We visited this Cafe while in the area. It has a local, good ole'boy atmosphere. A place where everyone knows you, if you live in town. The wait staff is polite and quick to find you an available table. This Cafe has a Drive-thru, for...To-Go orders, however it's not a Fast-food place. We were surprised how quickly our food came out. The hamburger was piping hot, fresh off the grill, and really good. The homemade onion rings were also very good. The good food keeps people coming back.More

Took an early morning motorcycle ride to one of our favorite breakfast joints. Off hwy 80 about an hour and 15 minutes east of Dallas, Tx. Great ride, great food and wonderful service! This is our 4th visit to the Lumber Yard! Love the breakfast...sandwich and coconut hand pie! Friendly, clean and cute atmosphere....Prices are very affordable....nice off the highway joint! Good ol'folks inside!More

The food is fabulous and the chicken fried steak is the best. Must try the fried squash. Cute cafe with excellent waitstaff!

We walked in and were seated as normal. We had called ahead to ask if they served beer, and the answer was no but you can Byob. When we arrived we asked for glasses, we were told that we had to move to the back...room (where we sat alone as other patrons looked on)I guess where we would be out of sight . The service was mediocre, and the food was so so. Nothing like having to eat alone in a restaurant. We are not picky people, but our treatment was so bad, we will never return and certainly do not recommend to others.More

We were traveling highway 80 and looking for a local dining option in the east Texas area. This place was a great choice. On Fridays and Saturdays they have fried catfish. We both ordered it and we were very happy with our choices. The fried...fish is served with hush puppies, cold slaw, French fries, and pickled green tomatoes. The service was friendly and efficient. The price was very reasonable. They have delicious looking fried pies and other desserts. We were too full to indulge, but maybe next time if we are in the area.More

This is a good hometown eating place. It is home cooked food. The tea is cold and the food is hot. Most food is fresh but some items are cooked from frozen. This place is busy on the weekend. Fish is great on Friday and...Saturday. It is locally owned and usually one of the owners is here. They have homemade pie and cake for deserts. They support local schools and community services. Parking can be tight on the weekend. Lots of young people here working with smiling faces. A little off the beaten path but worth the effort to visit.More

I drove over an hour to meet a friend for lunch here and was disappointed. While homemade, the mashed potatoes were served cold albeit quickly replaced when I let waitress know. The chicken fried steak was just okay. And it was very loud.

Nine of us stopped in for an impromptu dinner and were pleased that, even on a clearly busy Saturday night, there was enough room in the back party room to seat us. We shared fried mushrooms, fried pickles, and stuffed jalapeno peppers (yum!!!) before each...ordering something different. From a table of nine picky people, everyone enjoyed their food. The staff was the absolute nicest and, even though we laughed really loud and often, made us feel completely welcome. The place was clean, easy-to-find, and there is something for everyone on the menu.More

This used to be one of our go-to places to eat. At this point I don't care to go back unless I hear the food has improved. Tonight I had onion rings and the kids cheeseburger. The burger meat had almost no taste. Very little...or no seasoning. I had asked for well done. It was just done but definitely not well done. I had asked for extra crisp onion rings. They were lukewarm, not extra crisp and not freshly cooked. The waitress had written exactly what I'd asked for on the ticket, but it seems you get what you get, don't ask for anything special.More
