The food was just ok. Service was superb, but with a last name of Fritz, I have the following disappointments: * To me, German potato salad is not mashed potatoes w seasoning, it’s sliced potatoes in a hot sweet/sour sauce… oh there better be hunks...of bacon in it * The red cabbage could have been a hit, but it had not cooked down enough to be in my top 5 * The 3 sausages were ok… Polish was good, but available in any store, the brat was good & juicy, but the other one was dry & probably had been sitting there for too long * The schnitzel was nothing special, nor was the brown gravy. The mushrooms were the highlight. * the German chocolate cake was out of a supplier box - the icing was very close, but the cake portion was too processed, no Texture, too heavy… says my wife whose maiden name was Scharf. The service was superb, but the food was ok, we expected something better.More

Small but popular restaurant in the heart of Fredericksburg and it’s a great chance to have German cuisine in Texas Hill Country. There is no reservation, you need to put down your name and wait for an available table. We waited about twenty minutes on...a Wednesday afternoon. Service was friendly and attentive. Menu is small but with interesting items. Had the bean soup, the Hungarian goulash and rounded off with a slice of lemon food. Overall, the food was excellent and compared very favourably to the meals I had when I visited Germany in 2022. Recommended!More

We were in Fredericksburg for the 2024 total eclipse. Looking for a place to eat and stopped at a place a couple of doors down from the Lindenbaum, but left because it was so noisy you couldn't hear yourself think. Walked a few doors up...the street and found Der Lindenbaum which had seating available. A cute small restaurant on Main Street with a decent rating. The wait staff were very pleasant and very responsive. Ordered three schnitzel plates and one curry wurst plate. Food was delivered quickly and all of us enjoyed our meal. Two had wine and two had beer. The schnitzel eaters each took home a "to go box" and the curry wurst eater cleaned his plate! Enjoyed the meal and the ambience of a Main Street fronting restaurant.More

We stopped here for dinner and were not disappointed. We each ordered draft German beer which were quite good. I started with a small salad which was fresh and crisp. My husband had a small bowl of beef stew - it was very tasty but...could have had more beef and less noodles. We split the bratwurst dinner which was more than enough for each of us. The brats were good as were the sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. The gravy was sweet which surprised us. Overall a satisfying and delicious dinner.More

Terrible customers service. Apparently groups of 8 are frowned upon, the guy cleaning the table was rude and the ladies with glasses and blonde white hair really didn’t seem enthusiastic about serving us. If you are a party of 3 of less, come. Anymore than...3, go somewhere else, they don’t like it.More

For authentic German food in Fredericksburg, TX, this is the place. The owner and staff are from Germany and know what REAL German food is all about. Not fancy and not too pricy. Great experience.

The Lindenbaum was recommended to us 'around town' as the most authentic German restaurant in Fredericksburg. We were told that it's run by a German lady with German-speaking staff and that there is no 'bastardization' of the menu, which is traditionally German, by including the...likes of burgers, fries etc. And all of this is true. However, the meat in the goulash was impossibly tough and while the knackwurst platte was appetising - the two sausages in particular - I did not expect the potato salad to be sweet. The waitress also forgot one menu item that we ordered nor did she mention their specials of the day. Having said that, the red cabbage was the best I've ever had, but that's hardly enough to compensate for the shortfalls. Extremely disappointing for a town that prides itself on its German heritageMore

Ate here while staying in Fredericksburg and liked it. The food was good, portions were huge. We had the schnitzel and potato salad. The staff was friendly and helpful and service was good. There are a lot of German choices in Fredericksburg and this is...a good one.More

The Schnitzels and potatoe salad is the best I’ve ever had. Very authentic, it’s a must try if you’re in town and looking for foodie spots.

I always heard that this restaurant had the best authentic German food, so had to try it. The menu was somewhat limited, but I chose a dish I'd never ordered, and it was tasty. I also ordered a side order of German bread, which was...rather bland. The restaurant doled out the butter that went with the bread, so I had to keep requesting more butter. Part of my lunch partner's order was German potato salad, but it didn't taste at all like the German potato salad I've had in the past. This was sweet. Two big disappointments were the service and the tableware. It appeared that each table had their own waitperson, but the person serving my table was inattentive. I was surprised that the restaurant used plastic cups to serve our drinks, as the restaurant is held out to be rather elegant. This was a one time visit, sorry to say.More

Great authentic German cuisine... The menu is limited, but the are many options of Schnitzel... Great beer selection, in bottles and on tap. The friendly service made it a great meal and experience.
