After checking out a nearby place that was lively and had a good menu, we went to Der Lindenbaum. Somber atmosphere but had been rated higher so we stayed. I had called ahead and been told 'no Visa or MC' so took checkbook. Food was excellent. Atmosphere stayed somber, quiet. And I watched 2-3 people have to leave for a... More

We always stop at Chef Ingrid's Der Lindenbaum when we pass through Fredericksburg. In fact, we detour from I-10 just to go there. The cheese and potato soup was one of our first favorites. Today, I couldn't pass up the wiener schnitzel and I love the rotkohl. Reminds me of when I lived in Deutschland. They usually have interesting desserts,... More

The restaurant is near the National Museum of the Pacific War which takes a day to visit so Der Lindenbaum is a good choice for lunch. Service was good and food was served in a timely manner. The waitress was friendly and gave us information regarding the history of the area. Menu included the popular German choices. We enjoyed the... More

We were disappointed with the German food served as it was recommended by our hotel as authentic German. It was NOT authentic German food. We ordered the sauerbraten, as we had eaten sausages at lunch. The sauerbraten consisted of slices of overcooked roast beef with a sweet sauce, German potato salad that was served hot with a very thin sweet... More

Although a small menu, everything our group ordered was delicious. Kind of a B&B atmosphere--small and cozy. Be aware they don't take visa or MasterCard--only cash, Amex, discover and checks.

Very Authentic German food. The red cabbage and sausages were delicious and the Black Forest Cake was just what I'd hoped it would be. I lived in Austria for a year and this food brought back some great memories.

Had lunch here and shared two meals. Three sausage / potato salad is awesome. Schnitzel was very good, sauerkraut too. And the Greman Chocolate cake is really good. Be prepared for a wait at peak times but it's worth it.

German town, eat German food. Very good experience. Line at lunch cleared out by 1:15. We set at a table with two couples and made new friends quickly. Good service and good food. AS MOST restaurants in town dinning rooms are small but they can feed well.

We were in San Antonio for six days and were told to come to Fredericksburg for a German experience. We had lunch here and it was great. Reminded us of our trip to Germany. We recommend the town and this restaurant.

We went in for coffee and desert -- then regretted eating a meal earlier at a different restaurant. The coffee was exceptional and the deserts were as well. It is a small restaurant and the staff is very friendly (freundlich). It has a nice menu variety with traditional German dishes. We were very impressed and would go back any time.
