To be fair, I spent almost 3 years in Germany in the military so had the advantage and pleasure of enjoying "authentic" German food. I live in the Houston area and have been searching for that wonderful "authentic" German cooking style, but alas to no...avail and this restaurant is no exception. In fact, I have to say I am stunned at all of the positive reviews Rudi Lechner's has received. I ordered the Jagerschnitzel with an extra helping of Spaetzle (my favorite buttery German dish). What I received was what LOOKED like spaetzle (other than the orangish/yellow color), but was actually overcooked, mushy pasta with absolutely NO flavor. The $24.95 breaded veal cutlet (and I use the term breaded loosely) was actually a very thin and I mean thin layer of meat covered with what may or may not have been a breading. The sauce was as far from authentic as you can get and somewhat palatable (yes there were mushrooms, which was its saving Grace). The Latkes were absolutely delicious though. The music was wonderful. Now, the icing on the cake, so to speak, was the walk down a short hallway through the bar to the restrooms. I literally almost walked out at this point, the smell as you reached the restrooms was almost unbearable. It was pure and simple sewer (not someone oops and forgot to flush). The smell was pure sewage. In fact by the end of our meal, that sewage smell had begun seeping into the dining area. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of drinking too much water and had to make that hazard waste walk a second time, though this time, the bartender had the wherewithal to light a fragrant candle on the bar as you pass by. I will never visit this establishment again and will make sure my friends know that either the positive reviews were paid reviews or at the very least extremely old when perhaps Rudi Lechner's was under different management.More
