It’s worth a visit for the atmosphere and views. The chalkboard waitlist in the wide open waiting area let’s you wet your whistle while listening to live music on busy nights. The ancient front facade and the barnboard interior set a great mood, but the...More

We never pass through Gruene without eating at The gristmill. If you get there during peak hours prepare to wait but there is usually outside entertainment & of course a bar. Never had a bad meal here & we’ve had everything from turkey sandwiches to...More

I always enjoy going to gristmill for a meal. The food is good at a good price. Overlooking the river is nice, and Gruene is still ok. Getting a little over run as a tourist hot spot but I avoid weekends and busy times so...More

The Gristmill is an open air restaurant on the river in Greene, Tx, just outside of New Braunfels. We have been on a hot day in May, but this is a whole different experience in cooler, Fall weather. Enjoy a cold beer from the bar,...More

The place was super crowded, but we lucked out by being given a table in the back section of the restaurant, with a very nice view of the outside...It was very hot but we had a fan over head, windows wide open! The food was...More

Wonderful view of the river. Great food, very attentive waiter. Good experience. We also had a service dog along and were treated in a welcome manner (which is not true everywhere).

We had a large party (14) and surprise that we got seated fairly quick (sat outdoors & Friday evening). We started with appetizers and the onion rings........whoa, good and large order. Everyone got something different from steaks, salads, hamburgers and chicken fried steak. Food was...More

There is a lot of shade trees, tables with umbrellas, and if you want to sit inside, there are ceiling fans. To cool off enjoy a margarita, beer, or tall glass of iced tea.

I saw grilled food items and veggies as well, I'm sure if you let the server know they can try to accommodate.

Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular
restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years.

Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous
Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and
hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building.
Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the
restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried
steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish
and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge
pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack
Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine
list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.
