My family and I decided to take a little trip to Kerrville for the day and saw that Rails was a highly recommended place to eat! We didn't have a reservation but were immediately seated. The service was very good/very attentive. We were all really pleased with our entrees, but by far dessert was the best. Our waitress brought out a large display of different cakes, cookies, tortes, and homemade ice cream! We were very full from our main courses, but after seeing the inviting dessert tray we decided to order two pieces of cake: Red Velvet and Brownie Turtle Torte. The Brownie Turtle Torte was absolutely amazing and I recommend this to everyone that chooses to eat here!

This is a smaller venue having been a small railroad depot in early life, so do not expect to get in for dinner without reservations on a weekend. The menu is not extensive but everything is quite a bit better than average, fairly unique and well prepared. The main courses are all tasty and reasonable size portions, but it is the deserts that are overwhelming so save room. In the warm season, patio seating is very pleasant.

We had lunch here and it was fabulous! I had the Shrimp Fettucini Alfredo and I have never tasted any better. Desserts from the bakery next door are not to be missed so save room for dessert.
If you want to eat at peak lunch or dinner hours you might want to make a reservation.

Heard good things but not our experience. Started with Spanakopita and that was good. Mahi Mahi Tacos had a runny pink sauce, tortillas fell apart. Came with some chopped tomato, canned black beans and feta cheese In the bottom 10 of fish tacos in my experience. Penne Quail Palermo was bland. Quail overcooked and only tasted of char. Tomato sauce was mediocre. My wife took one bite and didn't want a second. Server was inattentive and asked ZERO questions when told the quail was not good. Skip this and try somewhere else. We won't go back.

The atmosphere here is comfortable and relaxed. I love the tin ceilings. Our steak salad was good, the steak cooked perfectly and not overdressed but we were not impressed with our main course. We both had the Filet of Salmon & Sautéed Shrimp. We asked the salmon be cooked medium but it came out way overcooked for me. The shrimp tasted poached and overly salty. The lemon sauce on top was a bit too thick and tasted like a lemony cream gravy. We did enjoy the veggies and they were cooked perfectly. The bread was fresh and came with a nice fruity olive oil. The desserts looked wonderful but we passed. If we come again, we will stick with salads.

My wife and I had dinner at Rails. Nice ambience in an old rail depot. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Service was good but not excellent. I had a Caprese salad followed by Salmon and Shrimp entree. My wife had a cup of the soup followed by a Chicken Avocado Salad. She asked for one of the ingredients to be omitted due to a health issue and the waiter said it was not a problem. However when the salad was served the ingredient was on the salad. She asked the waiter to correct it and he was very apologetic and gracious about the mistake. But it took a long time for the salad to be presented in the correct manner. Made for kind of a long dinner with each of us watching the other eat.

We didn’t know what to expect. Referred by a family new to Kerrville. There is no attention to detail left undone when it come food. Farm to Table style restaurant. We both chose salads for lunch because we were eating a little later. Perfection! The serving of Strawberry Bacon Spinach Salad, with baby spinach, strawberries, bacon, feta, pomegranate vinaigrette, grilled chicken breast. Makes the others I have had similar are not to par with how the Rails serves. The spinach was delightfully tasty. My husband had the Chicken Avocado Salad
spring mix, avocado, tomato, red onion, queso fresco, black beans, spicy ranch, grilled chicken breast. The blend of selections for this salad was refreshing and hearty for my man. We enjoyed so much we decided to forgo our original dinner plans and come back for dinner.

Rails is a fabulous little restaurant with great atmosphere and great staff. I thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of stepping back into the days when trains were the transportation center and people gathered to say goodbye and welcome home excited travelers. Fabulous job on capturing the train stop feel.
I did however feel like the food was just a notch lower than it ought to be. The osso bucco, one of the recommended dishes, fell short with gravy that tasted like it was too thick and out of a jar. It didn’t taste homemade. However, the salad with the house dressing, and the iced lemon cake with blueberries kept me smiling and happy. Reasonable prices. Great service. I’ll go back!

We wanted to try this restaurant and finally did for an early lunch during the week for a birthday.
The inside has four small rooms with table seating and there is also an outdoor open area with table seating. Some areas are more shaded than others.
In this small complex there is also a sweets shop and some other business as well as a large building for events.
We were seated and waited on immediately and all the staff was very nice and efficient.
Most tables were two and four seating.
They do have a small bar but I didn’t see seating for it.
They have a selective menu with appetizers, salads, sandwiches, soups and main dishes.
We ordered a small cup of baked potato soup ($3.95) and it was good and cheesy.
Also we ordered a small house salad ($5.25) and the mixed greens were fresh and came with feta cheese, a wedge of tomato and some croutons.
Another ordered the Turkey Panini ($14.95) and Tropical Unsweet Tea (mango/jasmine $3.25) and it had more of a jasmine taste than mango but was refreshing.
All of the food was fresh and tasty.
The pricing is a bit high but a place like this generally is but it is a nice place for a special occasion.

We had an absolutely fantastic time here. The restaurant feels really European because of the way it's laid out. It feels like your in someone's house. The tin ceilings are really great too. Our server was lovely and really attentive, and it was great getting to meet her. It's just a really unique feeling for the Hill Country.
Okay, the food....Incredible! It is very difficult to choose what you want to eat, because it all looks amazing. It's a good reason to come back though. We had the toasted queso, a panini, and a bison burger for lunch. There are so many other incredible dishes, we went kind of traditional, but it was delicious.
They have a nice selection of wine and beer, a great patio, and it's not only worth the stop, it's worth the drive from other parts of Texas. We're coming back to town to spend a weekend just so we can eat there again. Seriously.

Talk about good eats at a train station. This place is really cute. We split an order of spanakopita, eight small phyllo pastries filled with spinach, feta and topped with South African peppadew sauce. Main course a shrimp salad with black beans and corn. Next stop or RV park for the night.
Stay hungry amigos.

We asked Siri to find a restaurant in Kerrville Texas for dinner and this came up with a 4.5 rating and we decided to give it a try. There is dining inside and out and there are heaters on the patio. Kerrville at this time of the year has not warmed up but with the heaters outside you would be fine.
the menu is extensive and we decided to opt for the salmon salads. We had fresh servings of bread and then saved room for a special chocolate cake and ice cream dessert. Everything was delicious our server was efficient and helpful and we would definitely go back.
This is one of the best restaurants in Kerrville as it turns out and has a loyal following and offers great food with specials that are different every night of the week. It is not open at all on Sunday.

We went early evening, and were immediately seated. They brought freshly baked bread, olive oil and cracked pepper, and refilled it quickly when we finished it. I ordered the Grilled Beef Tenderloin & Caramelized Onion Panini, with a side salad, which was excellent. My friend and I split a banana pudding was good, but not excellent.

Second restaurant I ate at after opening back up for full business. Great meal here. I had the Osso Bucco which was pretty incredible. I ended up getting dessert too (slice of cake) which was super moist and yummy. 5/5

With our two small grandsons in tow, we headed to the outdoor patio at Rails. The patio offers a nice sitting area away from the street. They also have indoor dining, but the weather in September was just too inviting to sit in. The restaurant used to be a functioning train depot for Kerrville.
Compared to some of the other restaurants in Kerrville that we visited on this trip, Rails has a little more upscale menu, especially with their house specialties. They do offer burgers, wraps & paninis as well. One of the little guys is pretty finicky about food, but he loved the smoked turkey sandwich.
The specialties include fish, pasta, and steaks. We opted for the artichoke chicken alfredo and salmon with shrimp. Everything was very tasty and the service was spot on.
Definitely recommend.
