I have been eating at Molina's for over 40 years now, and it is still by far my favorite restaurant in Houston. The Jose's Dip and the Queso are both truly outstanding and go perfectly with both chips and warm corn tortillas. I usually order...More

Service was fast and efficient and the waitress went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of at all times. Food was very good, just enough to fill you up and the beer was ice cold, just the way I like...More

We were in Houston for the first time and the concierge at our hotel recommended this restaurant. It was delicious and the service was very good. I am a carnitas fan and their offering was great. The margarita was very good.

We ate there last evening. Service was very slow, my food was cold and when I went to wipe off the table for my grandsons it was filthy. The tops of chairs were black. I was totally disgusted and will not go back.

Description
Raul Molina arrived in Houston from his hometown of Laredo, Mexico, in the 1920s. Like many of his contemporaries, he was searching for a better life and found work in a local restaurant as a busboy, dishwasher and counterman. In 1941 Raul and wife Mary opened their first Mexican restaurant, the Old Monterrey, located in Houston at 1919 W. Gray. At the time there were only four or five Mexican restaurants in the City of Houston. Today, Raul Molina is considered a pioneer in Tex-Mex cuisine and is known as the patriarch of a food family. Nearly eight decades later, Molina’s Cantina is recognized as the oldest and one of the best locally owned and operated Tex-Mex restaurants in Houston. The Molina family has played a significant role in shaping Houston’s culinary landscape and continues to enjoy the privilege of growing with the community. Whether a third-generation customer or a first-time visitor, we welcome you to the Molina familia. Come, eat, and enjoy a Houston tradition.
