Lots of space for our group of 13! Wait staff was amazing, will be back! Good food... it looks as good as it tastes!

The entire menu looked delicious, but a friend recommended their burgers. I understand why—undoubtedly one of the top 5 burgers I’ve ever eaten. It was a busy Saturday afternoon—would love to return mid-week sometime and so could have a river view table. Rustic, historic decor...More

The restaurant is a very interesting place to visit. I would advise walking around the whole restaurant and looking at the whole thing. It is interesting where you can see the old mill walls and how they added on to it. As far as the...More

We were visiting Gruene with a friend from out-of-state. We had a great meal at the Gristmill - drinks were good, ribs were awesome, service was great too!

A warm winter day overlooking the Guadalupe River in an historic building with wonderful food! We had the tenderloin salad and our cousin had the tenderloin sandwich. We enjoyed every bite. Waitress was very friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend.

The Gristmill used to be a wonderful representation of Texas situated on the Guadalupe River in iconic, historic Gruene. Friendly and rustic, filled with Texan fare. This is not the case anymore. The restaurant is always crowded, but I don't fault them for that. However,...More

On Black Friday we went down to see some music and decided to eat dinner. The wait wasn't that long. We ate on the back patio area. Our server was friendly. Food was a step above average. My husband got the Guadalupe, which is chop...More

Our family went on 12/29/18, and after finding parking in the convenient, free parking lot across the street, we checked in at Gristmill, where we were told that it would be a 60-70 minute wait. It was very cold that day, but the waiting area...More

There is a lot of shade trees, tables with umbrellas, and if you want to sit inside, there are ceiling fans. To cool off enjoy a margarita, beer, or tall glass of iced tea.

I saw grilled food items and veggies as well, I'm sure if you let the server know they can try to accommodate.

Description
Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years. Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building. Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.
