Hidden gem in El Escorial

The secret of El Paseo is lunch. You are offered a three course meal with wine and water for €14 per person. The appetizers ranged from an excellent salad, to fish and meat dishes. Main courses were equally tasty and desert was wonderful. Best of all, this restaurant is somewhat hard to find... read more

Excellent service, with very good entrees. I went there twice as I was extremely satisfied with my very first experience. It was by far the best restaurant I visited during my week stay in Spain. I strongly recommend the chocolate cake!

We went with friends last sunday and I can't be happier! The menu is great and gives you very different alternatives. The rice with "bogavante" is delicious, and the "pulpo asado con verduritas" an excellent way of starting a perfect meal with friends. It is not so easy to find, it is in a pedestrian path next to the Palace's... More

This was the first time I’ve used TripAdvisor to do cold research by location. We were going to visit Phillip II’s Palace, the Monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial and wanted to find a place for lunch. Thanks to TripAdvisor contributors (especially uwman, Laurel, Maryland) we discovered El Paseo, although it was not so easy. Our GPS did not recognise... More

An outstanding find. Places near the Monastery of San Lorenzo look pretty touristy. This is a bit of a walk, down a dirt road with steel gutters, down toward the train station. It looked closed when we got there, with no customers visible. But they were all inside the nicely air-conditioned dining room. We easily got a table, but an... More

The place has a great atmosphere and the waiters are nice and polite. The food is great - definetly better than most Spanish tapas places. Nice and peaceful - do try it ;-)

El Paseo is on a quiet pathway, opposite a walled woodland just below Philip II's enormous palace/monastery in this wonderful corner of the country, near Madrid, abutting the mountains and always with clean air and cooler temperatures than the capital. The restaurant looks like so many traditional restaurants but there is magic here -- the waiters are friendly, knowledgeable and... More
