This little restaurant was a delightful find on my last visit. The quaint German ambiance is immediate as you step through the front door. The food is delicious! Our waitress was friendly and informative about menu choices. This was a wonderful find for us .
The food was phenomenal. Very pleased with the portions and the taste of the food. Not to mention the hospitality. We were traveling through New Braunfels stopped for lunch. After lunch our motorcycle wouldn’t start. The owner Steve went out of his way to help...us fix the bike. Providing tools and videos to assist. I highly recommend this place. We will visit again. Thank you Steve!More
We just ate at Alpine Haus last night for the first time and LOVED IT! Our server Lexie was a delight and was terrific about guiding food choices and beer choices from their EXTENSIVE and excellent selection (they also have a terrific wine list.) I...did not know a creamy mushroom soup could be so complex and delicious, and the spaetzle with gravy was the best I have ever had. If you are looking for a change from your regular dining choices, give Alpine Haus a try and you will be as happy as we were!!More
This was my first visit to Alpine Haus but not the last. If you want authentic German food this is the place to go. I ordered the Veal Wiener Schnitzel with Potato Dumplings, Red Cabbage, and Sweet Iced Tea. The schnitzel was prepared in the...German style, cooked perfectly, and delicious. There were two potato dumplings which were large and delicious! The red cabbage was cooked so I didn't eat it. The sweet tea was perfect. The service was friendly and timely. The prices are what you would expect at this type of restaurant. Parking is off-street and limited.More
service and food ok. received salad and dinner plate. tasted good. 1 hour later sicker than a dog after leaving restaurant. food poisoned, which we have not had in 10 to 20 years. cooks must of touched salad with meat. It took 2 days to...feel better from fever, chills, and all night in the bathroom.More
My boyfriend wanted authentic German food, for his birthday, after being stationed in Germany 4 different times for a total of 14 years. This year we went to the Alpine Haus. The service is 5 star all the way. Our server Dio was excellent, he...made sure we had everything we needed. The Manager Marie, was extremely nice and made us feel welcome and the owner Steve is just an awesome person. I will never go to any other German restaurant to eat. The food was very authentic and the experience took me back to being stationed in Germany myself. Great atmosphere and attention to detail. I can’t say enough positive things about this great little place. Go soon and often.More
My oh My - delicious. The baked bries came with ham, bread, butter, and sauces. Enough for 4! Two of the ladies stated the fried mushrooms were the best they had eaten. All entres were huge and delicious. This is an outstanding choice for german...food. Desserts chef there Tuesday. This is a great choice.More
This is for sure the best German food I’ve ever had! Seriously! Tucked away just off of the main road, the restaurant is in a historic home that really sets the stage for a hearty meal in an old world setting. We ordered Jägerschnitzel and...the beef goulash. Truly delicious. Perfectly cooked and right from the kitchen to the table, nice and hot. A fine selection of German beers too. White table cloths. Friendly, helpful staff. Thoroughly enjoyed this treasure!More
Two of us had dinner on July 9. It was really good and perhaps better than other German restaurants further west. We started with great asparagus soup. My date had the veal snitzel. I had the veal jager snitzel. Both were outstanding and highly recommended....To go boxes were a must. Very good wine list, no dessert on weekends 😋More
Took an excursion from San Antonio just to sample the German food in New Braunfels. Having had some great German food in different parts of Germany my wife and I could not have been more pleased. I had the Jager Schnintzel with red cabbage. Ausgezeichnet!...Best gravy ever! She had the Reuben Sandwich and German Potato Salad. Of course, I has a taste. Tastiest Reuben ever! Lots of lean meat. Perfect. Better than any Reuben we've ever had. In Germany or America. Portions were great. Wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend.More
This was my first visit to Alpine Haus, and I was greatly impressed. The restaurant is near downtown New Braunfels, and is in a home-like setting. There are German decorations, pictures, and food, of course! The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the...German beer was top-of-the-line. I highly recommend!More
Food was good. service was good although there were only 4 tables in use. I have not seen a plate charge in quite some time; the $ 7.50 plate charge was certainly off-putting
Sometimes you have to visit a business and makeup your own minds. We visited this place because my husband wanted us to experience a German restaurant ambiance and food. The waitress that served us lacked customer service skills. We reached out to the restaurant after...arriving home from our vacation and discussed the service we had received. The manager stated clearly there was nothing they could do to make up the visit without the owner’s permission. So she left a message for the owner to call us back. Which today he did. To our surprise he was rude and condescending and stated “after digesting the food we had buyers remorse “. He even said it’s like calling the McDonalds owner and saying we didn’t like the fries. That we are wasting his time. Wow! Never did we get an apology for our experience or any empathy about the experience we had. This waitress was rude and lacked people skills. My husband tried asking her what she recommended off the menu, and her response was “why do you care what I like”? Only afterwards to make a suggestion and follow up with “are you happy now”? I have never experienced this type of service. We felt it was due to our skin color as sadly as that may sound. Only for the restaurant owner to call and act a little worse than the waitress. He said customers “don’t pay for service”. We paid a bit over $160 for a bad experience. I won’t advise against going, but for that experience I could have gone to Dick’s instead and had a better experience. Both my husband and I have worked in customer service and have never encountered an owner that doesn’t care about the experience of his paying customers. Just be warned that they care about the revenue, not the customers. Someone should tell them that the customers are what keeps a business successful. We will never step foot in this establishment again. Our children were present and did not deserve to feel this type of treatment.More
This restaurant is a family operation that is a real gem. The Alpine Haus is set back from the road in a home built only a few decades after Texas was born. The menu was very nice with appetizers and athetic German entres. The fried...brie was amazingly tasty. The bread accompaning the brie was marbled and oh so tasty. The sour entrees were large and super delicious. We really enjoyed the red cabbage and other sides.More
