I don't see what all the great reviews are all about. 1/2 cooked poorly seasoned beans. $7. 00 plain baked potatoes average brisket. De gustibus non est disputandum

Texas style taste at its best. On way home from a quick road trip from hill country we stopped from late lunch and we ordered the sliced brisket sandwich.. the meat by itself was so full of flavor and very juicy and I’m a big...saucer so the bbq sauce was definitely home made, not to sweet and not to thick. Will make it a for sure stop again!More
Came for lunch I wasn't impressed. Brisket and sausage both too dry for my taste. The others had nothing to say about being impressed. Disappointed I had heard some positive comments so we went. 2 of us feel like like me. 2 thought it was...very good. We all thought it somewhat pricy. De Gustibus non est disputandumMore
The brisket is as good as it looks! Juicy and full of flavor. First time there and we'll be back! Yum Yum!
Wonderful people, excellent food. Texas top 50 bbq! There is nothing bad on the menu. We are so lucky to have such a gem in Hondo.
If you happen to be in Hondo around lunch time, this would be a great place to stop and get some Texas Barbecue. It's on the main highway through town, so it's easy to find. I stopped in just after 1 p.m. on a Wednesday,...and there was a short, reasonable line of a half dozen people in front of me, and the line moved quickly. Inside there's a dozen or so wooden tables for dine in, but I was picking up a sandwich to go. I opted for the sliced beef, and they asked if I wanted sauce/pickles/onions - of course I did - and they came already placed on the sandwich. When they gave me the to go order, I was concerned that the small, square styrofoam box wasn't going to be a good value, maybe because I was expecting a hoagie style bun, but it was plenty. The hamburger style bread was irrelevant since it was the stack of sliced meat that I really wanted. The meat was sliced medium, with both tender inner cuts and crunchy burnt outside cuts. It was a bit sloppy already loaded up, but tasted super and a great value for the price. As of early September, masks were required of guests - and everyone in line had one on. The four workers did not have masks if that's of concern to you.More
Pork ribs were pretty good. BBQ sauce is nice. Not many choices for sides, but the green beans were decent. We were so tired and hungry that we still ate there even though only one of the four people working there was wearing a mask....We always like to top off our tea before we go, but no iced tea refills. So when we left we were still thirsty and a bit uneasy.More
We have been twice. It seems consistent. Brisket is good. It's tender with a very flavorful bark. Ribs are very good. Almost fall off the bone tender and excellent flavor. I don't know why anyone in Hondo would go to the Bill Miller's. Way better...meat and more for less money. Sides are pretty good...nothing out of this world.More
Husband & I made the trip from San Antonio just to have lunch @ Heavy’s. Portions & price were very good, as was service when ordering. We each got 2 meat plate, brisket/sausage & brisket/turkey. Husband liked sausage, but we both agreed brisket was tender,...yet tasteless. Turkey was best meat as it was moist & tender. Pinto beans were good, but “side of the day” cream corn was bland. We had planned ahead & brought a cooler to get extra to go, but were disappointed in brisket & came home without.More
I eat at Heavy's at least once a week. Heavy works there with his wife, several different family members and friends. It is a very friendly place to go. The different meats and sides are always delicious and they give you plenty of food for...the price.More
Heavy's BBQ (the Hondo one) is a pretty standard bbq place. Simple sitting area and standard bbq fare. Nothing fancy but good food and a pleasant atmosphere.
Heavy’s is consistently good! Meat is always fresh and delicious! Service is great!! They always have a crowd but they serve you quickly! Sides are good too!
Texas Monthly recognition for Heavy’s is appropriate. The brisket and sausage were spot on yesterday. The daily special was brisket sandwich, 2 sides and beverage (with refills). I can recommend the food & service at Heavy’s Barbecue.
We stopped here Friday just before 11am to be the first in line of about 20 people! This is a step-up-to-the-pit-master and tell him what meat and sides you want and then see the gals for drinks and payment. I ordered LUNCH SPECIAL PLATE one...meat and two sides, dark meat chicken and it was EXCELLENT! Sides of pinto beans and potato salad. Beans were pretty sad. Potato salad was in-house made and good. Hubby got the brisket and sausage and was very pleased with both! No BBQ sauce in the dining room. Have to return to counter if you want more BBQ sauce. Ample space to park behind the building hauling our 27ft travel trailer.More
