We love eating here because it's like eating at mom's house. Delicious dumplings, beef noodle soup, and pork rice. If you pay with credit card there's a service fee. Use cash.

So good! We haven't been here since covid started 2 years ago. It was so good! The pan fried dumplings, beef noodle soup and braised beef rice was delicious! There is a 3% charge for using a credit card.

I never had dumplings outside home this good! Very thin wrapper with big fillings are the two very important features to judge a good dumpling dish. And they live to these standards with their hand made dishes.

I went there with my wife and our baby girl for dinner last Saturday. We got the leek pork fried dumplings and the braised beef noodle soup. I ate most of the dumplings and got the worst of the food poisoning. I threw up 4-5 times on Saturday night and my wife threw up 2-3 times as she ate a couple of the dreaded dumplings. I am still recovering from the food poisoning after 3 days of constant diarrhea and not able to keep anything down. The worst part of it is the owner refuses to take any blame and claims that no one else has come forward and complain about the food poisoning. Thank goodness my baby girl didn't have any of the food there as she was fussy and maybe knew the food was bad. So please if you had similar bad experience as me spread the word about this aweful place.

The dumplings served in this restaurant are very good. The taste, the texture, and the temperature are just right. The beef noodles are very good too. The setting is very casual. Tables seat at most four. So for larger group they have to move the tables together. You order and pay for the food first and the waiter deliver them to your table when they are ready. The rest room is clean and well maintained. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. With great food at reasonable prices, this restaurant is a winner.

If you like dumplings this is the best dumpling house you can find! The place is big enough (60 guests) and it feels like a family place, with food made by your favorite aunt.
Amazing flavors and many different choices of dumplings. Their price is super cheap also!
A plate of 10 or so dumplings is only $7.
We got boiled dumpling (pork), pan fried dumpling (pork) and beef soup dumplings. Each come with either chive or cabbage inside. My personal favorite has been boiled dumpling with cabbage.
The soup from beef dumplings taste like Pho soup and it’s so flavorful.
Last amazing find is chicken steak noodle soup, the fried chicken is extremely juicy inside and light batter on the outside adds some extra flavors! Highly highly recommend this dish.
The staff is super nice, the old lady even gave me extra chicken.
Cash only, if you pay credit card it’s 3.5% surcharge

We had a craving for Taiwanese beef noodle soup and dumplings. One Houston website rated San Dong in the top three restaurants for Chinese dumplings (we disagree), so we tried it. It’s located in a strip mall near the H Mart on Bellaire.
Hostess: No hostess. You order at the counter and sit where you like.
Service: After ordering and paying, the staff brought our food to our table.
Food: We’ve had dumplings all over- in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. San Dong’s dumpling wrappers were too think and tasted like they were frozen. The dumpling meat was mediocre too.The beef noodle soup was not prepared properly. The broth was hot but the ingredients must have been tossed in from the refrigerator just before they served us because the meat was still cold. Also, the noodles were no better than instant ramen noodles. The portions are huge, but overall, we cannot recommend San Dong.
Misc: Cash only

If you're in Chinatown and looking for some great dumplings, look no further. San Dong has the best dumplings in town. They are all cooked fresh to order. The pan-fried dumplings are the best.

This is an authentic San Doong noodle. the food is served fast, cash only. We have also tried the takeaway sticky rice and pancake which were great as well.

Great beef noodle soup and fried dumplings. Also have had the pork chop which is pretty good as well. You can also buy frozen dumplings to take home, and they have a selection of baos as well. Can get very crowded around lunch time in the weekends. Cash only.

Learned of this restaurant in Houston's China town by googling "best Dim Sum Houston", and while it's not a "traditional" dim sum restaurant the pork and leak crispy dumpings and beef dumpling soup are incredible. We've been twice so far, and will definitely go back until we've tried everything on the menu.
The fried chicken and rice is especially tasty.
We bring home a box of their fried rice to eat over the next days.
Our 9 month old gets a taste of everything, and so far loves it as much as we do :)
Next door is a neat Parisian bakery where you can get an iced Thai coffee and pastry afterwards.

Came here based on the reviews and I thought the beef noodles were okay. The fried dumplings were good, but very oily in my opinion. The place was packed and line to the door on my trip. Overall I thought it was overrated.

San Dong has become a part of my regular rotation of eat-out and bring-home-to-eat restaurants here in Houston. It is also one of the only reasons why i go to the ATM. (This place is CASH ONLY). Maybe because I'm Taiwanese or because the owner/manager lady always calls me "suai-ge" (handsome guy) in Chinese, but coming here always feels like home.
WHat i get:
Leek Dumplings (one to eat, and GET A FROZEN TO GO! YOU WILL THANK ME LATER)
Beef Noodle Soup (sometimes i get wide noodles depending on my mood)
Ja Jia Mien (noodles with black bean, tofu, and diced cucumbers)
Pan Fried Dumplings
From the Get-it-yourself-shelf on the left side of the restaurant:
Pickled Cucumbers
Tofu/Mushroom Appetizer
Sticky White Rice on Pork Meatballs (can get this togo easily)
Sticky Brown Rice (get this TOGO also)
Green Onion in Bread (Manh Tou)
Typing this out has made me hungry. I'm going to San Dong. Bye

It's amazing that you can still get great Taiwanese food that fills you up for less than $7!
Sandong Noodle House has been one of the popular Chinatown eats for a reason. Its main menu ranges from noodle soups, rice platters, and dumplings, and everything is priced less than $7. Keep in mind that everything comes in a large portion, so expect to get full from one order unless you have an unusually big appetite. My personal recommendation is the fried chicken rice platter, because it is honestly the best Taiwanese fried chicken I had outside Taiwan! However, no matter what you get, you need to get the pork pot sticker dumplings. The crispness of the pan-fried side and the juiciness of the pork fillings make the pot stickers a Godsend. It is so unreal how good the pot stickers are!
I am also a big fan of the service, although the restaurant is mostly self-served. The cashier lady, whom I am assuming is also the boss, is always nice, attentive, and energetic. One time she was walking by our table, she apologized to us because our "pot stickers was a little burnt" (We thought it was fine) and gave us another plate of pot stickers for free!
Aside from the main menu, Sandong also offers a wide selection of pre-made food in boxes to carry-out and cold Chinese appetizers. My family will usually buy a box of baozi because they are great as snacks and breakfast.
If this restaurant is so awesome, why didn't I give it a five star, you ask? My answer is that Sandong is great in every aspect except for one: cleanliness. You should expect cleanliness as an optional perk when you go to Chinatown, but that should not be an excuse for restaurants to neglect so. Without fail, I can always expect the floor to be sticky. The water dispenser's quality is also a bit sketchy.
However, I don't think Sandong's lack of cleanliness should detract you from going, because I believe that the food and its value does more than compensate this only negative. If you don't mind the atmosphere, Sandong Noodle House is the way to go especially if you want a fast but good eat!

This is great food in the heart of Houston's Chinese community. It is an absolute dive but the pan fried dumplings are delicious. The noodle soup bowls are pretty tasty too. Look at the posted menu and be ready to order before you get in line, or you will be chastised!
