We thought we'd try out the Holman Valley Steakhouse as we had never been. We arrived at 5:15 on a Saturday night. The first thing they asked was whether or not we had reservations to which I replied that we didn't. I told them I had tried to call the number they published but no one answered. They told us they were all filled up but then said they would check. They ended up seating us in a pretty much empty restaurant. We ordered the "two in one" appetizer which allowed up to get both fried mushrooms and onion rings. We loved both of them. My husband ordered the porterhouse steak and I ordered the chicken fried steak. Although the menu didn't show it you got either a salad or soup in addition to two sides. I was excited to get the salad but it turned out to be a small amount of lettuce with one cherry tomato. Sad. My husband got the chicken noodle soup which came out in the smallest bowl I've ever seen. I like my chicken fried steak although the crust came off the thin steak which was not good. My husband's porterhouse was absolutely huge and he took most of it home. At home, he ran into a lot of fat and gristle which he weighed out to be 5 oz of the 20 oz steak not taking into account the bone. (My dog loved that bone!) I ordered a slice of carrot cake to go. Man, that was one good piece of cake. When we left, the restaurant was still quite empty. I don't think we'll be back. Our waitress was very attentive and great!

Very nice local restaurant! The service was very attentive and the food was good. Beer and wine available and several appetizers. Had the chicken fried steak and it didn’t disappoint. This will be a definite return to place.

Excellent food, service was great, and a nice country ambience. I am always excited to find a new restaurant that measures up with the quality of their food and service. We will definitely be back!

Ordered the dinner special 8 oz sirloin and 2 shrimp. Ordered medium rare came out well done. Sent it back. Waited over 15 minutes for replacement steak. Came out almost raw and had so much gristle and muscle couldn’t even cut through half of the steak. Most of it went in a doggie bag for our friends dog because that’s all it was good for. I believe they chose the worst steak they had in retaliation since I sent my first steak back. Won’t be returning

We were a group of eight. Some had steak and some had chicken fried steak. Everyone loved their food and would go back!

Excellent chicken fried steak and a nice wine selection, including Houston Rodeo winning local Whistling Duck wine.

We go often. It's always good, always friendly and never loud (like those hideous places in Austin). Don't miss the desserts.

Holman steakhouse is a good, basic country café. Food is consistent. Service is good. Have never been disappointed. Somewhat in the middle of no where, but usually have good crowds.

I am always surprised that the food, service and atmosphere of a small, country restaurant could compete with that of the better restaurants in Houston or Dallas. I never can finish my meals here and always get a to-go box for lunch the next day. Now, they have started having music and other entertainment in the area in back. They say that Willie Nelson played there years ago. It is worth a stop. Get the Joe's burger with chicken instead of beef if you want a good meal for the road. Or stop and get their fried shrimp and a piece of pie for desert. Very nice.

All of the dishes are good, as are the sides. I love the Joe’s Burger, seafood (the shrimp are big and fresh), the chicken fried steak, salad of the sides. I get a desert to take home. The people are sooo nice. It is a real treasure.

The food here is excellent. I ordered the seafood platter and couldn't eat all of it. Shrimp, catfish, stuffed crab, spinach au gratin, and stuffed mashed potatoes. No room for dessert.

My wife and I rode out to the Holman Valley Steakhouse on a Friday night to try it for the first time. The owner, the waitress and staff were all extremely nice, but the quality of the steaks were not equal to the pricing. The steaks were cooked properly but were tough and small when compared to the $24 pricing.

This restaurant, located in the community of Holman, is a short drive from a couple of larger towns , La Grange and Weimer, and certainly worth it and you get to see some wonderful country scenery! The old favorite, chicken fried steak is great, as well as grilled chicken and all the sides are excellent. But be sure to save room for dessert...they have several awesome choices!!! Check the small blackboard.

Went for a day road trip with no plans really except to visit antique shops in Brenham, and on the way home we stopped in the parking lot of the courthouse-town square in La Grange but like most small towns, it seemed quiet and most places closed after 5:30 pm. So I began reading restaurant reviews on TripAdvisor, as my husband scanned the restaurants on our car's app, & he had wanted steak, as I was about to give up saying all I saw was BBQ or Mexican, he said look up this place, and decided to try Holman Valley and SO GLAD that we did!! Yes it is a little out of the way but worth it if you have the time and are not in a rush to get somewhere. We had the sausage & sauerkraut balls- they were so good. I had never heard of them, and since I like sauerkraut I had to try them. The sauerkraut is not overpowering at all. Delightful & served with a touch of spicy mustard. The dinner salads come with a bread basket - bread sliced in spears of sorts with a touch of garlic only, not saturated with butter nor oil! I put their ranch dressing on them! Yum. I had the Holman Valley chicken- a mid sized breast with melted white cheese, sautéed spinach & sliced mushrooms. Moist and a nice flavor. Squash casserole was ok, just seemed like something was missing from it some seasoning or ? And steamed broccoli in which I put their house ranch dressing on, so good! My husband had the ribeye steak and he said it was the best he has ate in a long time! We had the mudslide (warm oversized brownie with ice cream, a touch of whipped cream & drizzled with caramel sauce.) Pretty good! We would definitely go back to eat here if ever in the area again!
