Brisket was slightly dry, but has good flavor. Wish I had tried the beans, pass on the tater salad. Sauce is just right. I will be back next time I drive past.

On our way to Austin from Galveston, we had a moment where we wanted a special lunchtime experience, and we found it in this special, wonderfully preserved place on the main drag. Why change from 50, 60, 70 years before, the decor or the tables, when the ribs are so meaty and flavorful and the brisket with just the right... More

We were in this area about 2 years ago (Spring 2014) visiting family nearby, stumbled across City Meat Market while sitting at the red light in front of the place, turned around and pulled up out front, we had to see this place! We were just back again last week (6/15-22/16) again to visit family and drove straight there this... More

The food, barbeque, is so good, everyone seems to overlook the surroundings, the lack of dishes, and the plastic forks, knives, and spoons. There is an art to carrying your food to the table. You have to fold the butcher paper just right to form a carrying pouch. This must be the place to eat for locals, because several well-dressd men... More

There barbeque is the best in town. Love their ribs and sausage. Husband like the beans and potato skald. They have been around a long time, no one has them beat. We go there lots and they also have a meat market. So if your coming thru Giddings, be sure to stop, you will be happy u did

My family has been stopping and eating at City Meat Market for years. In all my travels across Texas, it is undoubtedly some of the best marbled brisket there is. Sausage and ribs are very good too. I've learned to always buy marbled brisket if I'm taking it to go. Being wrapped in butcher paper will render the lean brisket... More

Once again hubby let me drive, and woke up to find us parked in front of a bar-be-que restaurant. We have passed this place quite a few times, and stopped once only to find they were sold out for the day. Just as others have described, it seems a little worn down, but that is just a testimony to so... More

Down home market Q. I can't drive by without stopping. Don't wait till 1 because they will be out. It's not the cleanest of places but I think the helps the flavor. Enjoy

On my return drive from Austin to Bryan, I took a detour so that I could avail myself of some excellent "Q" at the City Meat Market in Giddings. The brisket and the sausage were, as usual, excellent. This place isn't fancy, but the service is friendly and the food is delicious. Give it a try.

There is a small chalk board that looks like it hasn't been touched in years with a list of the different meats that are available - until they run out. There is a small list of side items to go along with them. Also with no prices. Everything is served on wax paper you take to your table and unfold.... More
