We dined at Avesta for the first time last week. We came because we had heard that the food was good and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed our meal and felt that the prices were reasonable for the very generous portions. Be prepared to...take some home. The restaurant is in a strip and the atmosphere is mediocre at best. Our waitress was OK, but did not seem to understand our questions. We will return because of the food.More

I found this great restaurant with a great ambiance and delicious food... Complementary warm bread with a side of mint, feta and parsley was delicious.. the mixed kabob plate had a great presentation and very filling with very good taste, bastamati rice was as perfect..Service...is also excellent, very clean and staff was very courteous... at the end I was offered a complementary tea.. I was a very pleasant surprise to find a gem like this.. Congratulations to the owners..More

The last couple of times we have visited Avesta, I have not been as impressed as I was before. Today was no exception. First of all, the restaurant temperature is too cold. If everyone in a restaurant has kept their outerwear on, it's too cold....Secondly, the ventilation is pretty bad. Your clothing will smell, and if you have sensitive eyes, your eyes will feel a burn. Also, wish they used cloth napkins here rather than the very flimsy paper napkins. The bread and herb and cheese plate that is proved at the beginning are very tasty and fresh. Order their hummus and it is a nice way to get the meal started. The food is good, but not out of this world. Today, my son and I ordered the lamb kabobs and they were so tough and almost not edible. To make it worse, the restaurant only put in one order of the kabobs, and my son had to wait for his meal until they prepared his. It was a long wait, too. There was an apology by the waiter, but not from the manager, nor was there a price reduction. I ended up sharing my meal with my son, so by the time his meal finally arrived, he wasn't hungry anymore. Plus his lamb was so tough, he couldn't cut it. My husband usually has the fish kabobs and he enjoyed them. The tea is nice, and there is a large selection of food option on the menu. I doubt that we will be going back anytime soon.More

I was first told about this place by a colleague I work with and they suggested that I go. I really wasn’t sure about the Persian food or even what order once I got there and I really don’t like going to the new place...without somebody who has experience or knows about foods. So to be honest I would prefer to go with the eight person that is a Persian origin. So against my better judgment I went and sat down at a table the staff was extremely friendly I was greeted promptly. When I was greeted they brought me a warm tea and also bread and hummus. I ended up getting a beef kebab with basmati rice. tell my surprise the food was absolutely amazing they was great flavor to the food I was highly highly impressed with the presentation and with the staff an owner who came by at even greet me while I was sitting there waiting for my food. The owner was a super nice guy very friendly and cares about his business it clearly shows that he wants to have the best product out there.More

I will first write about the menu item I ordered - the stew with boneless chicken breast with pomegrenate flavors etc. It came in a bowl full of grey colored gravy with 2 chunks of chicken breast swimming in it. On a separate plate is...basmati rice. Totally unappetizing in presentation. The interplay of flavors (almonds, pistachios and pomegrenates was interesting but were drowned by the yukky presentation of the dish. I was thinking they could just have grilled the chicken and served on a bed of greens with crushed almonds and pomegrenate seeds to add zest and have a specil gravy on the side. The other dishes were presented in similar bad way. My family said their food was delicious but They just looked haphazardly served.More

Went to Avesta with a co worker for dinner one night on a business trip. The place is about medium sized and nicely decorated. Wait staff was extremely fast and informative when asked any questions. Now let me get right down to it - HOUSTON...!! WHY IS THIS PLACE NOT IN THE TOP 10 in the WHOLE CITY ????? Steaks ? BBQ - Nah - you need to go to this place ASAP We got the hummus with bread - Oh lord the bread - yes I am dreaming of the bread as I write this ! Beyond amazing and hot and it just keeps coming !! I got a chicken kabob, beef kabob and the special rice with cherries and nuts in it - yes I said cherries and nuts - Seems like they are sautéed - well - however they are done it just rocks!!!! My co worker got the lamb which literally falls right off the bone - beyond tender and filling. If you are in town and miss this place - the mistake is on you ! And if you live in Houston and haven't been here - WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR ??? Avesta I will be back for sure !!More

Friends were in from out of town and I gave them choices of three totally different restaurants, French, Persian and Mexican. They wanted to try this one. We ordered a hummus appetizer. It was a bit runny as it dripped off the dipping bread. Lacked...a nice hint of garlic, too. The Chenjeh Shish Kabob was excellent. Cherries in with the rice and the meat was extremely tender. I thought the service was a bit green...young man asked if we were ready 3 times in less than 10 minutes once we were seated. We finally asked him to give us at least another 10 - 15 minutes, yet he returned before that time. Overall the food was good and the prices were very good. i like Persian food so I will return.More

We are very happy with this place. The food is EXCELLENT and the ingredients are noticeably fresh and flavorful. We visited at a very busy lunch time. The waitstaff while extremely busy was fast and friendly. The gentleman bussing the tables was even happy and...observant. Even with a lot less tables, this is our new Persian place we drive an hour to for family birthdays and such. Sadly our old standby on the otherside of BW8 let us down several times in a row after almost 8yrs of visits. Win win for us as we hadn't noticed how far the old places food had slipped until Avesta raised the expectations.More

Small, nicely appointed Persian restaurant off of busy Westheimer outside the beltway. I think this is a new space for the restaurant. It's very nice inside, and I love the soft jazz in the background. Food is all good. Absolutely no complaints. They start the...meal with a plate of basil, radishes, parsley, and goat cheese. This is accompanied by hot bread. I usually also get hummus to start. Their hummus is the thin type, which I enjoy. Both the chicken, beef, and lamb dishes are good. I have not had the seafood. They serve the meal with a huge portion of white rice. I ask for half salad and half rice (which I don't eat). There is an up charge for this. Worth it, as the salads are quality and large. The rice is tasty, but I just choose not to eat it.The restaurant is quiet and has a nice vibe. My only complaint is that they have very small, thin paper napkins, rather than cloth. I do wish they would offer cloth! In summary, great food, good ambiance, chintzy napkins :)More
