Best meal during our stay in Galveston! This is exactly the kind of restaurant we try hard to find. Small, locally owned, casual and with awesome food! I ordered the shrimp platter ($17.99) and it was the best shrimp I have had in years. Huge...portion and cooked perfectly. Hubby ordered the chicken & sausage gumbo ($13.99) and he was thrilled with his dinner. He said it had the perfect amount of spice. Service was very friendly and quick. We would eat here every week if we lived locally.More

We had driven by the Gumbo Diner several times on our multiple visits to Galveston and finally decided to try it while staying a week in Galveston this summer. There are plenty of things on the menu to suit everyone's tastebuds. We were simply blown...away by the service and more so by the food; it was delicious! Portion sizes are huge! This has probably become our favorite restaurant in town and we can't wait to go back when we're in the area again.More

Our party of 5 was seated promptly, and served by an attentive and cheerful waiter, JR. We ordered 5 different dishes: fish tacos, bourbon platter, coastal seafood platter, breakfast sandwich, and chicken fried chicken. All good, particularly the coastal seafood and the fish tacos. Authentic...New Orleans beignets for dessert. We will come back!More
We were greeted by our server after being promptly seated. He was able to help me make a decision on ordering and was good natured and jovial. He put a smile on both our faces. My husband ordered the ‘Lil Daddy’ bowl of gumbo and...garlic bread. It was a full quart! Plus a cup of rice. He ate every bite. I ordered a shrimp po’boy and onion rings. Every single thing was spot on excellent. The French bread on my Po’boy was huge and just great, crisp and soft. There was plenty of small lightly breaded fried shrimp, a healthy dollop of fresh and creamy coleslaw and the pickles tasted so fresh. I ordered some tartar sauce on the side and it too was soo tasty! The onion rings were also lightly breaded and freshly dipped and very delicious. It was a clean and well run establishment right across from the sea wall. JR is an exceptional server. All around 5 stars!More
We were told by another restaurant that Gumbo Diner had breakfast. So we stopped in one morning and they were right. Great breakfast! Anything you can possible want (chicken and waffles, pancakes, shrimp and grits, eggs, sausage, biscuits, and the list goes on). And it...was all VERY good and so was our service. We will definitely be back and highly recommend. All the staff was so friendly and very attentive.More
We're so glad you came to eat with us. Our recipes are really special, and it means a lot to us that we can share them with guests like you.
Was welcomed by the tantalising aroma of freshly-baked waffles so of course, had to try them, and they didn’t disappoint - so yummy. Also Had the gumbo and it was delicious. The sizing is generous so the ‘lil daddy’ option is more than enough for...one person. If you’re also doing appetisers, then it’s still too much :)More
Thanks for dining with us! Our recipes mean a lot to us, so we're thrilled that we exceeded your expectations.
We had brunch here two days during our stay. My wife had a shrimp po'boy and I had the southwest omelet on our first visit. The next visit we both had shrimp and grits. The food was consistently wonderful and the staff were friendly and...efficient. The full menu is available all day with the exception of breakfast which cuts off at eleven A.M. There were lots of locals as well as groups going and coming from the cruise ships. My only regret is that I didn't get to try their Gumbo or crawfish Etoufee.More

This place really hit the spot for breakfast! We loved the grits and packakes. The crawfish etoufee was fantastic. The coffee was good, too! Definitely will be back.
Awesome to hear that! Thanks! Come back soon for another amazing meal.
First Michael the waiter was the best ever, he so nice and accommodating, assisted with our order, he deserves a promotion or teach a class on hospitality! We had build your own burger which had 3 patties. We also had waffles with whipped butter and...chicken. Delicious! Our plates were even warmed. Pay attention to details and makes sure customers were happy!More
We're proud of our tradition of exceptional food and service. Thanks for being a part of it.
My husband found this place by an internet search. We arrived and parking was limited we drove around to back and found one spot. It was close to the motel that was next door. A short walk to diner. We got seated quickly. The restaurant...is an older diner and has a New Orleans menu. There are pictures on the wall that go back to when it first opened. It’s small inside, the tables are close to each other. But there is a big window and the view is of Seawall Blvd and the beach. That was nice! It was great service, we got our coffee and ordered. I ordered a quick two egg breakfast. I am not a big breakfast person. My husband ordered pancakes. Our food came at a reasonable time and it was yummy. Next time I will have to try the gumbo and beignets what they are known for. The people next to us ordered that and the portion sizes are big and it smelled delicious, definitely will come back. We like it a lot.More

Fast and friendly service, the food was amazing. Shrimp and grits done right! My husband loved his blackened shrimp. If we had been in town longer, we would have eaten here again.

Excellent breakfast! The beignets were hot and delicious! Not much parking but motel next door is not in use so park there.
