On the way to trying to find Poison Girl in the rain before they were open (see my PG review) we happily found Hugo's and had a very nice lunch. Exotic fare you won't find elsewhere. Delicious. Must go.

Good ceasar salad but awful burger. The meat was like made of plastic.Bad quality of meat and other ingredients.

This is NOT your Tex-Mex place. If you want REAL food like you could maybe (if you are lucky) get in Mexico City in the best restaurant, then go here. Hugo is a Houston gem, and the food here is EXCEPTIONAL by all standards. This has been my favorite, and remains, favorite restaurant in Houston period. The menu is simply... More

We went for Saturday brunch with the family. We got a good table in the very back of the restaurant, which was fine, in view of bringing a newborn and a toddler for brunch. The service was attentive, sometimes too much so. The waiter came back every 3-4 minutes to ask whether everything was OK. This should never happen if... More

Forget the rest. This is it for Mexican food in Houston. Get a Mezcal marguerite. The ceviche's are all fantastic. The goat and lamb dishes are excellent. I prefer the meat dishes as I try to avoid tacos, but this is not basic Mexican. This is fine dining Mexican, which cannot be beaten.

My family of 20 went to dinner to celebrate a birthday. First problem only one waiter for this large group so it took forever to get drinks and place orders. Event started at7:30 food did not arrive until 9:15! Food and drinks sub par. Will not go back!

We ate here last night for a friend's birthday dinner. The service from the waitstaff was phenomenal! They were efficient, friendly, and helpful with suggestions for drinks and food. It seems like they take pride in their margaritas, which were excellent and presented nicely. The food was good, but overpriced in our opinions. I had the carnitas, and I would... More

Us: that high maintenance table that can bring on annoyed bad service. I wanted to try one of the house cocktails and asked questions and wanted comparisons. My colleague is a picky eater and wanted to know exactly what was in everything and won't eat "that" either. My other colleague was health conscious and wanted to change "this" and put... More

A friend and I flew into Houston, were staying in the Medical District and wanted some amazing Mexican food. I was shocked this restaurant wasn't recommended on our first trip just a few weeks earlier because it surpassed all expectations. We had a reservation, showed up a little early but were still quickly and pleasantly greeted. At first glance, I... More

Hugo's never ever disappoints. Stopped by without reservations for lunch and the brunch menu was still in effect. The spicy roasted peanuts are absolutely addictive, and the queso flameado with steak and mushrooms and yummy cheeses were perfection. Tried the enchiladas with squash blossoms and other veggies, the duck tacos and the blackberry mojitos. All amazing, different and superb. I... More
