Before coming to Dallas for business I did a search for the best places to eat during my short 3 day visit. I came across Ellen's and added it to my list. After getting of the plane we headed straight here for Sunday brunch. Am I glad we did! There was a bit of a wait but expected it, not... More

We stumbled onto this place; aren't we glad! I had the chicken fried chicken and my hubby had the baked meatloaf. We went for the four most popular sides: mac n cheese, green beans with bacon, mashed sweet potatoes, and mashed potatoes. Made these choices after our very fun waiter provided options! Everything was delicious. My hubby wished the green... More

I really wanted to love this place because it got such stellar reviews, but our family thought it was definitely overrated. Two of us got fried chicken and it was thickly coated with a heavy pasty batter. Not our favorite type of yardbird. The chicken was moist, but not anything extra special. Certainly not worth $16. My son got fried... More

So three of us who are all celebrating our 60th birthdays this month (plus one token 30-something) went downtown for a concert and dinner. Someone polished on Facebook about the top 15 places in Texas to get a CFS (That's chicken fried steak for you non-Texans!), And Ellen's was one of them. So we decided to give it a try!... More

After a long walk from Federal Plaza downtown to the Reunion Tower I found my way passed Dealy Plaza to Market West. This area is great with a bunch of restaurant and bar options. I saw that Ellen's received some great rating and decided to give it a try. From 4-7 PM (I believe), during the week they have happy... More

Ellen's is a cool place in the old part of downtown Dallas. When we arrived we noticed it was very different from the old location. The old space was very southern but the new place looks much like any restaurant anywhere. That said it's good they moved as they were always so crowded with a long wait. But again I... More

Driving around looking for parking to go to the bakery around the corner I found a spot right in front of Ellens ... Since it was right there we went in and I am really glad we did. The Food is amazing .... Try the French toast. Coffee is locally roasted and soooooo good. The staff were friendly and fast.... More

It's hard to find southern style chicken and dumplings like my grandmother used to make. But Ellen's has done it!

Their website and Trip Advisor are wrong. I was curtly told they were closed at 8:50 pm. All lights on, TV going. I'm dressed in business attire.

The service was slow and the food was definitely not a "southern" portion. I ordered their special, Chicken Pot Pie and it had no chicken! The flavour was good but it was mainly potatoes, carrots, peas and a small size biscuit, definitely not what I expected. My husband ordered their cat fish and it was 2 small size (like chicken...
