Indian food is my favorite, and I always seek out a couple of restaurants when traveling! Tarka got good reviews and I agree, good food with friendly service! They call themselves Tarka Take Out- but you can eat in too. Order at the counter and...they will bring to your table. I experienced friendly and patient service, I was happy to get some help ordering and some questions answered as a first time visitor. Vegetarian and vegan food is clearly marked on the menu which was helpful. Simple, tasty food and good value for the money! Portions were generous. The atmosphere was comfortable and colorful, very pleasant. The restaurant was an $11 Uber ride from my hotel downtown, easy!More

Visited this place last week. Ordered a vegetarian dish. What I got was a dish that included beef, which was discovered whilst I was eating... I asked for an explanation. The dish was replaced, and no genuine apology as offered. Business as usual? Not quite....I am really unhappy with the lack of service at this 'restaurant'. Let's never go here again.More

Visited recently for late lunch on a Saturday. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. I think of it as fast casual dining, flavors of India. I ordered lamb and chicken skewers with stir fry vegetables and rice. Generous...portions and great prices. Family member with me ordered a rice bowl and really liked it. Enough seating, but not huge. Parking right in front. Would recommend.More

I love this place. Its very delicious Indian food and the value is definitely there. If you like Thai curry, try the Tiki Masala which is my favorite.

We specifically went to check out this Indian Food restaurant that was open on Mondays when most others are not. I did not enjoy it as much as I wanted to, and I love Indian food. I would not go out of my way to...go again. It's kind of a fast-food place, but the prices are too high for fast food. Not my favorite. It was slower than I expected as well, considering it was not crowded at all. My sons liked the curried chicken ok. I like the samosas, but not my vegetarian entre.More

Very fast, and been great the three times I've been there. I haven't been real adventurous with my choices. Price is great too!

My husband and I absolutely love this place. We moved far outside the 610 loop but still make the drive in from time to time, because they have hands down the best counter service (if not all) Indian food in town. Their tikka masala sauce...is super addicting! Reasonable prices, plenty of spaces to sit at, good parking for the location, and their mango lemonade is a refreshing must! Highly recommended.More

Tarka is an Indian fast food place, the concept is definitely cool and if the food were better I would be there every day. Thus far, I have been there twice and both times I found it to be "eh" at best. The first time...I had the Mulligatawny soup which was good, the veggie Pakora also OK and the Korma curry which was nauseatingly sweet. The second time I went for the Coconut Curry but even this one was very sweet albeit not as bad as the Korma, the accompanying naan was tasteless and overall not very good. I ordered both curries at medium spice level and neither had a hint of spicyness. The fast food concept is pretty cool, but regretably the curries aren't very good.More

We first went to of the Tarka Indian Kitchens in Austin, as we didn't realize that it was also in Houston. Having tried it there, we found the one on 19th street and have visited it. We found that it has the same quality of...food as our original visit in Austin. They have a somewhat limited menu (as opposed to other Indian restaurants) but the quantity and quality of the food was very good. In our visits, we have tried the samosas, the malai kofta, the vegetable biryani, the aloo gobi, the gulab jamun and, of course, the naan. All the dishes were done well, with an adequate amount of spiciness and were tasty. Actually, the naan was some of the best we have every had - soft and delicious - great naan. Plus the gulab jamun was very well done and extremely delectable. The restaurant has counter service, you order your meal and are given a number that is displayed at the table. The servers bring out the dishes and that's about the extent of their involvement, so it's pretty simple and straightforward. Prices are not out of line with other restaurants and it won't cost a fortune to eat here - about $15 per person with appetizer, main dish, naan and dessert.More

I don't think it's expensive at all. Appetizers are $3-$6. Entrees are $7-$10.
