Always enjoy this home town diner! Lots of menu selections and always very good. Only problem is, it's hard to decide on what to order and which piece of pie to choose! The best onion strings we've ever eaten! Never a disappointment!

This restaurant was highly recommended by locals with the pie being a standout. They were so right! We were driving thru so picked up and order of pie curbside. I was impressed with the Jay Cafe's COVID policies to protect both staff and customers. Very...nice delivery service to the car with masked staff. Based on this experience, I will put this restaurant on my return list. The aroma from the kitchen was wonderful.More

Couldn't be worse. Only those who haven't traveled and actually had good food would think this ok. Stay away

My husband and I have passed this place several times without stopping but found that we needed to find a place to stop for lunch a few weeks ago. This place has really good food and the service was very good. The chicken sandwich I...had was very good and filling My husband had the peanut butter pie and said it was very close to the one I make which means it was very good because he is really picky about his peanut butter pie. He likes a little chocolate and a lot of peanut butter. All in all, worth the stop. As this place is typically about 45 minutes away, we have not driven there just to eat but will take that drive every now and then from now on.More

We had a delicious meal and and learned they have different recipes for these chicken dishes. Everything we’ve had here is great! The servers are friendly, the food is freshly made and tasty, and a pie or cobbler is a great way to finish your...meal. Try a hot cobbler À la mode with Blue Bell ice cream! Definitely worth a side trip into the town of Needville!More

The Jay Café was recommended by a friend. I happened to be in the area and decided to stop in. What I discovered was the absolute best chicken fried steak I have ever tasted. If that was not enough, I tried the peach cobbler. It...is a must. Great café with great food and friendly staff. I highly recommend the dishes above.More

My Wife and I were there last night and brought along our son and his family. We have come here many times in the past with everything being good. Extremely busy, so I expected a wait. It took almost 1 hour to get our food......But...to my surprise, the waiter put down my plate in front of me and I couldn't believe what I got....I had ordered the fried chicken, 1 breast and 1 leg. What I got was 2 wings!!!!!!! No prior mention that they were out of the fried chicken. So after waiting almost an hour I got 2 wings!. The waiter didn't even mention anything wrong with my order untiI I told the waiter this is not what I ordered. I didn't want to cause a scene in front of family and in the restaurant, so the plate was left in front of me. If I did order something else, this would have been another wait.....This is unacceptable.....They should have advised me long before my order was even prepared so I could order something else.....BTW my wife got the same thing. I will return, but it will take me awhile to get over this.....More

My wife and I routinely made two or three trips a month from Alvin to eat at the Jay Cafe. We went twice in June and both times the size of the of the Big Tex Chicken Fried Steak and the chicken breast were very...small .. The last time we thought we had been given childs plates the portions were so small. Not up to the usual standard. Also it is difficult to get the waitress to bring any dinner rolls. We normally only want one each but sometimes I think we have to beg for even that. Overall we like the food and the staff is pleasant. The place is always clean, but we won't go back because of the portion issues.More

Fried country food...chicken fried chicken was ok, white gravy was gloppy and not seasoned; fried okra was great; onion fries were tasty but greasy. Peach cobbler was good, lots of peaches; apple pie was stacked apples in pie crust, still a bit crisp, not saucy....The best part of the visit was reading the servers’ T-shirts, for example “ I’m into fitness...fitness PIE into my mouth!” 😂More
