I just recently moved to Galveston from Dallas Texas and joined the Galveston Eats Group on facebook to read the reviews of others, to choose the best places to eat locally. Little Daddy’s appeared several times and with the good reviews I chose this place first after the restaurants were allowed to reopen from Covid19. This place followed guidelines and met my expectations in the cleanliness, employees wearing required face masks, and the supplies at hand for customers to use in regard to sanitizing. With Social distancing in place, we ordered our meal from a paper menu for one time use only. there was an item unavailable at the time, bearing in mind that the place had been very busy from the moment their doors were open to serve. our order consisted of “ The Best Gumbo I have ever eaten “. The fried Okra, lightly coated with perfect seasoning just literally melted in your mouth. I have eaten fried okra from hundreds of restaurants in my time but this one, hands down, took the entire cake. The manager was told by our waitress that an item on menu was not available and she personally approached our table to apologize. I was blown away and equally impressed by her sincere thoughts. I was not charged for my entire meal and stated that I do not have a problem with paying for what I had eaten and that the meal was worth every cent. I need to also let you know about the garlic bread being the best I have ever had. the Seasoning again and the cheese on this bread will definitely have me returning for more. Thank you Little Daddy for having the greatest manager and dedicated cooks I have ever come across. It”s my honor to eat local and show my support in a time where businesses are struggling to bounce back. Your team at this location has my undivided attention and I will be returning with lots of hungry relatives in the near future. One Happy Customer !!! Cheryl Bisset

Yes, first meal on the island, and it is the one that sets the standard for the reast of our meals during our stay. We arrived on a Tuesday and headed downtown as soon as we were checked into our hotel. When we arrived the place was completely empty (Tues. Off season...our good luck because we were the center of attention by our server, Morgan.) My wife knew what she wanted, the bacon wrapped shrimp appitizer and a greek salad. Me, the undecided one, settled in on the shrimp feast... I know, it's a gumbo shop and in hindsight I should have odered some because it is the best.
The shrimp appitizer arrived on a bed of thinly cut onion rings, similar to onion straws in thickness, and were as good as we remembered. The salad was huge and fresh, more than she could eat. My order consisted of some bacon wrapped shrimp (very good), fried shrimp (with the lightest breading I've ever seen), grilled shrimp (delish!), and boiled shrimp (nice!) on a bed of fried sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes could have been saved for someone else because there was so much shrimp.
We finished off the meal by splitting the bread pudding. Finally we waddled out and rolled down the street totally satisfied. Wanting to go back again, but that is for our next trip.

On vacation in Galveston for the first time, we were surprised to see how much New Orleans & Mardi Gras influence there is here. While strolling through the Arts District, we came upon this restaurant and found out they had Beignets, so we went inside. We got a bag of Beignets to go and took a look at the menu. A couple hours later, we were back with a big appetite and ordered a variety of different dishes to include Seafood Gumbo, Jambalaya and an unbelievable giant shrimp cocktail & salsa dish that you eat with fried chips. Everything was excellent! The food here is really, really good and it has a nice New Orleans atmosphere. We sat at the bar and service was fairly quick. We liked it so much, we came back after our cruise and we brought our friends who also liked everything they ordered. Most seating is indoors but they have a few tables outside. This is a fun place to grab something to eat!

My wife and I have been coming to this restaurant for years. The gumbo that they make is awesome but last night the food was terrible. My wife had a hamburger with fries and the fries were limpy and cold.
I had a fried blue crab sandwich minus the bread, with extra tartar sauce on the side. The tartar sauce was warm and the crab on the inside was soaked with oil.
When I ordered a beer for myself with a slice of lime the line was dry and old. The table that we sat at was sticky. And the lady that was cooking was more interested in sitting with friends in the back of the restaurant talking and having a good time. Not to mention the manager that was screaming in front of customers at his bar back guy because of what he did not do the night before. This is the first time in years that we got this terrible service and food from this restaurant. I thought I would take a picture of the lady that was doing the cooking gabbing away with Friends in the back of the restaurant while we were waiting for our food to be cooked.

I was very disappointed in my meal from this restaurant. In the $19 crawfish platter, there were fried crawfish tails and a sauce-sized plastic container each of rice and etouffee. There were no sides at all and no sauce. It tasted okay (it wasn't anything special, but it was decent), but for that much, I expect at least one side dish and more than a small taste of each of the items in the main dish. I can get much better food in better proportions at lower prices at other restaurants.

Good seafood gumbo, shrimp po boy And shrimp kettle. The smaller portions of gumbo and po boy are still big with generous helping of seafood or shrimp. Outside seating is pet friendly

My husband & I visited the area from Fredericksburg.
We wanted some really good, fresh seafood and checked the reviews and decided to give this place a try, as it was in close proximity to a historic home we had toured.
First, let me say that I grew up eating Cajun food on south Louisiana where most of my extended family resides, so I Doral from experience as to what authentic Cajun food should taste like!
Next, I want to let you know that Brittney was our waitress and she was very cordial and inviting, as well as attentive.
We ate an early lunch. The gumbo looked & smelled fabulous, (there are different varieties) so we decided to start with that. We chose the seafood option. Caution: there are no cup sizes available and we split a bowl & it was a very large & generous portions. It was served with saltine crackers and to Tabasco so we were able to season it with just the right amount of heat. The rioux was very rich, dark and had the perfect amount of seasoning . There was plenty of shrimp and bits of fish in it as well.
We decided to order a fried seafood platter but substituted more shrimp instead of fish with our oysters. The oysters were small but tasty and they and the shrimp were very fresh and LIGHTLY breaded & seasoned for just the right mix. These were served over a bed if fries which proved to be way too much for us, but we have it our best shot!
Everything was perfectly paced,hot,&delicious!

After reading the reviews I was very excited to try this place.
Let's start with the service. Awesome. Our server was informative and very responsive. I ordered the char grilled oysters and a small gumbo. The server asked if I wanted the oysters first. Since I was planning to have this for my meal I said to bring everything out at the same time. The kitchen prepared the oysters first and she brought them out and apologized that everything didn't come out at the same time. I'm not putting this in to be critical of the kitchen staff or anyone but rather to point out how attentive to details our server was.
That being said I have few peeves to point out. My primary complaint is that the seafood just didn't taste as fresh as I feel it should have. Well that's the only way I really know how to describe it but it is possible that everything was just overcooked. The roux in the gumbo was outstanding but it was brought down by the seafood. The proteins were a little too soft ( mushy ) and the flavor was off. My son ordered the crawfish etouffee and the comments would be the same.
That being said I admit I did like the place and would be more than willing to try it again.

We had lunch here on Saturday, February 26. It was a family of 5, all adults. A couple of us had the fried shrimp platter and the shrimp were real good. A couple had the crawfish combo and said both dishes were very good. One had the restaurant week special of salad, (excellent) gumbo (tasted great, very little seafood), and a desert. We should have taken the clue on the gumbo as we ordered some seafood gumbo and shrimp etouffee for take out. The shrimp etouffee had a lot of shrimp in it and it was excellent. The gumbo, 64oz's had a great dark liquid and was a seafood combo of what was supposed to be shrimp, oyster and crab. For the 64 oz we had maybe 16-24 oz of substance in it. Mostly okra, no oysters at all, about 12 - 15 very small shrimp and no crab meat. Very disappointing to say the least. We expected it would have very substantial seafood and had very little. Fortunately there was a lot of rice to provide substance. As a result we can't recommend getting the gumbo here.

As out-of-state visitors wanting seafood with a local flavor, we relied on the effusive reviews of Little Daddy’s Gumbo Bar. The ambience is basically a hole in the wall, not necessarily bad, but we did sit in the rear, near the “kitchen”. We have never had gumbo, so we ordered gumbo, not knowing if it was good or not. I guess it’s ok, but may have to try some other type of Cajun food, and not be a snob about it, cuz I do know I love seafood.

Enjoyed a nice appetizer outside and enjoyed your waitress Blanca who was very friendly, talkative, shared suggestions for drinks and enjoyed doing her job with a smile under her mask. I accidently left my bag of 7 vinyl records that I had just purchased from that area and I ran back 15 minutes later & Blanca had them tucked away safe for me. Thank you for your customer service and honesty!! KUDOS to having employees with qualities that matter! keep up the great job!

Simply stated, the shrimp gumbo was mediocre. The oysters on the half shell were fresh and delicious and our main entree, blackened shrimp with fries were acceptable. Hand cut fries would have been better. We asked that the oysters be brought out first then they gumbo and finish with the shrimp. The gumbo came 1st. Yikes. The staff and manager were most pleasant. A nice place but if your looking for New Orleans style gumbo try elsewhere.

Food took over an hour and was subpar and expensive. Weight staff was too busy and inattentive. They didn’t let us know they had issues with making gumbo and just let us wait. Overall super disappointed and it felt like a waste of time and money.

I was disappointed after reading all of the awards the restaurant has received,but the seafood gumbo was the worst gumbo I’ve ever eaten. There was no flavor or texture or just anything I normally associate with gumbo. The chicken and sausage gumbo was a little bit better and all of the other food was “ok”, but the seafood gumbo during our visit was just not up to par. Maybe it was an off night?

I’d leave a photo but we ate it...all. This place was great! The gumbo is something special. The red beans and rice was full of sausage. The catfish fried to perfection and their tartar and red sauces need to be sold in stores. So good!!
