We live 190 miles away from this establishment, but we’re in the area for the day. I found this place on the internet and we decided to give it a try. We’ve eaten at multiple Mediterranean restaurants and so far this hit the top of the list. The husband and wife team said they have operated this establishment for 30 years and it tells by the taste of their food. We definitely plan on going there again. For our meal we had dolma, hummus and pita, lamb gyro, Cardamom tea, and tiramisu.

Glad to see that it’s moved from #80 to #50, but 50 is still way too low ... Fresh, hand made Middle East cuisine.

Every meal I’ve tried is delicious and the owners are so heartwarming and nice! On top of it all; the super-cozy atmosphere here makes you want to go back - (over and over again!)

It pains me to leave a poor review for a locally owned establishment and since we have been searching for a local middle eastern restaurant to save of from having to drive 40 minutes one way. SERVICE: Okay, not really friendly but better than fast food service - 3 star FOOD: Average compared to other Middle Eastern restaurants. - 3 star VALUE: Wow, so disappointed here. Why would a Middle Eastern restaurant be stingy with rice. If you cup your hand tightly like you are trying to hold water in it, that's how much rice you get. Its literally one of the cheapest ways you can show value to a customer. One kabob and a small handful of rice for $22 is not a good value especially if you are still hungry. Maybe it was an off day and they were running out of food - I don't know. Whenever I give less than 3 stars I try to go back but it will be a while. Dining Room: Comfortable and enjoyable.

Was really looking forward to trying this place, especially the Moussaka. I ordered the Vegetarian Moussaka and my husband ordered the original Moussaka. They came back and told us that they were out of both. So my husband ordered the shrimp dish and I decided to try the gyro. They came back and said they were also out of shrimp. So he decided to go with the gyro dinner (something they'd likely have). The gyro meat was ok. I've had better. The Zatar bread was very tasty! We went there for my birthday. I wanted a healthier meal but ended up eating meat and bread, so I was very disappointed I came here for my birthday. If I am in the area and want Moussaka, I'd probably call and make sure they have it first before going out of my way.

This restaurant use to be so good. Went today for lunch, Gyro! This is the opposite of what it used to be 3 years ago when my husband and I used to go. They are not using lamb, it tastes akin to sausage, the Taziki sauce was even awful. The pita bread " way too thick". Just awful ate maybe 4 bites and gave up! Such a shame it has gone down so far! Surprised it is still surviving!

Have been going to this little restaurant for years and am always impressed with the food and the service. The owners almost always come talk to us and ask how things are and the food has always been delicious. Highly recommended.

Don't hesitate to try this little gem! Small mom and pop restaurant in a strip mall..immaculate, charming, superb service and we haven't even talked about the food yet! Hummus was fresh and delicious with sumac sprinkled on top. Pita was warm and fluffy. Perfect! Ground beef kebabs were juicy, well seasoned and generous. Fresh peppers and onions were perfect compliment as well as the saffron rice! Scalappine Capricciose was so good that even though i was too full, i still finished the plate. I didn't want to waste (or share) a bite! If you want great mediterranean food then do yourself a favor and stop in!

The nicest folks run this place. Standard mediterranean menu, fresh and perfectly executed. No booze but you can bring your own. Quiet, intimate, slow, charming place.

I picked them because they had vegan options and other choices (because the rest of my party isn’t vegan). We went for lunch though they don’t have a lunch menu. All dinner portions or sandwiches, so I ended up having the falafel sandwich which I was told was vegan. There were a few other choices in the dinner entrees, but I was not wanting a large meal. The sandwich was very good and the falafel was done perfectly. It made me wish that we’d come for dinner instead and I will definitely do that next time. The restaurant is small and cozy. The atmosphere pleasant. Our first waitress wasn’t very helpful with the menu, but she only took our order and our 2nd waitress was very helpful and attentive. Also noted that the restroom is apparently behind an “employees only” door, and when asked they did allow a patron to use it.

The food here is fresh and delicious. We traveled to the Middle East last year and fell in love with the food. Never realized the Green Zara’s was here. The service is great. If you want wine, bring your own bottle!

Quaint family owned and operated Mediterranean food. The tenderloin kebab is tender and the kafta and chicken are flavorful as they are moist and tender. The staff cares about the food and service. The dolma were served hot with a delicious tomato sauce, a yummy appetizer. On one wall is a remnant of their start as a Mediterranean grocery with a growing food service that took over. You can find unique importer specialty items: Rose Jam, fig ham with sesame seeds, teas, coffee, cookies, lentils, beans and olive oil.

Very good food, even my son asks to go here. They can be a little skimpy on the rice though, even when ask for extra rice instead of salad. I now just order a side of rice.

I recently was asked to say what my "last meal" would be, and I found myself saying I would want the Veggie Moussaka at Denton's Green Zatar. This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere--they make everyone feel like Norm from Cheers--they greet you when you walk in like you are family and they treat you like that until you are comforted and nourished by their delicious food and ready to walk out their door. We are lucky to have such a wonderful family-owned restaurant in our little town. If I could I would go there several times every week.

Green Zatar is excellent every time we do take-out, cater for large groups, or eat-in. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Denton, and is indicative of Denton's restaurant scene. They have the best hummus I have ever had, and I love the saffron rice, falafel, side salads, chicken dishes, and my husband loves the gyros. I highly, highly recommend it. I have also catered many times for large work functions, and again, it is top-notch. Service is great as well. We had takeout yesterday, and once again, it was great.
