We chose this restaurant for a late lunch after visiting El Escorial. The restaurant is very nice, with lots of wines exposed (they have a reserve of almost 28k bottles of Rioja) and with rather formal, old-type waiters/personel. All waiters were very nice but the best were the food and especially the house Rioja excellent reserve wine they proposed us.... More

Charoles is one of my favourite restaurants in the world. Its old fashioned meat-centric Spanish cooking and ambience. The portions are very large, be careful if you are tempted to order a starter as well as a main course; consider sharing a main if there are two of you. Today I had stuffed calves cheeks, which was a rich and... More

Great beef rib eye steak you should try if you are meat lover. The interiors are not impressive however in old Spanish style but certainly the taste is there. I was there unfortunately in the late autumn so could not seat in the patio. Very professional and focus on customer staff especially waiters. People who work there are only with... More

We were running late for lunch. Charoles seemed to be a good option since you can read at its entrance that the kitchen is open all day long. Besides, the restaurant manager kept us informed on when we would seated. Whilst you choose/wait for your food, they offer little appetisers. And food is tasty and nicely presented. Also after you... The restaurant is very expensive for what you get. The location is good and the restaurant atmosphere is great but the meal is just average. The menu is not extensive and most plates try to innovate but they don't make it.

I visit Escorial yearly and many of my friends have come here +15 years. For years I have heard stories of how good Charoles is, but also warnings that it is expensive. Because of the hype I finally decided to visit the place. Atmosphere and surroundings are fantastic and service is also good though the wait staff doesnt really speak... More

We went for a Sunday lunch. Ignored on arrival. Seated downstairs by an offhand waiter. Primeros were roasted capsicum and bacalao salad and bean and clam stew. Stew was flavoursome. Capsicum full of seeds and bacalao a bit dry. Too much roasted garlic slivers scattered over the plate. Secundos was solomillo of beef with truffles and chestnuts - rare, as... More

We had lunch today after a while not coming to this restaurant. There are places that are a sure bet and this one is a good example. Superb food based on excellent ingredients and cooking, not cheap but you know what you get is worth the price. Tried this time cecina, tasty, very thin cut, a bit too oily perhaps... More

Last Saturday we went as a group (6 people) for luch. Sat in the terrace ....weather was good and pleasant. Starters were ample and good and the steak to follow was superb. Wine list ample and not too expensive. I did think the restaurant was on the expensive side.
