Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular
restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years.

Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous
Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and
hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building.
Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the
restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried
steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish
and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge
pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack
Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine
list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.

The location of the Gristmill is perfect and in many places that might mean the food is mediocre, but not here. Everything I've had on their menu is outstanding and to this day I've never had better spinach artichoke dip. Service is always great as well, but the atmosphere with the live music... read more

Very attentive young waitress. Had delicious Trout, yellow and green squash and green beans. All very tasty. Also had a cheeseburger that was tasty too. $32 plus tip. Large portions of the vegetables. Free soft drink refills.

The food is very good but there is no air in the restaurant. You can also sit out by the river and it is not as hot. This restaurant is in the middle of the action.

We have gone to the Gristmill a couple of times each year, and have enjoyed the food, the great view, especially if you sit outside. They have very friendly, and courteous staff. I recommend the ribs, the green beans, their hamburgers. Everything is delicious.

A small town with tons of history and Gristmill restaurant is extremely delicious with friendly staff. Plus everything is off the Guadalupe River. A nice place to visit

a favorite spot for both locals and tourists! Good food (Burgers are classics!) and good drinks. A great spot on a beautiful afternoon to enjoy the outdoor seating but cozy by the fireplaces indoors when the weather is chilly
