Have been coming here for so many years. It’s always good and the staff is pleasant. When I crave good Cuban food this is where I go. Strongly recommended.

Flavorful cubano sandwich was well balanced, enough meat for average eaters. Salad also good. Lots of interesting options for a larger meals. I liked the interior, lots of light and well decorated. Service excellent.

As a person of Cuban descent who grew up eating Cuban food in Miami, I was desperate for a taste of home in Houston. Cafe Piquet is a very nice location with a friendly staff. I ordered palomilla which was my dish of choice since...I was a kid. When the bread arrived I grew concerned. It was very nice sliced toasted cuban bread. What it wasn't was garlic pressed cuban bread which is what you would get at most other cuban restaurants. Then my lunch arrived and I took a bite of my black beans. Again, they were ok, but sorely lacking in the rich flavor they should have had. My steak was a quality cut, perfectly cooked, with sauteed onions, but again, lacking in flavor. If I was looking for a very good American lunch which used some Cuban ingredients I would have been 100% satisfied. But for a Cuban restaurant I have to ask, where is the garlic? Did the shipment not come in that day? Are we afraid of overwhelming the Anglos? If you've never eaten Cuban food, this place is a perfectly nice place to eat. If you want to experience true Cuban food however, look elsewhere. Cuban food should be full of flavor in every bite, and this just wasn't that experience.More

Always a pleasure to dine at this authentic Cuban restaurant. Her is what my husband and I shared. Carafe of red sangria - Leigh and fruity. Perfect for a refreshing adult beverage. Mariquitas - fresh plantain chips with a wonderful garlic sauce. We can’t eat...there without ordering these! Ropa Vieja - beautifully seasoned shredded beef with black beans and rice Ordered their famous bread pudding to go for a late night nosh.More

This is one of the best Cuban restaurants in Houston. I have lived in Miami where Cubans is authentic and this place is authentic. We had the fufu de camaróns and it was amazing. It’s plantains with shrimp. It reminded us of the mofongo from...Puerto Rico. As the entre we had the Romba with confíe and yuca frita. It was delicious. Definitely a must try in Houston!More

First off... the Congri is better than my Mama used to make, you understand? It's better. You need to ask for fresh diced white onion, but yes they somehow manage to make it better. The Pernil is so... so great. Warning: the garlic breathe afterward...is rough, but somehow worth it. If you like pork and really like garlic... taste this. The Tamal are pretty good. Their cafecitos are a must, but will really keep you going for a long will, sugar and caffeine to the extreme...but so flavorful. The Tostones are literally as close to ideal as you can get. The Flan is...no words...I literally stopped all conversation and sighed it was so good. It tasted like home. My friends has the Ropa Vieja and said it was very good and one of the soups of the day. They said the soup was really good, as well. My partner had the Picadillo... he loves it. Only main dish he orders. It's not Mama's, but it's okay. Picadillo was never made with potatoes, in our house. I didn't hate it. It just wasn't as good as Mama's. The Empanadas were decent. My favorite place when I want to feel loved through food, but don't want to cook it myself. ;)More

I dined at this restaurant for lunch with four co-workers, 3 of whom had never had Cuban food and they enjoyed it. The portions are very generous especially for the price. My coworker ordered the plantain chips appetizer, and we ended up getting a huge...sampler that included 4 Croquetas, 2 Tamales, 2 Empanadas, 2 Papas Rellenas, Mariquitas. It was a surprise to us, and she paid for it so I didn't realize how much it was until I looked it up on the restaurant's site for inclusion here. It was $24.75. Not bad if splitting the bill, but may be pricey for just 2 people. There is a smaller option for $12.99. Honestly not sure which of the two we ended up with, but based on what was included, I'd say it was the large (see attached picture for reference, but keep in mind we had already started eating before picture was taken.) I have eaten my good share of Cuban food and consider it my best cuisine (outside of my cultural food) so consider this review from a savvy Cuban food eater. If you can afford to try the sampler mentioned above, try it. Everything was amazing. And they came out hot too. Full disclosure, I've been to this restaurant on a date with my then boyfriend (now husband) who had never had Cuban food, and wasn't pleased with the taste. I wasn't expecting a lot from my experience, but I was impressed. I ordered the Whole fried Red Snapper, which is listed at market price. Well it cost $35, which is pricey for a lunch, but I really wanted fish and didn't want filet. This is my only negative, that there aren't enough selections to choose from, compared to my favorite Cuban Restaurant in Montclair, N.J., but I don't hold that against them. At least the food tasted great. My food came with a generous portion of Congri (black rice and beans) and mixed vegetables. I took more than half of it home, which still tasted great later that night. Service was good and timely and the wait staff was very friendly. I forgot to note her name, which I apologize for. It wasn't too crowded for a lunch period and there were people from diverse cultures and races dining, which I think speaks to the quality of food. Overall, I made a note to bring my husband back for a re-do where I will definitely be ordering the sampler again. I think he will have a much better experience this time.More
