City market is one of the best bbq places i have been in Texas. Their ribs are incredible. We were driving past and decided to stop not knowing if they were open. The dining room was closed but they set up a table outside to...take orders. It was cash only which was totaled when they gave you the meat. If you have limited cash, you have to estimate your cost. Still i prefer to pay when you get meat, rarher than pay first and wait for the really slow cuter to serve you. Yes, gaitl*n, i am talking about you! The wait was about ten to fifteen minutes which is was about a third of last wait time. The bbq itself was outstanding. Just like i remember.More

Their brisket, bbq sauce and beans are the best in the area. They offer only 3 sides, beans, cole slaw, and potatoe salad because they major focus is there meat. If you want to come enjoy their great food, bring cash!

Don't bother to go to City Market BBQ if they are just offering takeout! We visited at 1:00 on a Monday, and the order line outside was short and efficient. The wait was minimal (10 minutes?), but the food did not live up to the...hype and ratings. We ordered 1/2 lb of brisket, two ribs, and a link of sausage plus beans (only other side available is potato salad), and two ice teas. First of all, they really messed up the order: no pinto beans, sweet ice tea instead of unsweet (they specifically came out to ask what I wanted), and most important - NO barbecue sauce......now who wants barbecue without sauce??? By the time the errors were discovered, we were sitting at our picnic table at Zegler Mill (lovely place). We are from Austin and expect good barbecue when rated, but the brisket and ribs were not exceptional, especially without sauce! Also BEWARE, the Trip Advisor menu and website for Original City Market BBQ takes you to the LULING Barbecue menu and website which is totally different....maybe we should have tried them!More

Original City Market is still delicious and Classic after all these years. With so many of the new spots pushing Bark (which often means burned), having a Brisket with a balanced dry rub, good smoke, and good char is a welcome relief. The Brisket is...delicious. Pork Ribs are so tender and just fall off of the bone. The vinegar- based sauce is delicious. Classic sides. Creamy Potato Salad and dense Smokey Pinto Beans. Cash only. Texas Dining Area. A Winner!More

Amazing Barbeque. Great atmosphere and most authentic bbq you can get in Texas. I would recommend the beef brisket sandwich but anything here is good (chicken is great). Very high quality meats. It was a stark contrast from the fatty yucky meat we had at...the tourist filled Goodies Barbeque to this amazing restaurant here in Luling. Could not recommend this restaurant more. 10/10More

Still the best ribs in Texas!! Under new mgmt, and tried several methods to increase sales! Came back to what made them famous. Good food at reasonable prices......and the ribs are still the best in Texas!!

Is it good, you ask? I went back and dropped another $20 for seconds. I feel like the fat “one thin mint” guy from Monty Python right now. This place is a slice of Americana - not a restaurant, not a truck stop, not a...market. More like going to a picnic at your Cousin Ernie’s. You walk thru the secret door in the back into the kitchen. No menu. Ribs, brisket, sausage. “How much do you want? You want a Dill pickle with that?” Absolutely! I feel like I just committed a felony. Highly recommended.More

It's always worth a stop to get the best, authentic Texas BBQ anywhere. The atmosphere, simplicity, and authenticity of this place can't be beaten. Whenever I have people from out of state or other countries visiting, this is the place I take them. Well worth...the 2 h drive from the coast!More

This is an excellent, old fashioned BBQ. We stopped by at 5:00 to have their delicious brisket, but they were already sold out. We decided to try the ribs and sausage. The ribs were some of the best we've ever had. They were moist, tender,...fall off the bone delicious. The sausage rings were also very good. This is a must try for BBQ fans.More

Yes, it was indicated on the price board on our last visit. I don't remember the exact price, but thought it looked like a good deal.
