The bakery sells older bakery in the displays, had a fruit kolache and it was hard possibly a day old. I also tried the strudel and it was very messy, too much of that white coating which was all sugar.

Donald, we are very upfront about the fact that we have a day-old baked goods section in our store, and we discount these items heavily due to the fact that they are no longer up to our quality standards. Your review seems to suggest that we are misleading our customers by selling day-old items without warning, which is absolutely untrue.... More

On a tour of Texas, you have to stop at the Oldest Bakery in Texas! It opened in 1868. The line was long, but we got through it quick. So many options, it can be a little overwhelming. The girl behind the counter suggested the cheese pocket and apple strudel. I got both, and my family got doughnuts and kolaches.... More

Happy to be on your list of 'musts' for a Texas tour, ronandcheryl! Thank you for joining us and for sharing some kind words about our friendly service. Sweetness is definitely in full effect here, but we've got plenty of savory and less sweet options for everyone! Hope to welcome you again soon, Naegelin's Bakery More

My daughter and I went here for a quick breakfast. We got a cheese pocket, a german sweet pretzel and a cinnamon roll. Everything was delicious! Anytime I'm in New Braunfels I'll be sure to stop by.

Excellent strudel, the pastry was nice and flaky and the filling was not overly sweet. Everything looked wonderful to try, it was not easy to control myself.

I'm thinking we just made bad choices in the cookies we bought : ranger and pecan/cranberry. The former were dry and the latter were doughy and flavorless. On the bright side, the apple fritters were very good. Prices were reasonable.

It's a small family owned bakery. We visited because it's the oldest bakery in Texas and thought it had to be great to be around so long. It's not great. The cinnamon rolls are dry and don't have much icing. The cookies were on the dry side as well but the gingerbread man did have a good flavor. The cakes... More

AH1999, we're disappointed that we made such a lukewarm first impression. We bake everything fresh here, so it should never taste dry or stale. We do have a day-old section, though, with discounted sweets -- perhaps you picked some items from that section? The best way to experience our baked goods is to try them fresh -- here's hoping we'll... More

Description
The fresh cookies, pastries, pies and cakes from Naegelin's Bakery are of historic proportions and timeless quality. It's all in the preparation. The Granzin family still uses recipes developed by the Naegelin family during more than a century of experimentation to get the right ingredients. As you walk into the front door of the bakery, the sweet smell of baked foods engulfs you like a warm blanket. The glass cases are full of what seems like an almost endless array of cookies and pastries in a rainbow of colors. The bakery is still famous for their strudels that Naegelin perfected years ago. The Granzin's have added terrific sausage kolaches in addition to the menu of fruit filled kolaches. We suggest you try the popular favorite: the Lebkuche, a thick, rectangular brown cookie covered with pink frosting. Don't forget to try our apple strudel! We look forward to seeing you soon!
