Our food was delicious. They had something for everyone. From pricey dishes to reasonable platters. Our family of 6 came out cheaper than eating at any other steakhouse, and it taste much better too.

I come here maybe once a year. Today was a mistake. We set in the bar area because we were only having coffee and dessert. It was 330pm on Sunday. We sat quite awhile before someone came to take our order. Choc cake coffee and...a glass of water. 1 beer and 2 other coffee and pie. At least 20 minutes latter our order came minus my water. She said she'd be back with the water. She never came back no coffee refills no water. The cake was stale not horrible but pretty dry. It probably should not have been for sale. As we were getting up to leave she brought my water. We were there at that tale 1.5hrs. We never did get a bill after falling around at the register for 5 minutes would finally paid our bill and left. Not really good experience today. It'll be a while before any of us come back.More

We had a party of 8 for Mother's Day, and we arrived before the restaurant opened so as to get an outside table, which we did. We understand that today was a busy day, but.... We ordered two sets of appetizers to share among the...8 of us and a bottle of red wine. I had to walk twice to the bar to inquire what happened to our wine. When it finally arrived after about 30 minutes and I asked the man who brought the bottle why it took so long, I was told in a unapologetic way that they were "busy today". The bottle was already opened and uncorked.. a no-no in my books. Any bottle should be opened at the table, but we will pass on that detail. Two salads that were part of the main entrees arrived before the appetizers finally arrived. My wife had asked that her filet mignon be medium rare, it arrived medium done. I had expressly said that I wanted my steak extra-extra rare, it arrived medium done and I sent it back. When the waitress brought me a second steak, it was obvious that the cook tried to teach me a lesson and my steak was essentially totally raw, which didn't bother me (except for the attitude) as I love steak tartar anyway. I could tell the waitress was expecting me to be stunned but their ploy didn't work. One of our guests had asked for a beer right at the beginning of the meal, he had to ask what happened to his beer, which then finally arrived close to the end of the meal. Bottom line, when I pay $29 for a steak, I expect it to be cooked to my liking and to have reasonably good and timely service. A bad experience all around.More

50+ years ago some brothers came to visit their cousins and spent part of the night riding dirt roads and laughing. The brothers were taken to a rough looking white building and presented with the biggest pile of onion rings like they never saw before...or since. I had been watching for that building whenever I returned but no luck. I wasn't even sure which town it was in. This past weekend I carried the wife to Hermann Sons, looked at the menu and there it was. A picture of the old building on the menu. I ordered a small stack of onion rings (plenty) this time and told my wife and the waitress (A+) the mystery was solved. But our "20-25 minutes" wait went over 30 minutes that we spent looking for feverish customers. My T-bone tasted like it had bounced off the coals but still good. Call ahead if you can.More

The bathroom was clean, the service was friendly, and the food was good and filling. Highly recommend if you're in the area and don't want to eat fast food, because you don't have many other options.

Hadn’t been here in years, since they remodeled.....it is so nice! Stopped in for late lunch/early supper. The couple of drinks from the bar were really good and the food was good. I got the grilled shrimp salad and he got the fried chicken sandwich....I recommend!More

Went to dinner with friends on a Friday night. There was a band playing so we sat outside on the patio. The menu has anything anyone would want: steak, chicken, seafood, Mexican, salads, sandwiches. We started out with awesome onion ring appetizer and good margaritas....The steaks were tender and cooked perfectly. Their house specialty, pepper steak was disappointing as it is really just a hamburger with peppers and cheese mixed in. It was dry and flavorless. The salads were fresh, seafood choices were good. Service was excellent, atmosphere outstanding and band was great to dance the two-step!More

Great atmosphere and what's better than a great steak served up in deep South Texas? My sister and I got the 10 oz. sirloin, hers medium rare and mine medium. They were cooked to perfection and you could actually see the difference in the amount...of red/pink in the center of our steaks. Steaks have a terrific char-broiled taste and were served hot with tasty side dishes. Service is very good and our waitress was very friendly Worth a special trip or going a little out of the way!!More

I have a mixed review. Always had good service and the place is clean. Salad bar is basic but good, love the pepper steak with cheese and lots of serrano peppers. The appetizers are really good but the actual steaks are nothing special which I...find strange for a steakhouse. I recommend everything but their steaks. I am a good cook and cook a mean steak that I have to say is far superior. I expect better at restaurant prices so stick to the other menu items and you will be pleased. Good for lunch and dinnerMore

The steak was very thin and not very good. My baked potato was served cold as were the others at our table. Definitely not worth the money. The waitress was excellent and did a great job but that was the only highlight of the night....I've eaten here several times in the past but don't think I'll be back. after telling the people in my party to get ready to have an excellent eating experience we were completely disappointed.More

Sirloin steak dinner for two was good but no wow factor .... service was good for the COVID 19 social distancing inside dining. Cesar salad had some leaves with brown edges ... steak was not as tender as expected. Large portions though. Appreciative their dining...room was open as other restaurants were not.More

After almost being crushed by a semi truck we made a U turn on Highway 90 and wandered back to the Steak House. It was a first time and we were hungry and In Hondo and had seen this place from the highway and were...curious. The setting is interesting. They have their own curio shop and a huge outdoor venue with a less than spectacular view. The chicken fried steak which is my Bell Weather was mediocre, the white gravy was OK. The bread was white and mundane. The salad bar was uninspired. My wife had their burger and it was also less than exciting. The pattie was out of a box and the fries were also from a box and uninspired. The tea was good though. Lots of people eating there. I would say it is a great source for bland American food.More

We found this amazing place while we were in the area for an artifact dig. Over the top food of any type...steaks, their signature hammer cheesesteak, fish..whatever you want. Cool bar and musics venue as well. Highly recommended for great casual dining or drinks.

I have been going to Hermann Sons Steak House for about 40 years, and my husband's family forever! It's always been a place we couldn't WAIT to get to, and many times since moving back to San Antonio, have gone out of our way to...get a meal there. We recently attended a rehearsal dinner there which was very good, with the entrees of the traditional pepper steak and Ella's chicken. But my visit for dinner about a month ago left me disappointed, and concerned for the future of this wonderful place. My order rarely changes there, from the chicken fried steak to the steak and shrimp, but my favorite has always been the amazing steak fingers on the senior special menu. There are LOTS of seniors in Hondo, and the waitress informed me that the new management had done away with the senior specials! Definitely NOT a way to keep the peace with an aging community! I was told they still had steak fingers on the kids' menu so I ordered them...YUCK! Frozen, pre-formed, fried...a FAR CRY from the delicious, homemade ones from all the years past! What's next? Frozen, pre-formed chicken fried steak? The restaurant, under this new management, will not succeed if someone doesn't examine the changes and poor decisions being made. The Britsch family built a legend and legacy...please please think of your clientele in Hondo, the standards you have to uphold...don't let it go!More
