy tacos. They were not afraid of putting plenty of perfectly seasoned hamburger on eithe meal. The...waitresswas very helpful and friendly. The other patrons were having an enjoyable visit with each other. Service was quickm and prices average but the food was above average!!More
After a week of (mostly fried) seafood, we tried this place. Everyone ordered wraps and salads. Simply put, everything was very fresh and tasty. You can tell when places take pride in their food and striving to make it memorable. Causeway Cafe does this, going...the extra mile to elevate food above the average. It is a little expensive.More
Coolest cafe on Port Isabel. They have a delish list of cafes and cocktails! The Causeway Cafe opens up to a beautiful patio in the backyard... it's worth a stop!
After 9pm the Cafe closes down as a "cafe" and is primarily a bar afterwards....When ordering two coffees afterwards the Bartender made a pretty clear face for ordering coffee instead of a drink, I suppose because the coffee equipment was already cleaned, lol.
Anyhow, other than that, its a pretty chill spot.More
The staff is always courteous. The food is good to; however, I would like to see some of the prices a little less pricey. Compared to other places in town it's not real competitive in that aspect. Nice atmosphere though.
Comfortable bar and restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The waiter was also the bar tender and we had to place our food and drink orders at the bar. Not sure if it was just due to slow nature of the season and staff was cut...back. Still it was no big deal and we sat and waited for the food after the drinks were served. I ordered a Beef Gyro, it just wasn't to my taste, the beef was not shaved and there was some grissle I had to remove, the sauce was not my favorite either, overall I would give it a C-minus. I also ordered a side Greek salad. Since I wasn't fond of the gyro, my expectations were not too high, but it was delicious and saved the meal. The dressing was great and it looked so inviting too. Overall I would visit again, but make different choices.More
If you’re looking for the best coffee & breakfast (at least), this is your place. I ordered a $4 breakfast taco with egg & potato, which was scratch cooked, including a homemade tortilla & the best homemade green salsa you could ask for. I also...ordered a specialty coffee, which I think was named Bahamas Breeze, their authentic recipe that had a hint of cherry in it and was outstanding if you like mochas, served in a ceramic mug. My husband ordered an Americano coffee & an egg and chorizo taco, both which he said were outstanding. You only need one taco, as they are nearly full plate size. The menu is full with a variety that’ll span the day & take you through lunch & dinner, including soups, salads, sandwiches, and many other options, and including a full bar & beer on tap. The prices are very reasonable, especially during happy hour. This is as close to a quaint cafe as you can get in the U.S.! It has a European flair with food & drinks you’ll actually enjoy. It’s located directly across from the historic lighthouse next to the bridge to South Padre.More
They have excellent coffee. You order at the bar. The breakfast was very good. Not a big selection but plenty. Have nice atmosphere but music kinda strange. Liked the outside patio but was too chilly to sit out.
