Should have read "certainly not disappointed" definitely a typo. Went back and had the M-F lunch buffet. Was very good also. Staff again very friendly. Can certainly see why it is a main stay in Galveston. Thanks again for helping us have a great Week. John &Joan

However our meal that was not good which was really disappointing. Maybe the chef was different but it was a real pity... More

We ended up here by accident. Totally glad we found it. We had a pizza and the waiter recommend the angel hair pasta with lobster sauce. Incredible. Really, a total 10! The service was great. This place is not overly fancy, but extremely clean. Relaxed atmosphere. The food can't be beat. I really don't remember having better Italian. We will... More

Very good buffet at a fair price. Includes ice tea and dessert. The Italian sausage and peppers, Fish with garlic and tomatoes, roasted potatoes were delis! Reminded me of my mama's cooking.

As always! Great food, it is a bit pricey, but still my number one spot for Italian food! Love their spaghetti and meatballs!

Very tasty good sized portions. Excellent and traditional preparation of all items and attentive service. Location couldn't be better for motorists entering and exiting the Island.

We decided to eat here on our last night in Galveston. Great wait staff. Great food. Portion size was generous. We did not have any pizza as we all ordered pasta dishes. They did let the kids play with pizza dough which I thought was cool. Good atmosphere. Would recommend

We went here for pizza hoping we would be pleased. Very disappointed. We ordered a pizza with everything on it. Big mistake. Could not taste the sauce and the crust was rubbery. All the stuff masked any flavor the pizza would have had. Never again. I won't even try the other dishes.

It all started back in 1967 when Sicilian born Giovanni Smecca decided to move to Galveston, Texas from Patterson, New Jersey after hearing Glen Campbell’s famous “Galveston” during a card game. Giovanni always dreamed of being a professional fisherman, so he decided to give it a shot and made the drive to Galveston. After battles of sea sickness, Giovanni quickly decided that the fish business wasn’t for him.Heartbroken, Giovanni was about to move back to New Jersey when he met Mario Bonaccorso who was trying to open a pizzeria. The two became great friends, and together, these two young Italian entrepreneurs started Mario’s Flying Pizza and brought the “pizza pie” to Galveston Island.Today, we are still family owned and operated and are considered a delightful, neighborhood restaurant with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We serve a wide variety of Italian cuisine and New York style pizza and strive to use fresh, seasonal, ingredients wherever possible, so come on in, sit back, relax, and enjoy a wonderful meal and a nice glass of wine at Mario’s Ristorante!
