Saltwater Grill is celebrating their 20th anniversary, and we have been devoted customers since their second month. They have weathered ebbs and flows of tourism and popularity, and two hurricanes, including one disaster, and the quality of the food, their service and the ambiance have only gotten better over the years. This time we went on "boxing day," December 26th, and while many places were closed or had back-up or make-up crews on hand, Saltwater Grill had the first team on hand. We had old favorite entres, coconut shrimp and grilled shrimp and scallops, and both dishes were perfect, timed and served perfectly. We will be back as long as we are still able. Thanks Danny!

We went for Happy Hour and were so impressed we stayed for dinner too. The food in this upscale restaurant is very creative and flavorful. We are foodies from the Midwest and this is our kind of place for sure. For Happy Hour we had the orange shrimp served on a bed or rice and the Kung Pao cauliflower with house made ranch. They had other menu items for HH that we will have to try including a tempura battered lobster tail ($21) that I am sure is fabulous too. For dinner we had a bowl of seafood gumbo and an apple cider salad. My entree was seared grouper with fingerling potatoes and steamed vegetables. The food, the service and the ambience is as good as I have ever experienced. No visit to Galveston Island is complete without taking your special someone to happy hour and dinner here. Wonderful!

We visit Galveston every other weekend. We do not live very far and subsequently Galveston is "go to for a day" place. In addition, we also do have a few friends who are residents. The ever present conversation prior to going is "where we are going to eat"? Since both of us are non professional chefs (one from Italy, where it is difficult to get bad food) the other Cordon Bleu trained, and cooking at home 6 days a week where our food comes literally from near by farms, when we want to be served a meal, we are very particular of what we are going to consume, concerning quality.
I also must add that we travel annually to the Mediterranean region, where the fruit of the sea is excellent and not expensive. Galveston, on the other hand, for being an Island, is no where close to the former. It offers primarily "touristy food" straight from the food industry supply truck. Last week and for the first time and after having talked about it to "death", visited the Saltwater Grill. The experience was unlike anything else in the area. "Real food" in an intimate but not stuffy environment, served by the most polite but friendly, professional server. That's you Caprina!! Any place we choose to eat, as we drive away, we ask ourselves the question: " would you eat there again?" if the answer is debatable, more than likely the final answer is No. If the answer without much discussion is, Yes, then it is obvious. We do not attempt by any means (husband and wife) to make ourselves some kind of "experts" in food. We simply know and understand good, nutritious food the body needs in order to be healthy. That's all. If you are visiting or staying in Galveston, we do recommend a visit to the Saltwater Grill. It is only our opinion, it is one of the best on the Island. Those can literally be counted on the fingers of ONE hand.
Thank You.

Because of good reviews, we visited Saltwater Grill while vacationing in Galveston. The only positive comments I can give this restaurant is that our waitress was polite and attentive, and the old building it is in created great ambience. I ordered the ribeye and my husband ordered the NY strip, both cooked to medium. When I asked what sides came with the steaks, I was shocked to find that the already overpriced costs for the steaks did not include any sides. What??? Who would eat just at a steak with no sides? So, we each added a side for an additional $6. When our meal arrived, we were both disappointed because both steaks were cooked to well done, with not even a hint of pink to be found. In addition, it appeared that no seasoning was applied to either steak during the cooking process. Even after adding salt, pepper and A-1 sauce, the steaks were not good. Maybe this restaurant does well with other types of food, but you might want to go elsewhere if you are looking for a good steak. For us, the meal was not worth the $95 it cost us, and we won't return. I would have given one star, but chose two to reflect that the waitress was not bad.

I work on weekends and sometimes it is really nice to go out for dinner and relax after work. I feel comfortable at Salt Water Grill alone, as well as with others. The staff is very professional and the food is excellent. The Texas Redfish with Lemon Caper Sauce is a favorite! It comes with fingerling potatoes and perfectly crisp-tender green beans. The dessert menu is varied and I am sure there is something to suit everyone's taste buds. My personal choice is Creme Brulee.

We stopped in on April 27th for dinner. We ordered an appetizer and the smaller bowl of gumbo. The serving was really large, so large, I could eat about 1/3 of my order. My husband ate around 1/2 of his gumbo. Our waiter offered to put the remaining gumbo in a take out. When we got home there was a small container equal to 1 cup of gumbo. What happened to the rest! Such BS, never again.

I never order shrimp because if it's grilled, it is usually overdone, if it is fried, it's dripping in grease. Tonight, I took a chance and ordered shrimp combo, fried, grilled and bbq bacon wrapped, each one was cooked and seasoned perfectly, I ate them all! There were 4 others with me and we all ordered something different, steak, fish, lobster, & crab, they loved their food, it was exceptional. I will keep coming here, I have never eaten anything I didn't love!

What an amazing meal we had to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We picked Saltwater Grill based on reviews and were not disappointed. My husband had a Redfish dinner that he said was the best he’d ever had (and he loves Redfish) and I had an amazing filet cooked to perfection. We shared a delicious creme brûlée for his birthday dessert. The atmosphere of the restaurant was a little on the noisy side, but the staff were attentive, professional, and friendly. We loved it and won’t hesitate to return on a future trip to Galveston.

Food was everything I'd hoped it would be, fresh, perfectly prepared and good value. All covid precautions were followed to the letter. The GM came by twice to ensure we were well taken care of address any questions. Great food, great customer service, great atmosphere. Make a reservation.

The food was delicious, and it is a nice location downtown right across from the Opera house. It is presented and priced as a high-end restaurant. The food does reflect that and it is worth going for. However, it is extremely noisy so not a romantic dinner spot. And the service is subpar for what they represent. The food and wine prices are high end and should have better service; for example, the host didn’t give us silverware when sitting us up, the waiter that took our drink and food order didn’t notice either, and even the person that brought the food didn’t. And they brought the bread some time after the main dish had been brought. I wouldn’t nitpick this, if it was a casual place priced accordingly, but the prices didn’t match the service and ambiance.

i will never understand the rude folks. it's spring break, you've got 3 kids under 12 with you... they're hungry and you want everything in 10 minutes or less.. go to whataburger. we listened to the table next to us complain about everything!! besides the masses of entitlement in the place, the food was amazing, the service was spot on. we got the clam chowder, recommended by our server, it was great! the ribeye and crab mac were bomb, and my husbands snapper special was delish. that cornbread! we will recommend and go back!! we just moved here, so we hope to become regulars. can't remember our servers name, but she had very short hair, she was so friendly..

My new favorite restaurant!
Fresh seafood chef styled.
Blackened Redfish Tostada & Coconut Shrimp are must orders!
Trendy setting with tablecloths, yet not stuffy formal...they’ll split plate serve menu items. Attentive staff.

We started with champagne and an ahi tuna tower. It was the best tuna we ever put in our mouth. Unusual flavor combinations in it kept you coming back for bite after bite. Perfect amount of spice. The ribeye melted in your mouth like butter. The sea bass was perfectly roasted and paired with creamy asparagus and couscous. Creme brûlée was filled with vanilla beans! An excellent meal. Kenneth was attentive and very sweet. He really tried to make our anniversary special. He truly did. It’s not an inexpensive dinner but one of the best you’ll have on Galveston island.
