Loved this place! Pulled pork sandwich was impressive. Make sure you do not get there too late, as by 1:30pm they had already sold out of the beef. Food was tender, and really tasty. Outdoor seating is covered, but the yard is a bit junky - there was a truck on blocks in the yard. Not many seats inside, and no bathroom - you have to ask at the conveniece store next door. Also, it is not really in Hearne - it's about a 30 minute drive from Hearne. Other than that, well worth the trip!

This little place is off the beaten path a bit and in the middle of farm/ranch country but worth it. I had the Hog Sandwich - pulled pork and sausage - and enjoyed every bite. Don't get put off by the abandoned gas station across the street or the somewhat rundown one right next to Blue Moon: it's worth the stop.

A true wonder that the location of this place supports any food service joint. Nothing but ranches for miles and from the look of the guests and trucks in the make-shift lot the locals are keeping the Moons alive. There is an outside banner that looks new next to a corrugated aluminum sign sitting in the dirt, you could easily drive right by. Up the ramp you enter the small wood frame building to a tiny, 2 table and a few stools rustic dining/service area with an order window reminiscent of a time passed. Happy, friendly and polite staff take hand written orders and place them on a closepined line for the hidden cooks to prep. Full of TX trinkets and solid woods(including the well worn floor)that entertain you while waiting-you notice the simple life here. The Sliced Brisket Sandwich(6.99)was soft and moist but lacked smoke ring or any bark. Snappy Sausage was excellent and tasted uniquely house made. Very good Sauce. The find:Cowboy Cornbread-mixed w/tomatoes and chilies topped with a mound of melted cheese-it's a meal in itself and re-heats well. Picnic tables outside, under roof, offer needed additional seating. If you have an extra hour at 20 min off I-45 this is a BBQ experience worth every mile.

It's a little hole in the wall, people are helpful and great service. We had ribs (which were excellent), turkey, and the "hog" sandwich ( pulled pork & sausage on toasted bread). So much meat on the sandwich I ate a lot of it with a fork. The sides of beans and potato salad (mustard type and no onions) were both tasty. Drinks tea (sweet or unsweet) and water. If you want more there's a small store next door that sells sodas. They do catering and have a small inside area and an outside area for dining there. We'll be back.

A small house with a big helping of delicious tender bbq of all sorts. And the fixings of beans, jalepeno poppers, pasta salad are great. Finally the bacon bit brownies are to die for. A dear friend introduced us.

What a delicious stop for BBQ! I made the drive out of College Station on a recent trip and it was well worth the drive. This is one of those little hole in the wall places that is a gem! The brisket, pulled pork, and chicken were all delicious. I’ll definitely be back when in the area again.

There is a reason they are a TOP BBQ place in Texas . . . . . As many other reviews said this place IS in the middle of NOWHERE, and is in a SHACK . . . . the people who work here and the owner are TOP SHELF . . . . We had the most wonderful experience here from the food to the conversation with the owner. We were tight on time and had to make our visit MUCH earlier than we anticipated and had to forgo our previously ordered PRIME RIB (we were so looking forward to) but we instead had the Ribs and several sides that were SO spot on it was not funny. ALL the food was fantastic and fresh. If Iived in the area I would be here weekly. TOTALLY WORTH the trip from just about anywhere. Enjoy the food. Order the PRIME RIB if you are planning to come on a Thursday.

We first ate here last year when the TMBBQ list came out. We showed up with an entire baseball team and families. The owner was so fun to watch work the crowd. We immediately had drinks while waiting in line. While we waited for the people in front of us to get their credit card receipt, the owner took each family's order to get it started. She's very efficient! When the food started to come out, it was clear it was going to be good. The meats were TO DIE FOR, cooked perfectly and presented on a large plate with plenty of pickles and onions. The smoke is perfect...not too much. They have plenty of sides to choose from, but the mac salad is old school good. The ribs melt in your mouth. The pork loin is crazy tender. The smoked turkey wonderful. And the brisket perfect. I say all this about my first trip there, because it has been the exact same experience the three subsequent visits including today. GREAT FOOD. GREAT PEOPLE. BEAUTIFUL BACKROADS. GO THERE. IT IS COMPLETELY WORTH IT.

Tried to find this restaurant a year ago and gave up after an hour, but on this trip back from Dallas, I found it! Being on the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ List had me charged up. The brisket delivered with a lot of burnt ends which had incredible flavor. I was a bit disappointed with my Loaded Baker with Turkey. Just didn't get much flavor out of the turkey and they put the sauce on the turkey which was way too sweet for my taste and it kind of ruined the overall potato. If I'm ever in the middle of nowhere again, I would stop by and get more brisket lean! Very friendly staff and it was a sunny day so I sat outside on the picnic table. Beautiful view.

I’m glad you found us! I sorry our stuffed potato was a disappointment. We usually stuff our potato with chopped beef. We offer substitute meats if you desire. Perhaps, next time try chicken or even pulled pork or pork loin. Tell us to put the sauce on the side. We want you to be happy. Thank you for the compliment on the brisket!

Situated on OSR 21 miles west of exit 152 from I-85, this unpretentious BBQ shack fully deserves its spot in the Texas Monthly top 50. There are a few tables inside, and some picnic tables under an awning outside. We talked auto racing with a rancher whom we met there while eating: nachos (out of this world good), ribs (meaty and tasty), brisket (tender, moist, with excellent bark and ring), cowboy cornbread (wonderful), and a banana pudding that should be regarded as a must dessert. $48 in all bought a half pound of brisket, a half rack of ribs, a quarter wedge of cornbread, a small bean pot (which we haven't tried yet), and a half order of nachos, as well as fountain drinks. Terrific value, and a great spot to visit, especially if you want to see what east Texas ranching is all about.

True Texas country charm! And some of the best BBQ in all of Texas! Exceptional food, and equally good friendly southern local service! Tiny place: limited seating indoors, but 4 times as much covered seating outside. One of my favorite things about this place is they make dishes you don't normally find at any BBQ place. Like the "bean pot" or "cowboy cornbread" = mmm mmm good, and a pleasant welcomed change to traditional BBQ eating. You can a pitcher of good ol sweet tea to go with it! And they frequently have all kinds of creative homemade deserts, that sometimes change for a pleasant variety.

The food is excellent, the place is small compared to the traffic of the restaurant. The food is freshly made because there is that much moving of their product. The brisket is excellent and on Thursday they also have prime rib.

Appearances are deceiving. This shack cooks up some of the best BBQ that I have had in Texas, aka the world. The brisket had a nice distinctive flavor, on top of the traditional smoke. The pulled pork was nicely spiced and moist. Make the trip over. Staff is very friendly.
