We vacation in Istria almost every year so I am always looking for new places and experiences. Konoba Toklarija was wonderful in every way. Just driving and finding it was an experience in itself. Once we arrived, the tavern seemed like it was out of the pages of an old fairly tale book. So beautiful. There were 4 of us... More

A ‘slow food place’. A small but chick ‘konoba’ situated in the middle of Istrian nowhere. Romantic garden with two ancient Lebanese cedars and perfectly maintained lawn. They serve six courses of typically Istrian dishes. No menu card available. Dishes are orthodox but very well presented, prepared of high quality ingredients. Good service. A braver use of spices and a... More

We saw a couple of reviews of this restaurant and decided we had to go on our visit to Istria. If we hadn't heard about it in advance, there is no way you would just 'stumble' across it as it is in a tiny town of half a dozen houses down small roads in the middle of nowhere. But what... More

This small hidden gem is one of the best taverns in Istria and Croatia. Be sure to make a reservation but no due to crowd but as it might not be open if you come unannounced. The food is great, but be prepared the meal is going to take several hours.

We came to the tavern Toklarija almost by accident, because we have the memory of one of the friends asked for a restaurant with local Istrian cuisine and finally stumbled upon this excellent, charming restaurant who for years served slow-food style cuisine When asked how much time do we have we were lucky that the owner, who that day was... Beautiful location, great slow food - a memorable experience. Until you get invoice, which makes you wonder if the abnormally high price is really worth all the pretending...

After the hubub of too many tourists in another hilltown we called to ask for a reservation and were invited to come at our leisure. The drive itself is an experience on narrow winding roads and lovely quiet countryside. The unassuing restaurant just appears out of nowhere. As soon as you enter the warm inviting space with low lights and... More

Konoba Toklarija is absolute perfection. We made a lunch reservation on a Tuesday afternoon (easy and quick to do via email). We arrived to have the restaurant totally to ourselves and the most attentive waiter. We sat in a cozy stone room and were served a delicious six course meal, with warm bread, three different wines, and a shot of... More

One of the best meals I have ever had. The setting alone makes the visit worthwhile. The restaurant is run by a father / son duo. The father is the chef and creates a new menu each week based on items he is able to source from his garden and through friends . There is a warmth yet elegance to... More
